  It's not RAID-5, it just supports RAID-5.
  
  RAID-5 on this would give you 1.5TB of raw, unformatted space (3x 500GB data + 1x 500GB parity drive). This looks to just have the four drives set up in a RAID-0 stripe set.

The idea of a NAS sounds great, but unfortunately I don't have the spare dosh for this one. Ideally I'd build a server running a base nix install, which would allow future HDD upgrades. But I don't have the cash for that one either. *sigh

As a storage device it is a great budget option but transfer rates are sh!t and hopeless for streaming. The HDDS alone would be valued at $400 anyway. Just a thought.
