This game is available in regions outside AU, I checked Epic's New Zealand store.
If you already have Epic accounts in other regions beside NZ, try those first using a VPN.
For a game worth AU$ 50.95 on Steam and not much effort required to claim, thought people might be interested.

Dumb question but once I get it with my new, VPN's kiwi account, when I want to play it in future, will I always have to use that kiwi acc or can I merge it into my Aussie acc somehow?
Can't merge it, you'd have to switch accounts to play it unless the game lets you run it from the install folder directly outside of epic games launcher.

Yeah I have a Non AU account but was geo-blocked. VPN'd outside of Australia and it works. So there's definitely a dual layer check. Non AU account and IP location check.

If it doesn't work on your Mac you can buy Parallels and install windows inside that to run the game.

This sounds like a bit of work. I know what is easier, mateys.
It's certainly less work than sailing the seven seas, but much more work than clicking the GET button with your normal account.
Don't need to make second account or login to it every time you want to play with the seven seas.

Thanks. I managed to redeem the game via this link without creating a new epic account. I did have to connect to NZ VPN with Windscribe, didn’t work initially without using VPN.

Didn't have to create a new account. Just VPN'd and used existing Epic account to get the game that I'll never play.

Even easier not to bother with the game. I have plenty of others in my back catalog. No way I can play them all before I die.

I used New Zealand. I actually have an existing NZ account from when the last Epic game was geo-blocked. Used that in conjunction with a VPN allowed me to claim this game but to be honest, it will probably sit un-played in my ever growing pile of shame.
Hey folks, wasn't sure if it warrants a fresh post or not, but the region lock restriction has been removed by the publisher so this is now available in Australia and Brazil (so bizarre that it was blocked in two countries with F1 races and a huge fanbase).
Snip for proof and link to EGS data source - I successfully redeemed it on my 2nd (local) account without VPN just now!

In conclusion, it is blocked in Australia, Brazil, Russia, South Korea, and you need a second Epic account from a different country AND a VPN to avoid the Australian IP geoblocking.
