HODL for 9070 XT, yes it will be more expensive (around $300-$450) but the performance gains will be well worth it on a FPS per dollar basis

    • 100%

    • +8

If the 5070 Ti is priced at $1509, then the 9070 XT should be $1399 or 1439. The price difference is more than just $300–$450.

      • +1

Granted, before the 5000 series launch, a 9070 XT was listed for around $512 USD (Philippine major retailer store) - and I am confident that the card would be priced in the upper $500 USD bracket. Granted yes its still around a $500-$600 increase but still worth it on an FPS per dollar basis.

        • What’s your basis on the performance? If it’s AMD’s slides, then just know that they have lied by a huge margin on their performance claims before. Just like the 3 RGB stooges.

I dont think the FPS gain would be 70-80% like the pricing shows.

          • @jpeg-jpg: There are leaks of AMD internal optimization benchmarking from couple months ago. And apparently they have squeezed a few more single digit perf from it with with driver optimizations since then. In some games they got close to 4080.

        • +2

Double the price is a completely different market segment.

    • +3

Don't expect too much. AMD Radeons never launch at a good price. See what happened on 6900XT, 7900XTX, etc.

    • HODL for 9070 XT

    • +2

If the 9070xt is priced between the 5070 and 5070ti it could be approx $1500. $1500 being the 5070ti aus price for ref cards, more for partner models.

If you have money to burn wait for a 5070/9070xt and hope they have stock otherwise grab a bargain 7800xt/4070 super now.

  • +12

still cracks me up that the 7800xt performs slightly worse than a 6800xt. please think about what you're paying for and when you're paying for it, relative to other market movements.

    • +9

That's an article from a year and a half ago, pretty sure with the extra optimizations since then and more games relying on raytracing it should be a bit ahead now.

      • +1

That's possible, but i seriously doubt it's substantial in the grand scheme of things. If it was, there'd be way more talk about it, and at least one "AGeD LIKE fINE wiNe???" re-review. You could've paid roughly this amount for roughly this performance since ~3 years ago, and we're 1 month away from next gen.

    • +4

Lol no it doesn't, it's around 5% faster on average, and it only looks mediorce due AMD's naming scheme, realistically the RX 7800XT is really a 7800.

      • +1

Yep 7800XT is better than 6800XT not only in performance but also power efficiency and bonus AV1 encoding.

Sure, it's hardly leaps and bounds better, but there's rarely been a chance to grab a new 6800XT at a price point where it would make more sense to buy over the 7800XT. (ie. min $50+ cheaper).

  • +3

yeah keep in mind this card trades blows with the Radeon 6800XT, so don't side-grade.

  • +3

I’m happy I ended up getting a used 6950 XT for $650 a month ago, these new releases and prices have left me whelmed.

    • +1

That is a great price for one of those. I just picked up a 6800 XT for $550

      • +2

Is that second hand? What measures do you take to ensure its working as expected?

        • +1

Yes and extensive unigen superposition testing

          • @stephendt: Wow thank you. Saved me a lot of research. So you just install this on their PC to test the GPU before purchasing? What if the GPU is not plugged in?

      • geez used ones have held their price well, i've had one for 18 months and i got only a tiny bit more that $550 ..

    • I get what you're going for but that's not what that word means.

With games coming out this year that require RT to run, this generation of card is not very future proof.

    • +1

Hey mate, just dropping 2c on my way past. This card does have Ray Tracing and it'll be fine to play most latest AAA games in at least the high-medium settings

    • RT perf compared to some other gpu's that were around at the time by HUB.
      https://youtu.be/x4TW8fHVcxw?si=mmnH_M9Wn8OIujmf&t=1009

    • Require?
      Surely not.

    • I'd assume that game companies would recognize that GPUs won't become cheap anytime soon now that they're also useful for running AI models so they don't ramp up graphics requirements much. Unless they want to be left with a really small addressable market.

  • Currently have a 2070 super and a 3600 and dont really want to upgrade to a new pc just yet. Would this be worth it to upgrade? Or should i wait for a good price on a 4070 or something for that DLSS

    • +1

here HUB has a graph showing 1440p performance and has the 2070 in the graph for comparison. It's 52 FPS vs 108 FPS
      https://youtu.be/x4TW8fHVcxw?si=EGethEkqvxGivm1o&t=653

The 2070 super vs 2070 is about 10% faster, so maybe more like 57 FPS vs 108, either way, you get the message, not far off twice the raw frames. If wanting 4k and/or RT with the new GPU then perhaps Nvidia, if 1080p or 1440p and want best value per frame, this would be a good buy IMO. But of course, there is the new 5070 and 9070's coming out which may make this recommendation look foolish. :-)

    • Which CPU do you have?

      • I'd presume that "3600" here is a Ryzen 5 3600?

  • +7

As far as raw frames this achieves the best $ per frame value in the range of med to high end GPU's (4070 and above) currently on the market, followed by the 7900XT posted a few days back. The big question is whether the 9070 GPUs and the 5070's will disrupt this in any way.

Here is the graph showing the $ per frame as a comparison to other based on current in stock prices from what I could find.
