Great price for a very good vacuum. Paid $50 more at Appliancesonline a couple of months back (free delivery though). Works a treat and recommended by Choice.

    • We have a S5211 also and recommend it 100%.

  • Any receipt or photos? Thanks

This is the one I have, I almost destroyed it yesterday by using it without a bag, came back to life an hour later.

I rate it highly, bags arent even that expensive, $5 each in a box of 4, so much more effective than a lot of the bagless shit around the same price.

    • I've only ever had bag-less vacuum cleaners, so this may be a stupid question, but does this mean it costs you $5 every time you want to empty the vacuum cleaner?

      • Yeah but it takes ages to fill, a lot of bagless you still need to by filters and such, the filters for this come with the bags. It really is a very nicely built product.

        • so everytime you empty you throw away the bag?? i dont get it

        • Yes, that's right. A pack of 4 bags is $20 which has the filters included. You would probably have to pay as much to replace the filters on so called bagless (obviously not always the case). I think this is a very decent vacuum.

  • receipt please!!!thanks

    • Thanks :)

    • Before showing your receipt the best price i got was $287 @ TGG. He matched your price but wasn't real happy…So thank you.

  • Not sure whether to bite the bullet on this one and purchase. Im in the market for a vacuum cleaner but only live in a small unit (mix of tile and carpet), and was thinking of getting one for ~100 bucks. Decisions..

    • do you want to buy my one??then I am getting this one…:)

the aldi vacuum cleaner is apparently very decent

These things are built to last & powerful Narz and would work out cheaper over time. I have had el-cheapos in the past that were virtually useless or died after a year or so.

  • Do these things last? I live in a unit at the moment but will download an update to a house in 5-7 years.

5-7 years? You must be on dialup :)

  • Miele have so many different models.. so confusing and hard to tell which is higher in the rank.

  • Great reviews for this one! Went to GG couple of weeks ago to get one but ended up buying the higher model (Cat and Dog) for $350.

i bought this VC for $255 from harvey norman gordon nsw on feb 2012. at that time GC cannot even sell to me $265. the rrp is BS.

  • My vacuum has just fallen to bits, Not knowing much about the various makes and models, would a Dyson be a better choice?, i know the dyson is a little more expensive, any advice would be appreciated .

    • +1

I have only used a dyson, never a Miele so I can't compare. But my DC37 sucks things up real good. When I went back to my old one, it felt like a piece of junk that didn't suck anything up at all. Trying to clean dust off my fan filter, I had to move it back and forth 10 times and still couldn't clean it all up. The dyson sucked it all in one pass, and even permanently deformed the filter because it tried to suck the filter in with it.

I also had a bed cover that was coated in about 10 years of dust, and in one pass with the dyson, the section I passed over looked brand new.

But yeah, the dyson are expensive. And if the Miele do as good a job, it would be more cost efficient to get the Miele. dyson are like Apple almost. They charge a premium for the brand alone. But unlike Apple, they do allow their products to go on special ($10 off on iPad Black Friday sale ROFL).

      • Lostn, Thanks for the info.

    • You can search on Google for the reviews. S5211 review >>> Dyson review

  • I have one of these - heaps better than the $600 bagless it replaced. And you don't have to buy the genuine Miele bags - the clone ones off ebay work just as well for a fraction of the price.
The problem I found with the bagless is that for it to work properly you need to replace the filter regularly, which ends up costing as much as the bags for some types.

    • With my dyson bagless I only have to wash it in cold water. I don't have to replace the filter.

  • It's a strong word to say this is better than other ~$600 bagless on the market, but I think anyone who own both this and the expensive bagless will know for sure this vacuum is better.

it's an honest, no gimmick, classic, high quality vacuum that just works. been abusing this vacuum since 2009, hasn't miss a beat, bag is a bit expensive but it works.

if you can live with pulling a cable using this vacuum, you don't need any other vacuum. the accessories attachment pick up pet hair just fine from couches or hard to reach corner, and it works perfectly fine on both hard floor and medium pile carpet.

449rrp is a bit overrated, it has been on 350 mark from HN, but at 249, it's definitely a good deal.

  • Was going to buy one but I just fixed my old Vacuum ~ dam….

  • bag or bagless that is the question

    • I use an attachment on my vacuum cleaner (purchased separately for ~$50) which collects all the dust into a long clear tube which allows for easy disposal so I never have to empty the bag unless I detach the lower hose for misc use

      • is the attachment meant for this model by same company?

        • Nope, think 3rd party product - it'll attach to any standard vacuum cleaner. Can't remember the name of it though, might have to take a photo of it

        • I'm interested to take a look at this product, do you have any recollection of the name?

  • Woah, 10m cord length! So much better than my current 3m (seriously, 3m?! I don't live in a japanese unit!)

  • Was this marked as $249 instore or you had to haggle it down?

    • I called up yesterday morning (TGG Rockdale) to check for stock availability and current price. I was told there were still 11 units available and the price was $249 (without haggling).

So I went in and bought one for my parents.

Please note, however, the guy who served me wasn't willing to drop the price any further (regardless of whether I use cash payment or otherwise)

  • Just called up Good Guys Nunawading and was told it's on sale for $279?

    • Update

Called TGG DFO Essendon (VIC) was told that if I bring a copy of the receipt they can price match, but when I turned up, I was told by the staff that the manager could not allow them to honor the price match and they cannot sell at 249 as it's below their cost, the costing in NSW is totally different from VIC.

Also went to Harvey Norman to check if they can price match, was pretty much told the same thing :(

  • I went to Good Guys (Warners Bay NSW), the vacuum was listed as $349 but the guy said he'd do it for $298. I said other shops have been doing it for $249 and showed him arigold's receipt. He said that they've been having problems with people posting false receipts online??! Anyone ever heard of this?? Wouldn't budge on the price even after 'talking' with his boss.

So we went to Harvey Norman (Bennett's Green NSW) where they had it marked around the 350 mark. I once again mentioned people getting it for 249 at GGs and no problem - they price matched :)

This isn't the first time Good Guys have been stubborn. As much as I dislike Harvey Norman, they've come through for me on my last few big purchases!

    • Just called TGG Alexandria, NSW and was told they didnt have this model in stock. The person I spoke to on the phone even said that none of TGG stores would have this in stock.

  • Hi Folks

Just went into JB and got this unit. Priced at 298 with 10% discount on appliances at moment. The friendly fellow knocked it down to 240 for me. Also gave me a discount on bags. Wouldn't recommend going into GG until you have checked out what JB can do (if you JB carries appliances - which big top mt gravatt in brisbane does).

    • I've never seen a JB that carries appliances.. been to many in Victoria. This must be some kind of megastore. They sell movies/CDs too?

      • Yep - A regular JB with CDS, movies, car audio and games etc, but also happens to have an appliance section. May be a test store for possibly expanding into that in more stores.

        • All the JBs I've seen aren't big enough to expand to include appliances. What's taking most of the show floor space is the movies and games.

  • Thanks for the post. What a shame that it's in NSW but I'm in VIC.

I called Appliances Online and mentioned that PowerBuys is selling it for $255.
    See this one-year-old post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60911
Well, I actually don't know how much exactly PowerBuys is selling it at now since their website is "currently under renovation" and they recommended Appliances Online so I guess there are some connections.

Luckily Appliances Online price matched the vacuum for me, as well as the 4 pack bags.

    Hope it helps.

  • FYI, purchase the Miele S5211 from The Good Guys in Thomastown for $240 on the 2-Jan-2013. They also sold me the 4 pack of Miele bags which includes 2 filters for $15.

Used it the on the first day and is by far the best vacuum cleaner we have ever owned. Awesome suction and quality.

    • can you post up the receipt? thanks
