Record Player Recommendations

I'm new to vinyl and am looking around for my first record player

Are there any good models that can get a recommend?

In true OzBargainer spirit, the more regular it goes on sale, the better :)

Edit: Budget = have money, know nothing, want something I don't care if it breaks or is easily fixed (^new to vinyl). Appreciate the people offering help!

try and buy a decent 2nd hand system, Marantz is nice, check garage sales and opshops

Audio Technica LP60X check garage sales, op shops, GT, CC, and fleabay. I scored mine from CC for $30 in pristine condition. Btw, vinyl is an expensive hobby.

    • This is my recommendation as well. Including the last bit - took all my money (no regrets though).

    • The 60 isn't great, you will outgrow it pretty quickly. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one if it's in pristine condition.
If you can stretch to get a $200 you should be able to pick up a nice used player off marketplace. Check it has "line" output if you are going directly into powered speakers.

Budget? Pro-ject e1 is a great record player if your budget can stretch to that

Any reviews on the aldi and other low cost systems which come around from time to time?

Please don’t buy these. They will sound bad, some might even damage your records.

We purchased one for a young girl. Only records are Taylor Swift, so I how you're right.

  • I got a good one off hard rubbish.

Go either rega or project if you care about sound quality. Start low and you can upgrade as needed.

"looking around for my first record player"
    Why? What is the attraction?

Enjoying music? What are your hobbies so we can question those?

  • Better a turntable & component/s.

The obvious question is … why?

They were terrible when they first came out, but that is all that there was at the time.

They are still terrible now and obscenely expensive to boot. And they degrade every time you look at them.

If you want physical media get CDs. If you want large expensive shelf art get the earbook editions.

      Yeah nah

So many bizarre things happening - Musk, Trump, Bitcoin, vinyl records.

There’s an enjoyment to being involved in the music listening experience. Picking an album, putting it on the platter, moving the tonearm over, dropping the needle. It’s tactile, analogue and intentional.

Today people just hit shuffle on their streaming service and be done with it, and that’s fine, I do it most of the time. But, sometimes I just want to sit down and interact with my music. Physical media is nice, and people are actually gravitating back to it.

Yeah, CDs are way more practical, but some prefer analogue.

Gimme some of that sweet sweet vinyl record surface noise. Oh, how I miss it.

        • Part of the emotion behind it. Like how people enjoy classic cars which rattle and smell like petrol fumes constantly, or watch enthusiasts spending thousands on an analogue timepiece when a digital Casio is cheaper and more accurate.

It’s okay that it’s not for you, but don’t “yuck” other people’s “yum”.

  • Budget would help. Project e1, Technics. Get one that has a returning arm preferably.

  • Connecting to what? Phono stage and amp? Bluetooth? Budget?
