  • Anyone tried this before? Is it easy to drink or need to drink with water?

They go down pretty easy but the flavours are super artificial and almost made me chunder when I tried them.

    • I’ve had another flavour and it was very sweet. Consistency feels strange also. Don’t need to drink with water.

These are the worst gels I've tried.
The sport in science ones are a lot better IMO. You can get 7 for $20 at 99bikes which is pretty reasonable (obviously not as good value as this deal but the taste is worth the extra cost)

  • I usually pay $2-$3/gel for SiS Gels but running was getting expensive, so now I've been supplementing gels with konjac jellies and small trolli lollie packs on my 2h+ runs. Even though taste bad, I'll be able to stomach them at 66c/ea :)

Winners energy gels are really sweet and very sticky. I didn't like them - unfortunately I bought a whole heap of them on sale and have to put up with them for a while yet… Lesson learnt!

The worst thing though is that the packaging has really sharp edges that cut your lips. The only way I can consume a gel is by tearing off the top completely, and then folding it in half lengthwise so that it's not as wide.

Sport in Science (SiS) energy gels have much better flavour and the packaging is nowhere near as dangerous…

Yes they are sweet and sticky. They're like a syrup. But they're cheap and do the job during training. Otherwise it can get expensive. I take a ziplock bag to put the rubbish in so I don't get the sticky residue everywhere.

Otherwise the gold standard is Maurten. They're more like a jelly you can suck down in 1 or 2 goes quickly. You can buy them individually at 99 Bikes with a price beat from Pushy's for the cheapest price I've found.

    • Yeah I don't mind these, they seem to sit well in stomach, don't need water and cheaper than most others. They also have 45g of carbs which is double the amount of SIS gels which is quite important if you are more in the camp of needing 90-100g an hour during a mara. Ziplock bag is a good idea had my shorts stick to my leg after a race because I had just been putting the empty gelsl in my pocket but clearly wasn't quite empty enough. If money was no object then yeah I'd use Maurten

Also stack the 99bikes price beat with an Ultimate Gift Card so another 8-10% off on top.

  • I don't mind these. It is liquid enough to take without water. Others say it's very sweet….errr..isn't that the point? Are you after energy, protein or caffeine? If it's energy -yes. If you are after protein or caffeine, then no.

Does it's job and doesn't give me issues in the loo after so it's pretty good.
