[NSW] Places to Buy Tyres

Hi all, I want to buy 5x Toyo Open Country R/T 195/80R15, you can see some stores online but idk how things works within the car world like buying the tyres online and taking to somewhere to get them installed paying the labour of course, etc.

I would prefer to go to place X where they don't try to f you up and get everything sorted out in-store like I do with my motorcycle without paying twice as much for no reason. These 5x tyres will be around $1500 or something so each cent counts lol

Thank you for any help.

Typically, the process involves selecting your tyres, choosing a location, making a deposit or full payment, and having the tyres shipped to the store. The store then contacts you to schedule the fitting.

I went through this process during Black Friday with Bob Jane, and it was a smooth experience. My local store called me within 15 minutes of placing the order. Although I had to switch to a similar set of tyres due to a supply issue, I still got them at the same price, and they were fitted a week later.

I already got the tyre model, I just needed a non-f you place to get them installed.
It looks like I just found the place thanks to another comment.

      Thank you very much

        non-f you place doesnt exist

These tyre shops want to make money

I think your expectations might be unreasonable.

    • Curious how much percent saving you got? I only getvlike 25% off

  • Sounds like someone bought a Jimny.

      lol
The stock are fine but some unpaved road trips I am looking are very long and can get fun with rain so why I wanna put something more suitable, but again, that is why I used "I want…" and not "I need…" at the start of the post.

      • You don’t need to explain it to me, I stick mud tyres on my 4x4s as soon as I can.
        Enjoy the Jimny.

      Tempe? Easy access.
      Thank you very much :)

I’d go Tempe as well, they’re easiest to deal with because you don’t get some bro telling you to get something different (for the most part). Which is what you’re after?

No Bob Jane, I want the Michelin PS4’si asked for and not Continentals that you are trying to tell me to get

Tempe are great. Expect to wait a long time or drop your car off and leave it.

NB: they don't have your size on their website. Give them a call. They'll have to order some for you.

Get your alignment done at JAX Marrickville. Better still, get them to quote the tyres as well.

        • EDIT: No alignment is required.

      • Ask for quote from Tempe Tyre and then call JAX tyres if they can match or price beat.

I bought 5x Falken Wildpeakes recently and my local JAX tyres franchise beat Tempe quote by $50. Also saved me 40 min round trip.

I got my last set of tyres from Tempe too, first shop I've been to that didn't use a rattle gun to tighten the shit out of my wheel nuts.

    • I agree with Tempe tyres
But u can also get your local bob Jane tmart or similar to price match. They usually give you a booklet with things like free tyre puncture repair voucher if you've bought tyres from them

  • Its not hard. Find a local supplier or three. Ask for a price. Pick one. Get it done.

Don't get up sold a wheel alignment, please.

  • Holy smokes, I am glad I asked what appear to be a silly question to some.

I thought that wheel alignment is part of the package when getting the tyres installed at X place like my 700c motorcycle, I don't have to take it to another place to get it all aligned.
But based on some comments, some stores appear to f you up hmmmm

    • +2

Balancing is part the package. Alignment is extra but you won’t need that if it’s a new Jimny.

      • Gotcha, I just got it last Friday, no need for anything special at this stage.
        Thank you

If you're planning on taking your old tyres back, make sure you mention it when asking for a quote. If you do that quote will be fairly cheaper as they don't have to add tyre recycling fee.

You will be able to easily offload these on FB marketplace.

          • @dealhunter52: I will definitely take the old brand new tyres back.
Stores would never pay what they are worth, it is easier to sell things in private later.

If you’re not experienced at 4x4ing consider checking out a Suzuki 4x4 club. Jimnys are super capable, but they’re a bit more of a technical drive than big 4x4s and learning how to pick the right lines really helps get the most out of them.

          • @mapax: Some did mentioned that they used their stock before doing upgrade and it handled pretty well.
I will have to cross this subject in one way or another, thanks to you all now I know where to go.

      • Alignment is extra but you won’t need that if it’s a new Jimny.

Alignment in most cars ex-factory is usually rubbish. It isn't checked as part of the PD.

@ratoloko Pay the $90. Get it checked.

If you haven’t read it, have a read of the series of replies on wheel alignments that were recently posted, esp. if you’re in Sydney:

      • Holy sh1t!!!

When I have to pay for services on my motorcycle, I only take it to one place across the globe because they are known to be honest. I don't take it nowhere else. I had to replace both disks and brake pads easily past $1500, they got good quality, one local brand and one from UK for 800 instead.

As for the car, I do have things I wanna get installed, I must watch the service. I read the ARB reviews and they are just one f up after another.
I have trust issue in general, I would never trust not seeing the service being done. If I have no other option, I mark all the screws that must be removed.
I already downloaded Jimny Service Manual so it is not hard to know what must be removed to access what.
The screws will never be put exactly the same way. If everything looks the same, you got got scammed.

        Thank you for sharing that.

        • The screws will never be put exactly the same way.

Incorrect. A a single helix screw tightened to the same torque will always end up in the same place.

        • Sounds like you should just do the servicing yourself.

What alignment is done on a motorcycle? Isn't the front wheel on a fixed plane axle and the rear on cam adjusters that just have to be equal?

      Do you mean wheel balance?

        I've come to two conclusions:

        1. OP has a motorbike
        2. OP has no idea
  • Tyroola 100%

  • Good opportunity to change to a 215/70R15 if you want something a little wider that will fit on the same wheels

    • +1

That will make the OPs head explode

    • Nah, too big at the cost of fuel and weight.
I'm yet to find out how far a tank is gonna take me, it's full now and says 430km range IIRC

  • 5 star tyres five dock.
