This is probably one of the best face washes/ cleansers available in mass market. While the price may seem higher compared to other options, it’s important to note that it's a 562ml bottle which will go for a long time. Additionally, you only need a small amount to create a rich lather.

  • anyone recommend this as part of a minimalist skincare regime? i'm looking to start one

      minimalist skincare regime

That sounds fancy so I won't comment, but for a face wash during and outside of shower, this is perfect.

Initially it looked expensive but as per description in the post, if you add up, it comes out to be the same or cheaper compared to those tiny 50ml and 75ml tubes of face cleansers from various brands. I am not a regular CeraVe products user or anything.. just found this good.

by minimalist i just want to keep it as simple/easy/affordable as possible. I'm a man and currently don't do a thing but noticing my face aging at 31yo :(

        • +1

it would be part of a broader package of treatment. My understanding is that the sun is far more ageing and reducing exposure would have more impact, so wearing SPF every day or a moisturiser with it will help.

Sunscreen every day. Probably the biggest cause of wrinkles. I use Anthelios XL but other people are happy with bulk buy stuff from the Cancer Council.
Arguably more important is probably managing hydration and stress. Although stress is something I've been unable to avoid unfortunately..

Here’s my one and may work for you if you want something easy. This has been my routine since high school and let’s say I’m old now lol.

          • Gentle cleanser like dermaveen, cetaphil or qv. These are more budget friendly. Cerave is good but costs more.
          • Micellar water like garnier cleansing micellar water to tone your skin and extra cleansing.
          • Moisturiser with at least spf30 like Olay Complete defence daily. SPF50 or extra sunscreen if lifestyle includes being out in the sun a lot. I like to keep it simple so I just get a gentle moisturiser with broad spectrum uv protection in it. It’s nongreasy so I use it at night too. I add a layer of sunscreen if I’m gonna be out. And don’t forget your lips, SPF50 lip balm if you’re going out. I get mine at Aldi. Super cheap.

Do this every morning and night in that order. Done. Also, plenty of water.

You can get most of these from Chemist warehouse and Amazon. It’s easy and won’t break the bank. I stock up whenever they go on sale.

    • I personally don't notice a different between this and any other one like the ones i get for $5 for a litre.
I use any facial wash that's on special and cheap and then moisturiser.

      Just two things

I've included this product in my forum topic about a basic skincare regime

    • I've switched over to the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (1L bottle from Chemist Warehouse) after using the Japanese range of Bioré Mens face wash for years. It feels much gentler whilst still ensuring a good clean. I imagine this cream to foam cleanser will be the same.

      Then I just use:

      1. Muji light toning water - High moisture (https://muji.com.au/collections/facial-toners/products/light…)

      Followed by:

      1. Muji moisturising milk - High moisture (https://muji.com.au/products/moisturising-milk-high-moisture…)

I used to think skincare was a waste of time, but then I got some weird dermatitis around my lips and nothing helped. Steroid creams helped temporarily, but I could feel it thinning out the skin and then after a day or so it came back. Since I started on the gentler cleanser and the Muji skincare products, the dermatitis has gone completely and my face feels good..

Just got a 1L non foaming version of this for $35 if it helps others

    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/91323/cerave-hydrati…

    • Noting that this isn't a foaming variant. If they're similar to handwash, it's not apples to apples. 500 mL foaming will last longer than 500 mL of normal.

Can't comment on this vs 1L though.

  • Bought two bottles and get another 11% off - paid $45.62 for 2 bottles.

  • How is the price hike on this worth it compared to the non foaming one? Foaming only needed for cleaning. This is for hydrating.

    • This is one of the more expensive Cerave cleansers designed for the face. It is a milky emulsion that turns into foam once massaged with water. It's kind of a hybrid that combines the hydrating cleanser and foaming cleanser, with the added bonus of removing sunscreen and make-up (except stubborn waterproof) in one step.

      (from my previous description)

      • Fair. I just use the hydrating cleanser then foaming one.

      • Actually I should clarify that if you don't wear make-up or water-resistant sunscreen, and only wear daily (not water-resistant) face sunscreens, you'll be fine using one of the cheaper Cerave cleansers.

This stuff really dries out my face, whereas their blemish control cleanser does not. Any ideas why?

    • Isn’t the blemish control one for oily skin ?

      • It's marketed for "blemish-prone skin", which is what I have. My skin's also relatively oily I guess - but yeah the linked one really dries it out to the point of discomfort.

    • +1

The foaming quality dries skin out. You generally don’t want foaming if you have dry skin.

      • I'd say my skin is relatively oil and quite blemished. This stuff dries out my skin to the point of discomfort, even though I use their blue moisturizer immediately after. Any tips?

    • That's very surprising as this product is meant for normal to dry skin, and you reckon you have oily skin. Where did you buy yours? (There are Cerave fakes around on marketplace platforms).

    I'll just leave this here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVrUDqYfRUM

    • Uh oh fun police issuing negs… sigh

    • Yeah nah thanks. Yuck!
      Sorry meant to +

  • It works okay from my experience (oily/acne-prone skin). It did not strip the skin barrier, but it feels like it didn't cleanse that much. Didn't contribute to pimples but also did not help in reducing them, so it should be okay if you have normal/less oily skin, though I wouldn't recommend it for acne-prone/oily skin.

ive used the moisturizing cream the past 2 years. It has that hyaluronic acid stuff in it and a few other things that are meant to be good.

It's also oil-free which is why i got it. I hate looking shiny.

Anyway…haven't noticed anything different over normal moisturizing cream…and after you apply it you still look shiny despite it being oil-free.

I think they are overpriced these things.

  • Definitely recommend their blemish control cleanser over this one. Doesn’t dry out your face and better controls pore size and sebaceous filaments. I use it morning and night in the shower. I pair it with a few drops of 100% Jojoba Oil as a moisturiser afterwards. Give it a go and your face will be glowing!

If you’re going to be in the sun a fair bit, definitely use a Moisturiser with SPF. If looking for natural, sensitive skin SPF moisturiser, have a look at the MooGoo Tinted SPF Moisturiser. As a guy don’t be a afraid of the stigma associated with using this, only need a small amount and rub it in until it’s not visible, particularly better for those with dark skin, as most Zinc Moisturisers will leave a white haze on your face. I work in a almost an all male environment and feel 100% comfortable with it.

    • great comment, will give both of these suggestions a try, thanks!
As a sidenote, I'm getting skeptical of SPF sunscreens with all the (mis)information out there on all the chemicals used in sunscreen is actually harmful.I found the original zinc moo goo to be a good product so keen to try the tinted.

  • tbh I've switched from Cerave to QV since it's made in Australia and have no regrets, but of course everyone's skin is different so YMMV

    • My son has eczema and has also switched over to QV recently. It's working for him. Thank goodness too since QV is a lot cheaper. 😂

    • +1 to this, support QV which is made in Australia and generally, gentler than Cerave.
