They got bought by digiDirect
They took peoples' money, drove the business into the ground, and then declared bankruptcy - I had an order that didn't get shipped - and then somehow they get sold to another business and are allowed to continue trading as if nothing's wrong, while all their creditors eat <expletive>.
I don't hold their employees responsible, because ultimately they're just workers and I'm glad they get to keep their jobs especially in this difficult financial climate, but the previous owners are laughing at all the suckers while suffering no repercussions at all for their actions. Because of that I don't know to process the injustice, but it will always leave a sour taste in my mouth for this brand.
Thanks for letting us know. I knew they were bankrupt and sold. But I wonder how common it is for directors to drive the business into the ground so they don't need to pay back creditors. You'd think that the new buyers would inherit that liability, but maybe the slate gets cleaned? It's pretty bad practice!
It wouldn’t work. Technically they bought the IP todo with Booktopia (domain name, trademark etc), but they wouldn’t buy the liability, unless it made commercial sense.
I'm one of the unlucky sods who never received their order, never got a refund and was not eligible as a creditor to get any money back. I'll never buy from Booktopia ever again.
Same here. Not buying from them again. They knew they had financial issues and continue trading, even partnering with AMEX to promote cashback.
