      • Yeah I feel the major service is worse value. But for ~$180 for oil, filter/minor service and 1 year breakdown cover it isn't bad

        • I suppose. It costs me $32 for oil filter and about $30 for synthetic oil. It literally takes 10 minutes once you learn it. No need for jacks!

          • @Naigrabzo: And the breakdown cover?

I paid this much and they also fixed my cruise control and busted indicator for no extra cost

  • Mycar should just do engine oil and oil filter change servicing. Keep it simple. Change things like air filter and spark plugs on an as need basis if they actually do a vehicle check.

For log book service, you most likely save quite a bit of money going to the dealerships for service than your local mechanic and mycar (even with this promo), unless you're driving something fancy pants (where dealers can charge $1000 for a basic service).

    • They already do. That's their $229 Essential Service which is just oil and filter change. $289 gives you the extra 12months roadside assist.

  • Genuine question, do you all still do a 6-monthly service with an old cheap car? I have reduced the frequency to one service every year now given how cheap the car is.

yearly. I mostly do it myself. Most of my cars I don't even jack it up to change oil! Just a reach under. You can change most fluids yourself. Looks up ChrisFix or similar online.

Spark plugs even easier as you don't have to crawl under car.

Air filter is so easy. I did one in 4 minutes yesterday.

Brake fluid flush is a little harder….

Nowadays, I order all the parts via supercheap and get them delivered to save time.

Service takes shorter time that actually having to drive to mechanic.

  • What are your experiences with these mechanics, do they "introduce" more problems? In understand that they all need to make $$$, but its very hard to find practical honest grease monkeys …

  • I took my 2017 Kia to a Brisbane Mycar for a log book service. When I went to pick up the car, the battery was flat. They tried to sell me one of theirs, but it was completely dodgy to me. They jump started the car and I took it out for about 30mins to charge it back up. 6 months later the battery is still going fine.

    • Maybe they left your lights on deliberately!

Fake promo? My quote last week is 940~. Today, the quote is 1028 - 100 = 928. Definitely not $100 off.

Please do yourself a favor and run away. I did my logbook service and also booked in for pink slip inspection at Kellyville MyCar.
They called me and quoted $2,400 repairs to comply with safety checks. Went to another independent mechanic across the road who passed the pink slip with no issues. The mechanic said he is getting lots of MyCar customers who has been upsold with unnecessary repairs.

    Avoid at all costs.

I’ve heard so many similar stories from my car/KTAS customers. Experience similar myself too a number of years ago. Would not recommend this mob in a million years but they obviously suck plenty of people in with promos like this.

Just putting KTAS = Kmart Tyre and Auto Service here for SEO reasons so people can find this comment when Googling around.

Exactly the same experience with MyCar Erina. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16225645/redir

  • For corolla 2018 its only a $55 saving compared to stealership pricing.

  • Turns out to be more expensive than the dealer ship 🤣
Not sure where the deal is.

  • Strongly recommend you compare mycar price to your reputable local mechanic.
10 year old car, 120K service due - website shows just oil change, filter change and some fluid swaps. Run a diagnostic check:
    Mycar $679 - $100 discount - $579
    Local Mechanic - $350
And I know this local mechanic, trustworthy guy been going to him for years.
    This is not a deal!

    • Yeah 350 sounds ok. Diagnostic check is good if your mechanic has the scanner.

  • Fake deal. I had my car booked in for a logbook service already and I was quoted about $380. Then I found out about this promo, called the store and they called their customer care line to have the $100 off added to the booking. When I went to pick up the car today, the receipt came to $370 and this was after the $100 off. The price of the logbook service had jumped up to $470.
