Oddly different to the US spec which comes with 90T ratchets, this set is 84T

GEARWRENCH mechanics tools have all been designed with the professional user in mind to increase productivity, access, and strength. The ratchets and sockets are made from premium alloy steel and feature a full polish chrome finish that resists rust and corrosion. Large, hard-stamped markings allow for easy identification and can be easily recognized as SAE (double line) or metric (knurled line). Additionally, the off-corner loading design puts force on the flats of fasteners for improved durability and reduced fastener rounding.

  • Gonna go in-store for this tomorrow, thanks OP, good find

  • um - who has any use for SAE?

    • People with imperial nuts

    • Old Car Nuts

    • I throw most of mine out.
But anyone who wants to maintain the finish of the bolt and fasteners.
Someone who might own a torque wrench, people with OCD tendencies etc

    • I use SAE more than metric due to most of my work on mowers.
Ones an Aussie Greenfield that still follows the spec from when first done back when Aus was imperial, the other a new Cub Cadet, US made so all SAE.

I wish Cub would follow US car manufacturers and just make it all metric.

Another possible negative for people is that it’s 12 point instead of 6.

      • the 12 point is a let down, have been buying gearwrench 6 point as they grip better. not sure why so many are still making 12 pt, 30 years ago ratchets were very coarse on the arc swing, now most seem to be 70 clicks or better. there is reason impact sockets are 6 pt, grip better and stronger than 12 pt.

    • Aircraft mechanics

  • If this tool set didn’t include SAE, it would be perfect.

  • These and the flex heads from before also look to be on sale again https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/884287

    • +1

I have that rachet set, not a fan of it, would pick a chrome set any day over it. For $69 sure, but "regular" price is a joke.
Even at $69 whichis is what I paid years ago, not a fan. If you have a humid environment, they will build up a fine layer of rust in some areas, and they just don't feel nice.

      Which Flex heads?

      • Ah right thought they would’ve been better, they’re linked a little further down in that post.

  • Based on the description "made from premium alloy steel" you already know it's rubbish.
If it were genuinely premium steel, they would most definitely list what type of steel it is as its a major selling point for professionals that but quality tools.
