This is over 40% more expensive than the other deal, it's not a good price.

    • +4

The RRP was increased from $349 to $399 late last year, I think the ATL was one of those limited qty ebay black friday deals — unlikely to see that price again until the model goes on clearance.

      • +2

Yeah that code expired before I even made the 2 other purchases I had in my cart. Serves me right for posting the first one before finalising lol.

  • how this compared to the aldi one?

    • Aldi is active ice-cream maker ($150). Eg you can blend your ingredients, chuck it in the machine and you'll have softice consistency in just under an hour. Empty into a pre frozen container and leave it in the freezer for a hour and you're good to go.

The ninja above is passive. Think 24 hours ahead and freeze your ingredients in the bowl. Then machine it.

      • +1

        The ninja above is passive.

so that mean the aldi is better cos it has the compressor?

Also how is the final quality result of each method (active and passive?

        • Had a passive one years back. Only used it a couple of times because I couldn't plan ahead 24 hours or overnight for ice-cream the next day.
For that reason I get a lot more usage out of the Aldi one with compressor.
The final result out of both is mostly to do with dialing in recipes and ingredients to suit the machine and your taste.

          • @FarKen:

Have you tried both using the same recipe?

Do you know the recipe to get the ice cream soft serve style like McDonalds or more harder like streets blue ribbon?

            • @pinkybrain:

Have you tried both using the same recipe?

              Nope

Do you know the recipe to get the ice cream soft serve style like McDonalds or more harder like streets blue ribbon?

Haven't tried any specific recipes matching those. My taste is more towards minimum sugar, less refined ingredients and easy to assemble.
What experiments have let me to believe is the more fat and sugar the softer the ice-cream when fully frozen.
A quick base which works well is 2 ripe bananas, ⅓ can sweetened condensed milk. Top up with full cream milk until you have 500ml. Two heaped spoons 100% baking cocoa. Blend until smooth and let the ice-cream maker do its thing for a nice choc-banana ice-cream.
So easy and not all that bad if you compare with supermarket ice-cream ingredients.
Swap cocoa for vanilla or add mango pieces.

              • +1

@FarKen: I tried two bananas in the ninja choc recipe last week, I found it gave the ice cream a more dense texture, sort of like an old school instant chocolate pudding. Not bad, I think the solids make it taste less brain freeze.

I also tried banana sorbet ( 7 bananas pureed) - was disgusting chilled bananas goop - not recommended.

  • I've been enjoying plenty of icecream from the previous standard creami deal

Feels strange to be having icecream for breakfast or lunch

    • have you gained weight?

how this or your one compared to the aldi one?

      • +3

Creami is different as you have to freeze it for 24 hours.

Most of my icecream has been made from amino z protein powder and milk so they are low calorie/high protein. So weight is same.

I did make a mcflurry, which was close to the real thing but wouldn't eat that everyday.

        • Thinking of buying one for exactly this purpose, how is it? Worthwhile?

          • @paul04: it's great, as I don't feel too guilty having icecream. Plus, it's getting more and more expensive at the shops.

            • @impoze: Thanks you convinced me to buy one. Now to deal with breaking the news to my wife tomorrow..!

              • @paul04: Don't tell until she hears the loud noise and asks what it is, tastes the creamy icecream and takes the whole pint away.

                • @impoze: I might actually try that haha

                • @impoze: It just turned up today, she is not happy at all!

                  • @paul04: 😅 but have you made any icecream yet

                    • @impoze: Any tips on how to mix it, have done a vanilla and chocolate aminoz protein ice cream?

                      • @paul04: I've been using one of these

                        https://www.kmart.com.au/product/milk-frother-43329281/

Just keep it down the bottom to not froth up.

Other things, I have used immersion blender

                        • @impoze: Sorry i wasn't clear, it's been freezing in the freezer for 24hrs, any tricks or just put it in and run the ice cream setting?

                          • @paul04: Take it out give it a minute or two.

If it has the hump/lump, scrape it down with a peeler. You can freeze without the lid, and then put the lid on to try prevent the hump.

Then I run it on lite, and respin once.

Do mix in after that if you want to add bits

                            • @impoze: Thanks, it came out great, better than expected!

                              • @paul04: Nice, how many scoops of amino did you put?

                                • @impoze: 2 scoops and filled to the line with milk and mixed with stick blender. I had Smooth Chocolate and Vanilla open so made one of each. The top of the Vanilla was pretty crumbly but after a respin it was still decent. My kids are now begging for the McFlurry one, shouldn't have mentioned it!

        • What’s your fave mix? I’ve been doing 200ml almond milk, 200ml skim milk, 8g pudding mix and 8g stevia. Best aminoz so far for this was the choc malt

          • +2

            @John: I've tried:

            • Chocolate Malt, this is also my favourite so far.
            • Green tea matcha
            • Chocolate
            • Vanilla

I followed @da1nonly's recipe from previous deal post

The fake mcflurry recipe was from the Aus FB group. I modified it for only 100ml of condensed milk and it was still sweet.

            McFlurry Fakeaway Ice Cream

            • Half a can condensed milk
            • 200ml thickened cream
            • 1 tbsp vanilla instant pudding
            • 1 tsp/dash vanilla extract
            • Top with milk to just below the line
            • Freeze for 24 hours.
            • Spun on ice cream setting.
  • Price matched with JB in QLD for convenience (click and collect warehouse is too far away).

Ninja Swirl should be released soon so might be better to wait as you may see lower prices or get the Swirl for similar price. Swirl does the same but also allows you to make soft serves too.

    • Expect it to be $400+ though

    • +1

It’s not really soft serve. According to early comments and reviews, all it does is squeeze out the creami mixture into a soft serve shape. It’s the same taste and texture as scooping it out of the bowl
