Nothing official but rumors are this will get Android 4.1 in January.

    • +6

LG has poor updating service. Can't really trust them.
I got LG e900 early this year from unique mobile here.Recently,I was told this phone has no update for WP7.8.

      • +1

Agreed, I wouldn't get this phone unless you plan to put a custom rom on it.

      • +1

That was a decision on Microsofts part not LGs.

      • +1

This is a non issue as wp7 phones can be manually updated. Many US Telco's didn't even offer the 7.5 update via official update but the phones can be manually updated.

    • LG can't be trusted. The bootloader is locked as well, so it's not possible to put custom roms on this phone.

  • Definitely a solid phone. Got a 8.1 from The Verge. Good deal for $349.

  • LG made a better phone at the same price, it's called Nexus 4

    • +3

nah, Nexus 4 16GB costs $399 and no micro sd expansion.

    • +7

good luck getting your hands on a nexus 4 (or 10) at least these are available

      • still rocking my s2 from shoppingexpress pricing error, it's all good till nexus 4 comes around :p

        • +6

WE OBers need to know… how much was the S2?

  • Where is the nexus 4 $350?

    • Google.

      • +1

Haha I can't tell if you're saying "Google" as a noun or a verb. In this context, both are correct lol.

  • +7

I have had this phone for a week now. I love it. I waited and waited for the Nexus 4 to become available and gave up. I don't regret this decision at all.

  • +1

this is tempting. But i'll wait for my Nexus 4 from US. Even tough it dosen't have a micro SD slot, i will go for Nexus 4 just because it has Jelly bean, google support and gorilla glass 2.

  • -2

i wonder if we can disable the 3G option in jelly bean like iphone. I have HTC desire HD now, i can't selectively switch off 3G to save battery.

    • Yes the option is still there in 4.2.1, but have you actually tested this? Do you use your phone for data traffic at all?

    • +6

Are you for real?. You know how to root your phone and get JB but don't know how to browse through a couple of settings under network?

  • I seriously think Samsung should come up with a phone with similar specs and prices soon.

    • What about the S3(grey import)

      • The s3 is quite similar. But even a grey import is more expensive?

Actually the s3 is likely a better phone. 2GB ram. I struggle with 1GB, but my app use is crazy =)

        • The s3 is quite similar

          That's what I was saying.

S3(non-4G) has micro sd slot, removable battery, and the Samsung features but only 1GB ram.

  • +1

I looked at a few youtube videos and comparisons and the s3 is only slightly better, doesn't justify the increased price imo.

I have now ordered this phone :)

  • Very good price if you're in the market for an Android phone. This would've been on par with the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3. Personally it's not for me, but I'd recommend it to others. The Nexus 4 is good but it's hard to purchase now and I think it's for those who are interested in the Vanilla GUI.

  • LG's next phone is the first of the 5" 1920x1080 displays if I recall - but I'm not sure they are a big enough player for me to consider switching from Samsung or HTC. I wish them luck though - I'd like to see at least 3 big guys (not counting Google here)

  • So this will work on either 850MHz (Telstra) or 900MHz (Optus) for 3G?
I just dropped my phone in a pool about an hour ago, it's currently in a container of rice but I don't like my chances. I need one that'll work on both Telstra Next-G or Optus 3G.

    • Google drying methods - but I think you should put it near a gentle heat before trying the rice. Good luck.

    • I got drunk on Christmas day and jumped into the pool with my phone in my pocket, it was a defy+ for $99 from telstra and supposedly water resistant but is currently sitting in a cup of dry rice. Water resistant my arse.

      • Water proof =/= Water resistant

    avoid LG.

after my still woeful experience with the P990, I will never buy another LG product no matter how good value they are.

    • +4

I second CVonV. My P990 had great HW but LG let it down with its poor SW releases and poor SW quality.

    • +3

I disagree. I have an LG L7 P705 which is quite a low end phone. Hardware is very nice and it has one of the best stock roms on a phone I have ever used (including rooted and custom). All of the crappy bloatware from Optus could simply be uninstalled. Previous phones were HTC which I was very disappointed with. I have received ~5+ minor updates in the 6 months I have had it.

I think people are getting a bit carried away with being the latest and greatest.

  • With any phone you can find someone who had a woeful experience, this phone looks like great value for money imo ;)

    All reviews are very positive

    • reviews are only good for finding out what the stock rom features are

always check xda to see how real world experiences are.. specially with battery life

  • After ordering this phone this morning, put my galaxy s2 on ebay and it sold already :D

    • How much you sell it for?

      • Well when looking at this deal this morning I noticed people had bid on some used galaxy s2's and the bids were at $320 + postage (LOL I KNOW)

So I figured what the hell and put mine up for $335 posted and it sold… hahha, gotta love ebay for that reason alone ;)

        • -1

I should try and sell my waterlogged defy after I fish it out of the bucket of rice.

      • great price.rker.rker

  • How about this deal for the Sony Xperia S? Similar specs and cheaper;

    http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?product…

    • That is a good price, even though with the $75ish shipping fee.

    • +1

From a quick glance I see it has a smaller screen and not sure if its quad core?

    • Dual core only and no Micro SD…It's almost a year old now.

Having said that, for under $300 it's fantastic value, the Xperia S is a great device. The screen is amazing (Sony Bravia 342 ppi). 32GB internal storage and USB OTG help compensate for the lack of Micro SD. It's also good to have a separate port for HDMI out, so you can charge at the same time - most devices such as the LG Optimus have HDMI via the Micro USB port. I find it very useful when travelling for work, using hotel LCD TV screen with phone as media player, or as a gaming system with emulators and a sixaxis controller. 12 megapixel camera is also very good and battery life is good for a smartphone. Plus I like the size, newer phones are getting a little too big for me.

    • You're better off trying to score an xperia sola off the voda website IMO.

  • Bought this phone for my Xmas present. Unwrapped it yesterday and no battery! Not happy Mr Kogan!

    • Not quite the 2150 MAh battery they have in the description! That's not good enough. Hopefully they don't do the same to me!

    • What? It doesn't come with a battery?

  • any idea on how long postage would take to sydney?

  • +2

It's a good phone on paper. However, LG hasn't guaranteed any updates for this phone. The boot-loader is locked, so you can't put a custom ROM on this phone either!

    • yeah… locked bootloader = badluck! xda users are hoping for an unlock from LG.. but judging from the way they (don't) support their products, in particular, the p990.. they'll be waiting a heck of a while. the P990 was promised an ICS update last year.. it has only come now. and even then it's still not available for Australia

      • Seems to be a way to root the device here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29868577
or am I missing something? I'm relatively new to rooting and custom ROM's so I could be wrong but thought I'd share what I found.

        • rooting is different to custom roming.. pretty much all phones you can root.. but not all phones you can put a custom rom.. you need an unlocked bootloader to be able to do that (as well as root)

  • Is this phone better than galaxy s2? S2 is my current phone.
1 year old and it starts to fail

  • +1

In terms of hardware it is much better then S2. In terms of software, well S2 would have more support from custom roms and the community for support is much bigger so depends what is more important to you.

if you kept both phone stock, this phone be better then the S2 :)

  • The link is to the Black model but there is also white. Which to get, white or black?

  • Has anybody received the phone yet?
I have been waiting so long now and I even didn't get the "send" mail….

    • Mine came today homer.

Only received the tracking email yesterday.

      So far so good.

  • i have Lg http://www.mp3.sk/akcia-lg-p880-optimus-4xhd-16gb-android-os… How did you get to the software upgrade mode? I tried following the instructions, but it only gets me to the recovery mode.

  • Got mine finally. Now the internet is not working. Am I missing something? Do I need to configure it? Help?

    • +2

      APN settings?

      • +1

Haha so simple. Never had to do that before as the best phone I ever had is a nokia brick.

  • +1

    Mine arrived DOA today.
Phone is broken and showing flickering lines.
Calling Kogan right now 45 minute wait.
A long and frustrating replacement process ahead.
    FML.

    Worst customer service.
