      Thanks for the neg! lol

One of the issues I have with buying these runout power stations that are likely 3+ years old and perhaps even older (manufactured in bulk over a few months) prior to their release date for both EcoFlow and Bluetti. So be prepared for failures and hopefully fully working "new" replacements. For example, DOA unit received? Maybe only a refund will be available.

For $239, it's closer to Bluetti's runout price at $179 & now $199. As these get to nearly 4 years on the shelf (including Bluetti units), I am expecting prices to drop even further, especially after the new models are launched.

Why would the age of a device cause failures?

        • +2

Battery chemistry ages. No matter how often you use it, an older battery will have worse performance or might die on you sooner.

      • I like to think that the specium beam is powered by thousands of these :3

      • +2

My River 2 that I purchased from amazon in July 2024 had a manufacture date of December 2023. I think that was just before the River 3 was announced so they may not have manufactured more River 2 units after that date.
I mean sure new stock may have been stacked in front of old stock, but that's a reasonable indiction of how old the units may be.

        • I brought one Dec 2023 for $1100 >_<

Would be more impressive if River 3 are online UPS with 0ms transfer time :|

    • +1

Just a stab in the dark, but maybe you can just run one of these between your wall socket and a traditional UPS?

Even if the UPS has a badly degraded battery, as long as it still lasts a few seconds, it could maybe act as a buffer for the delay in the power station's transfer time?

Anyway, I'm sure someone can probably jump in to explain why this would be a horrible idea in practice.

      • +2

Depends on the size of your UPS.
You can usually find replacement cells for degraded UPS's and replace them for less than $30 a cell (most home office UPS only need 1 or 2)
Far cheaper than buying a whole portable power station to supplement a UPS with a degraded battery.

        • I meant more in the context of using a UPS (even one with a degraded battery) to supplement the power station, to make up for the power station's inadequacy.

  • What's the yard stick for this stuff? How long would 250wh power a big fridge for?

    • +8

(Big) Fridges usually use around 100 watts when running the compressor (it will say somewhere on the fridge or it's manual what it's wattage is)

However they don't always have the compressor running, we often assume it will be running the compressor about about 33% of the time, depending on how often the doors are opened, and how warm the kitchen is. (lets assume a fridge with an inverter likewise runs at 33% speed most of the time, so that the math would be the same)

Combining these 2 factors a fridge will probably last 3-6 hours depending on usage and what-not. Or 2.5 hours if you have the door open and you take a nap inside

Cool thanks and to sourdawg too. Seems like I'd definitely want the big chungus 700wh for camping and emergencies. It's moot ATM because I'm broke.

    • +1

My Engel is 48w so your baseline is 5 hours. After that there are so many factors, how full the fridge is, how hot is it where the fridge is, how often are you opening it, how good is the insulation etc

Salty about these prices. Purchased a I've got the Ecoflow River Max with the battery addon which is like a cinderblock to carry around but has been (fortunately or unfortunately) been running well for about 5 years with no issue so i cant justify a second purchase. It was $1300 and only had a capacity of 576Wh. It still amazes me how fast it can charge in an hour.

Had a power failure once and support was really responsive and quick. (The Facebook group/reddit is really good for info)

Very tempted to cop the River 2 Pro but i don't need 2 of these… 700wh for just $700 is a solid deal….

That 6% code is only good for on the official website. ( au.ecoflow.com ) I think.

I don't think it works on Amazon.

Let me know if I'm wrong. I'd be interested to know?

You get better support and Ecocredits when you buy direct anyway.

I've had a lot of issues dealing with Amazon over recent years. I wont even trust them with my CC on file anymore.

I'd only deal with EF direct. Adding Amazon into the mix is only asking for trouble in my opinion.

    • Problem is the River 2 price is way higher on au.ecoflow.com.

      • yeah associated. please drop on the ef website so i can buy one for $239

  • How do you get the $80 coupon for River 2?

    • Coupon OOS quickly in just 2 hours.

  • how long could a PS5/Xbox run on this thing? How about a PC with a RTX 2080 Super? (has 750W power supply)

  • +1

    About $1/Wh

  • Looks like a feature subscription model for these things might be on the horizon.
