The best deal in 2025 for now

I don't think I've seen this machine cheaper than that.

I was saving up for the Oracle jet but might just have to buy this instead.

    • Wqs the oracle jet the one with auto tamping also?

      • Yep, but has 2 thermojets (faster heatup) instead of dual boilers (brew coffee and steam milk simultaneously).

        • Thanks. Im very happy with my bdb. Curious how good the new jet would be

        • +4

Correction, you can't froth and brew simultaneously.
          - current Oracle Jet owner. Owned 2 Oracle dual boilers prior to this.

          • @Wozza32: I was implying dual boilers allow you to brew and steam at the same time, not the Oracle jet.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the jet vs previous gens?

            • +1

@TEER3X: Ah I see now, sorry I misread.

I'm a tech-head and the Jet has a lot to offer in that regard, which I enjoy. I work from home and love that I can just turn it on and have a flat white poured in under 2 mins between meetings.
For groups (entertaining) however, it becomes less efficient as you spend more time waiting between tasks. For the other 98% of the time I love it.

              Few other thoughts:
It looks and feel nice but not quite as solidly built as the OG Oracle.
The grinder is great (by comparison)
The water reservoir requires constantly emptying and refilling as it chucks out more water between serves.

              • @Wozza32: You can get the new Baratza burrs for the old Oracle grinder (makes it the same as the new one).

The thermojet + lower OPV spring pressure will see more water dumped in the bottom tray.

Maybe consider the touch impress as well? 54mm is arguably better than 58mm for extraction

      • +6

This is the first ove heard a 54mm > 58…. Considering most commerical machines would be even wider. What's the basis for this?

          • +2

@chew_chew: Interesting.. there's probably some truth to it, but I also feel a lot of it is subjective. Either way, I probably wouldn't base an espresso machine purchase on basket size…

          • +1

@chew_chew: Keep in mind that the 54mm basket that Lance tested is totally different to any other consumer-level 54mm basket out there. If you take a Breville 54mm double shot basket, you won't be able to get enough grounds in there to match the weight of coffee in a 58mm 18g basket, let alone the 22g basket that comes with the Oracle.

            • @Sleepycat3: Fair point! Agree the stock breville 54mm double shot basket is fairly small and struggles with more than 18g.
For those looking for deeper baskets, I can vouch for the Pesado IMS or HE baskets which comfortably holds >21g.

My comment for TEER3X was specifically around Touch Impress vs Oracle Jet (not the Oracle). Given the price difference of at least $1k, one should really consider what additional features they are paying for.

              • @chew_chew: The 54mm basket is simply for smaller shots. Try doing a 7- 8 gram single with a 58mm basket.

      • +1

Yeah I'm hoping the $1200 deal comes back

  • +1

for someone already has a grinder, is this still a good deal compared to the Breville Dual Boiler at around $1200?

    • +3

Sure. Have decaf in one and regular in the other

    • +8

I’d definitely go the DB over this if you already have a grinder.

      • Only if it's a capable grinder or they plan on buying one.

      • Thanks, yes I have the Breville Smart Grinder which should be OK. Will wait for a deal on the DB

      • And what's your opinion on someone that has neither? Our BES870BSS shat itself about a year back an it's been instant coffee or too many takeaway cups ever since. I'm on the fence, I hear ozbargains love for the DB but in some universe is the Oracle better? Because I'm thinking I'd be stupid to pay more for an inferior machine. Is that the case?

        • The Oracle can be more automated. Both can make pretty good coffees (budget for recently roasted beans rather than supermarket ones). If you know how, you might be able to get a better coffee out of the DB, but it'll be more work.

You could get the DB and a much better grinder, though I find the Smart Grinder pretty good and would be a suitable companion to the DB.

(I have the Oracle and have used the Smart Grinder)

          • @wfdTamar: IF the DB and a great grinder were the exact same price as the Oracle (not suggesting it ever would be this is just a hypothetical) which would you grab? 🙂

            • @seamonkey: It’s your choice. Depends if you want more work or convenience.

            • +1

@seamonkey: Would get the DB because thw oracle has a different steam wand, harder to steam good milk out of the box

    • If you already have a grinder, wait for the inevitable BDB sale for <1000 - these happen a few times a year.

    • This has auto tamping. The grinder is essentially very similar to the Smart Grinder Pro. The steam wand has an auto mode, which is different to the Dual Boiler's steam wand. The biggest difference that I found is that the workflow is much quicker with the Oracle. It is quick and simple, that my 9-yo can make as good a cup of coffee from the Oracle as a knowledgeable home coffee drinker can. The Oracle really does remove some of the fiddlyness that you have to deal with the Dual Boiler and a separate grinder.

Personally, today, I still use my 11 year old Oracle but with my DF64V grinder now.

Those who have been using the Dual Boiler for a long while will remember back in the day when you could get the Dual boiler for $1000, and claim a free Smart Grinder Pro from Breville in a package deal. So it is very painful to buy a Dual boiler for $1200 vs the Oracle for $1455.

      • That’s exactly what I bought Oracle Touch, the 990 model. Everything become so easy

  • +2

FYI, had this machine for 4 years now and don't regret getting it at all.

    • Any servicing? Do you descale often?

      • +2

I make somewhere between 2-4 milk coffees a day on it. Don't descale that often. Last year I snapped the steam wand because I'm an unco ogre, the servicing place is super close to where I live and was cheap to fix up. They'll even use the parts you source (but won't give you a warranty on it)

  • Older shape (better). New ones are touch screen rubbish…

    Settings - >brew- >temp- >press +- …… or just turn a knob!

    Will watch this space

  • So this is a fancy version of DB, but with a build in grinder ?

    • It's more than that. Watch some Youtube comparisons.

    • It's a DB with a build in grinder, auto tamping, and auto milk frothing. If you are the only one in your home making coffee and you love the technicalities, the DB with a nice flat burr grinder would be better. If you want to train your kids & spouse so that they can make coffee for you, then get the Oracle.

The built-in grinder is the equivalent to a Smart Grinder Pro.

  • I've had this model for about 8 years now (could be even more, cannot find the receipt), and find it even better than the touch they got to our office..
You won't regret buying this machine!

  • +2

I have had an oracle for about 18 months and it's an ok machine. This deal is great I think - cheapest I have seen.

What you are paying for is a dual boiler machine that auto grinds, doses, and tamps. If you are looking for that workflow, it's great. Delivers on all points, and is a little easier than manual.

It's weak point is the grinder. I upgraded a few months ago and noticed improvement in espresso quality. But to do that involved going back to manual process. Horses for courses.

    • Probably won't make a huge difference, but everything from the pro and up come with baratza burrs in the inbuilt grinder.

  • +2

I went from a barista pro to this. It’s a good machine but the automatic tamp is a pile of junk. I ended up getting a separate grinder and tamp. It was to inconsistent and the tamp was appalling. Otherwise the machine is good.

  • In case anyone cares, the stock image is incorrect. They've displayed the black truffle which has the matte finish, as opposed to the black sesame which has a glossy finish.
I've informed AO in case someone tells me afterwards that in wrong 😜
I had the sesame, it went poof after 24 months because I didn't maintain it properly. Got the stainless silver one and it had an electrical fault. Now have the Oracle Jet. Which is quicker from a workflow perspective and the grinder beats this one. Otherwise for anyone interested, this will make an awesome home cuppa.

Same stock image as the Breville page, same on bing lee page and amazon. Only one with the shiny colour is harvey norman.

      • +1

You're right. It may be that they've changed their lineup, but I know from standing in front of both of them that the sesame has a gloss finish whereas the truffle has the matte finish. As mentioned, I owned the sesame, to match our other appliances. Only to find it had different internals (1800w vs 2400w) and seemed more likely to break down. Ymmv.
