Saw while at Costco North Lakes today. Seems reasonable value. Unsure if store specific or nationwide. Plenty of stock at North Lakes.
$249 at HN https://www.harveynorman.com.au/smeg-aesthetic-50s-style-2-s…

IMO $129 is still too expensive for a Toaster….
IMO $129 is still too expensive for a Toaster, that will sh¡t itself after a short time.
Too expensive.
"Would you like some toast? Some nice hot crisp brown buttered toast. No? How about a muffin then? Nothing? You know the last time you had toast. 18 days ago, 11.36, Tuesday 3rd, two rounds. I mean, what's the point in buying a toaster with artificial intelligence if you don't like toast. I mean, this is my job. This is cruel, just cruel."
This will be OOS if has apple logo
Boys from the dwarf!
One in trouble; all in trouble!
me being pedantic here, but a strict reading of the description on the HN site tells me that it doesn't actually do…. toast.
"3 functions"
then the 3 are: defrost, reheat, and bagel.
(bagel is only heat one side)
So, the workaround might be: bagel, then take the now half toasted bread out and turn it around, use bagel again, then reheat so both sides are now nicely warm…i'll let myself out
The default function setting is TOAST.
Your Sherlock Holmes like investigative skills and dedication to the customisation of toast preparation deserves an up-vote.
Rubbish brand these days anyway
For the record, Choice Magazine rates this SMEG toaster pretty highly in terms of effectiveness/functions (just below the KMart ANKO TA1420-SA) but does not recommend it. The 2 slice toasters it recommends (Feb 2024 issue) are (in oder) the Kambrook KTA220, Morphy Richards Equip MRET02B, Kambrook The Smarter Choice KTA120WHT, KitchenAid Long Slot 5KMT3115 and KitchenAid 5AKMT223.
The $25 Kmart toaster is more highly rated than this $129 "on sale" one…
Decimal point mistake!
fake "50s". The real ones turn the slice when you open and close the door. Great for crumpets!
Didn’t you have to burn your fingers getting it out yourself and turning it around?
I remember a vintage toaster, you open the side door and the bread slides down. Then fold it up, and the other side is cooked. Then you open again and burn your fingers taking it out.
That sounds like a cool mechanism, lol
@Skatez: It turns out i was wrong, and that is older.
Not only did they have automatic toasters in the 50s, but some were better than now:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OfxlSG6q5Y
https://www.theverge.com/22801890/sunbeam-radiant-control-to…Peak toaster!
@bargaino: Definitely! I want that one but I really want to see the first one you mentioned.

I thought they all worked like that, but apparently not.
@bargaino: Ahh that was satisfying, thanks for sharing that, I had to see it. But now I want that one too 😂
@bargaino: peak toaster is old enough now to be out of patent, but somehow is too complicated {or something} to be made and sold now….
Unless you’re really into this brand, don’t get it. It’s overpriced plastic junk that breaks just as quickly as the cheap ones. Although customer service is good and if it breaks within warranty (which for the kettle is surprisingly long) they send you a new one without trouble.
Cheap plastic and poor quality The settings rubbed off the dial quickly so now it is hit and miss with getting toast to your desired level. Paying for the name and not for quality
Wheres the guy who shares the kmart alternative?
