Is It Worth Replacing a Damaged Screen on a Google Pixel 7 Pro for Trade-In?

Good evening OzBargain,

Currently have a Pixel 7 Pro that I'm hoping to trade in for an upgrade.

I have a minor crack on the screen that has caused part of the touch display to be unresponsive.
Looking at the trade in conditions, Google and JB Hi-Fi both won't accept trade ins for a phone in this condition.

I'm debating if I should replace the screen ($450) which would give my phone about $400 in trade-in value.

Has anyone had issues with trade in for phones with a replaced screen?

Thanks

EDIT:
Oops forgot the reason why I'm asking is for this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888519.

Trade in savings > cost of replacing.

So… just so I understand this right… you want to spend $450 to get a… $400 trade in?

    • Math checks out.

    • "Gerry Harvey hates him - lose $50 with this one convoluted trick"

    • Haha I realise I didn't include some pertinent details.

I'm looking at the current trade in for the Pixel 9 Pro XL: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888519

I'm essentially paying $50 to satisfy the conditions that would make this deal possible for me.

The saving from RRP is more than the cost to replace, hence my original post.
      Sorry should've made it clearer.

Looks like they're around US$44.94 to US$101.64 + GST for some of the highest selling screens on Aliexpress.

I'm sure there will be more than one instructional video on Youtube.

Trade in requires the parts to be Authentic unfortunately

OP is long gone. He posted and ran. Don't worry folks. School holidays are almost over.

      • Nope still here unfortunately

I got a Pixel 7a screen replaced in Melbourne a few weeks ago for around $270. PM me if you are interested.

Why not just say who did it for you here?

Yeah love these secret posts….. Just share the place.

    • Does anyone know if replacing a screen via a local place (so not an authorised Google repairer) void Pixel warranty and in-turn they won't allow you to trade it in?

I ask because about 5-6 years ago, I tried trading in an iPhone to Apple (as I was upgrading) at their store. During the process, the consultant took the phone to the back and then came back out and asked if I had the screen previously repaired to which I advised, yes in Thailand, and he said that as it wasn't repaired by an authorised repairer, i.e. them - they couldn't take it as trade in. I learnt my lesson - at least with an iPhone you must repair it at an authorised repairer, otherwise it voids any future issues/trade ins.

I've got a Pixel 7 pro which I need to repair the cracked screen, but the sole authorised repairer is way too expensive. I'm wondering if I go down the route of getting repaired by one of those phone shops and then attempt to trade it in later this year to either a retailer such as JB Hifi or Google directly when I look at upgrading

Am I reading this right? Pay $450 to fix screen to trade it in for $400 + $100 Google store credit?

So you'll come out $50 infront? If so, not worth the hassle.

You would have to get another discount and voucher on top of the trade to make it worthwhile IMO.
