MILWAUKEE M12 2 Piece Combo Kit + Bonus 3/8" Impact Rachet + $100 Store Credit - $529 Shipped @ TotalTools

450

Total Tools have bonus redemptions today (up to 20% value in store credit)
In this case, you spend at the $500 threshold to get $100 store credit for your next purchase.

I was looking at the 2 piece M12 kit (M12FPP2A2422B) which is priced at $499
Then I saw this deal - essentially paying $30 more for the 3/8" ratchet which is supposedly worth $308 (looks like this - https://www.totaltools.com.au/119593-milwaukee-12v-fuel-3-8i…)

Basically getting a great deal here
Std kit is $499, 3/8 ratchet is $308, so that would cost $807 normally.
But today you pay $529 and get $100 store credit to buy other tools (I also stacked with the discounted Metcash gift cards I bought last year)

The page description (pasted below) does not specifically list the 3/8 ratchet, but it's inside the specially marked box.
Extra bonus is that you don't have to wait/pay for postage for the freebie

the price fluctuates every time they have one of these sales on this set… the price gets jacked by $50 each time then drops a few weeks later to $479

They have the 20% bonus insider rewards on a regular basis too.
I actually went to Alexandria store to buy a different Milwaukee combo kit on Boxing Day (the previous bonus day), but their POS machines wouldn't take the Metcash Gift card.
As always, patience is key with getting a good deal.

      • Are you still eligible for the store credit promo if paying with giftcard?

        • +1

Yes, my receipt shows the insider credit balance +$100
Paying with insider credit does not count towards the bonuses though.
I've saved mine to be used another day as I could not make $1k or even a 2nd transaction of $250 (guy at shop confirmed that a 2nd txn of >$250 would get qualify for the $50 credit, but if I used the $100 credit from the first txn, that would not count towards the qualifying spend of $250)

          • @Zippy7: I found they have different rules instore and online. I have been able to use the insider credit balance and it counted towards the minimum spend requirements for the bonuses online while the computer didn't allow for it instore.

  • This is quite appealing to me even though I'm using Ryobi tools! Any thoughts from owners of these tools?

    • I'm in the same boat.

Cousin is a sparky and father in law also has these and they both rave about them. Super light weight and small so great for getting into tight spaces but pack lots of power.

Yeah, completely agree - I've tried these and they're basically as good as my bulky Makita 18V tools - might not be as powerful in a side-by-side comparison, but I think the small size, and the weight distribution of these (with the smaller 2 Ah battery) make them just much more maneuverable in tight spaces, and easier to hold at weird angles.

The M12 brushless impact driver is the best tool I've ever owned.

You generally can't go wrong with the good brands, it just comes down to what ecosystem you want to commit to. Some people are dogmatic about it, but you'll see 10 year old Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt tools still going strong on construction sites everywhere. If you want to be hyper fancy, go Hilti.

I have this set, but the previous generation. I rate them highly. They’re close to the power of an equivalent 18v Ryobi but significantly lighter and smaller. These will drive screws in areas 18v tools can’t and in further than other 12v tools.

These only downside is the impact diver is VERY LOUD. I feel sorry for my neighbours when I need to use it.

"These only downside is the impact diver is VERY LOUD. I feel sorry for my neighbours when I need to use it."

I have the current drill and impact and this is still very true, especially the impact driver. They're great, but they're much louder and don't feel as smooth in use as my Makita 40v drill and driver, even though they are significantly less powerful.

I still really like them though and always pick them up over the Makitas unless I need to do some heavier work.

    • Ryobi 18V batteries are completely opposite of the rest of the brands: DeWalt, Makita, ect. Using a 3D printer, we can make an adapter that can fit into other tools. So I believe better to go with others, and there will be adapters soon.

    • I run Milwaukee cordless nailers and a track saw. Awesome tools.

These are M12 which is a lower battery output than the M18 range, so be aware of that.

    • I have both Ryobi and Milwaukee.

The One+ HP Brushless stuff is not bad, but they are fair bit dearer than normal One+ and creeps up into Milwaukee price range (when on sale)

Normal brushed motor stuff is okay for most, but lacking for anything heavy duty.

    • Ryobi 18V is not bad, changing to 12V is only a side grade, and potentially downgrade.

  • Yes mate. The drill and driver are great. Use them all the time for work cause there so light compared to m18. 4ah battery goes all day. Im thinking about another set for home.

  • Is 12v good enough for around the house and car kind of stuff or would i be better off with an 18v system?

    • +1

If you only use it for housework 12V is far better than 18V. I only use 18V when I do framing. 12V is much lighter and ergonomics than 18V, overall very easy to use.

      • As a complete noob, can I ask what an Impact Driver does that the Hammer Drill can't? On the face of it it seems like you could get by with just the Hammer Drill.

        • +2

Impact Driver is for driving screws into materials without predrilling.

Personally I think non-SDS hammer drills are garbage. If you need a hammer drill, get one that uses a SDS bit. A lot more efficient at impacting as the drill bits have a different locking profile.

        • +1

Impact Driver are designed to fasten screws and fasteners. It applies a force perpendicular to the bit. It will not cause a reaction force on your wrist when tightening the screw to avoid hurting your wrist, especially when you are locking some big screws or fasteners. Hammer Drill on the other hand can help you drill though masonry/tile/glass when chooing appropiate drill bit. You can use hammer drill instead of impact driver when you are doing some casual works.

  • The hammer drill and impact driver are pretty good for 12v tools but the bonus ratchet is really mediocre. It’s not a surprise why they’re giving it away.

The 12v ratchet you’d want to get if you use it often would be the high speed ratchet ($329) that is very well reviewed on the Torque Test Channel https://www.totaltools.com.au/173127-milwaukee-12v-fuel-brus…

    • It looks like the bonus tool is the Fuel version that you've linked.

      • +1

There’s two different fuel versions and the bonus one is the worse one https://www.totaltools.com.au/119593-milwaukee-12v-fuel-3-8i…

I got it as part of a larger Milwaukee automotive bundle and it’s really large for a ratchet considering it doesn’t have much torque & it’s much slower to loosen/fasten bolts than the high speed ratchet I bought separately after watching reviews.

The size of the bonus ratchet can really limit where you can use it mostly because the ratchet head is really big.

    • Isn't the fuel the more powerful one?

      • +1

        There’s two fuel ratchets.

The bonus one (bulkier one $308) has 74NM of torque and 200rpm no load speed, the high speed (not included, $329) has 47Nm of torque and a 450rpm no load speed.

I have both of them and in reality imo the torque difference isn’t noticeable but the rpm difference and size difference is.

There’s very few fasteners that are torqued to more than 50nm so the high speed can’t handle it without breaking it loose by hand, but less than 75nm so the bigger fuel ratchet can still loosen it.

        • +1

          Thanks mate

        • Great info! They look so similar in size it's hard to tell in photos. so the FHIR is the newer model when compared to the FIR (in the model name)? would you say the head on the FHIR is the same, smaller or larger than the non fuel version as that was one of the main reason the non fuel was the choice for a lot of people.

  • It's a good price if you dont have the rachet. The rachet works pretty well. Also Milwaukee 12V system is capable for professional use too.

  • +1

i have this set and its great!

  • Already got all the 18v tools but shieeet, ordered this and going to start accumulating more 12v tools yeehaw
The $100 bonus really makes this deal worth $429 to me as I need to buy other stuff anyway, which is much cheaper than the $1300+ buying this all separately. Bargain.

Plus, a little reduction on the tax bill knocks close to 40% off the original purchase price, killer deal.

  • Same price at Sydney Tools, just picked one up it's insane value.

The ratchet alone is worth $200.

  • Insane value!

I've been looking to purchase the ratchet wrench alone + battery combo ($150) so this is an auto win!

  • Good deal. I picked up this drill/impact set early last year as I was getting sick of the size and heft of my XGT Makitas.

They're great little units and very powerful for their size. I barely use my XGT drill and driver any more (when you need the extra power, you need it though).

I'd recommend getting a high output 2.5Ah battery with the hundo in store credit. There's a noticeable increase in power compared to the 2Ah battery that comes in the kit.

Found this, is this a good value as well? I just need it for around the house like drilling on brick wall. Will M12 suffice or better to get m18?

    • +1

M12 will be more than enough

    • +1

If you're completely new to battery tools then the 18v lineup is more than enough with lots of options to extend.

The 12v lineup has a premium IMO for being more compact and lighter to handle. There's fewer tools in the 12v lineup and obviously the batteries won't last as long and tools won't be as powerful.

  • Thanks OP. Got a set of Makita 18V system but wanted a lighter set.

Any deals on bit sets to go along with it anyone?

  • I've owned this m12 set for a about 3 years now and I've had no issues.
I had a ryobi brushless prior (impact and hammer) but i lost interest in swapping the whole set because the battery kept on failing, was a novelty getting a new kit every time and then just became an annoyance.

  • +1

M12 are great. However, batteries are pains in ass to pull them out

  • What other m12 tools or accessories should we spend on with the $100 insider rewards?
