Garmin Forerunner 955 Running Watch + Cotton Bandana $451.31 Delivered @ Ryda Online & LuckyWorlds eBay

510
SNS25

It's a new all time low for this popular running watch (Beats the last best price of $499 a few months ago) and a no-brainer at this price compared to other models.

The standard price of $499 from Ryda is already great but I noticed it could be combined with a number of the current eBay coupons: SNS25 / HGJAN25 or PLUSJAN (this one requires eBay Plus) to get an extra $10 to $30 off but the kicker is if you add in a low value item(it also has to be an item that meets the code eligibility) to push the total over $500, you'll then score $50 off, bringing the price down significantly.

This was the total for my transaction(using the SNS25 code)
1. Garmin Forerunner 955 $498.84
2. Cotton Bandana $2.47
SUBTOTAL: $501.31
Coupon Code: less $50
TOTAL: $451.31

And if you pay this with gift cards (which I purchased from AGL Rewards (3%) ~$13 discount), it brings the total cost to $437.77!)

  • Just wondering why this model is still popular…isn't there a 965 version already?

    • +10

It is less than half the price of a 965 and pretty much the same watch except for the screen technology. It's up to you if you think AMOLED is worth ~$500 more than MIP; many don't, hence the popularity.

      • +7

I personally think the MIP is better because it's easier to see in super bright conditions.

        • +1

Me too. I love my 955.

    • The FR965 has AMOLED screen, and a lot of Garmin enthusiasts prefer the MIP screens. Also the FR965 is rarely on sale below $1000 as it's the current model.

I'm a current Apple Watch user looking to switch to a ForeRunner and I think I'd prefer AMOLED screen, so I'm trying to decide between the FR165 and the FR955.

      • +2

Get the 955, I have 165, if the price similar, 955 is much better on functions and battery life. I do regular running, 200km per month, if I put screen always on, it can last 3 days. I hate charging, so I am thinking to buy a MIP screen 955.

        • +1

If you're running 200km a month then this watch is a no brainer! I have the 955 solar and it's one of the best investments you can make for your running! You'll love the extra features

      • I made the switch from Apple Watch to the FR955 and have not looked back. It's definitely better for running, the interface is so nice to read while running, screen easy to read while running, buttons easier to use while running and most of all I love the battery life, no more charging every day. I do miss the find my phone ping and Siri but that's about it.

        • I made the switch from Apple Watch to FR955, havent looked back at all. The less charging makes my life so much better, as usually I forget to charge my apple watch at night and in the morning I decided to wear other watch as the AW might run out of battery during the day. With FR955 I charge when I take showers every couple days. It has built in find my phone as well its a bit hidden but its there for you to use.

        • +1

The FR955 does have a find my phone option as long as you haven't force closed the Garmin connect app. I use it all the time (also came over from Apple Watch).

          • @Greenback16: The 265 is also an option :D

            • @woahxd: Just went from an Apple Watch Ultra to Fenix 7 Pro Solar and must say I really really like the MIP display.

          • @Greenback16: Thanks, I had no idea it had that feature, I'll check it out

            • +1

@donkcat: It can also work in the reverse ie. Use your phone to find your watch

  • Looking for some feedback for son looking at Garmin Forerunner 955 or the Solar instinct 2. He does some basic running, but more into overall fitness and does AFL and Basketball. Curious if the more simplified functions for the Solar instinct 2 and the fact it is a bit more rugged might suit an older teenager.
Anyone had experience with the solar instinct 2?

    • +3

I personally chose the instinct series As a runner. Not needing to think about battery for a whole month is very nice, and it's not missing much, just the running trainer, inbuilt map, and music player.

      Here's a comparison chart.

      • Cheers for that.

    • I would check if they can wear a watch when playing sports, as someone who plays basketball, I take my watch off when playing, this is where a chest heart rate monitor may come in handy instead.

  • +1

What's your thoughts on this vs Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 Sapphire. Current deal for that is ~$900

    • +1

Different watch. Epic is for looks and sturdiness, forerunner are light plastic watches for comfort.

      • Would only be using this for running and possible hiking

        • I think the best solution is to go into a shop and put on a fore runner and a Fenix/epix. The weight on your wrist makes or breaks it.

          • @Wonderfool: Sorry, I meant I don't like watches for casual wear so I would be using this exclusively for running and occasional hiking. Is the extra money worth it for running/hiking?

            • @Jacko1235: The forerunner is better for running, it has a running coach app provided with it.

          • @Wonderfool: Which stores in your experience have them out for display/demonstration? The JB Hifi I went to the other day had the Garmin watches in enclosures and they weren't allowed to let you handle them.

  • Where does Venu 3 fit in to the Gamin line up? A bit confusing given so many watches

    • +3

I have the Venu 3 but bought the 955 for a relative.

The Venu 3 can be considered as more focused on being a smartwatch, with good activity tracking features, Forerunners are activity tracking watches primarily with good smart watch features.

There more to it than that obviously and if you're comparing the Venue 3 vs the 955, things like screen type, size, buttons vs primarily touchscreen interface, Advanced running Dynamics on Forerunner lineup all play a part. I paid about $530 2 months ago for my Venu and if you were to ask me is it worth ~$100 more vs the 955, I'd say no and I'd be happy to have gone with this deal if I had a choice.

  • I have the 965, and love the AMOLED display, with usage of gym, cycling and walking, usual battery lasts around 2 weeks with regular usage with full gps enabled.
The more you use it the quicker the battery will be used, any of the forerunner series is quite good, picking a size according to your wrist will be to check for.
Best to go and try out the watches at jbhifi, rebel etc to see what you are most comfortable with and what band suits you best too, which type of screen you prefer.

  • can this play music via spotify without my phone?

    • yes but u gotta set it up on the watch first. Need access to wifi and log into spotify on the watch initially and then u can download playlist to the watch.

    • Yes

  • I am in the Samsung Galaxy camp. and I have been using Galaxy Watch since version 3. Battery life always sucked, but they look nice. 5 Pro wasn't too bad, thanks to a larger battery, but it was a tad too bulky for my liking.

last drop was the 6 Classic LTE 47mm which even with LTE disabled sometimes wouldn't survive 24 hours, which is kinda sad since I wanted sleep tracking and it's not feasible to charge the watch twice a day, come on, this is getting completely crazy.

I was going to try Garmin, but found out that Samsung also has this Galaxy Fit3 smart watch. It was just released around October 24, and EPP was selling it for $89, not that it's much more expensive now.

I gave that a go and guess what. This has been my smart watch since then, not a single complaint.
    - lasts a week, usually longer
    - does everything I'd expect from a Galaxy smart watch - all notifications, weather, find my phone, buzzes when I walk away from my phone, steps, heart rate
    - very light and stylish, nimble - much more convenient for sleep tracking, and doesn't get int the way in the gym
    - has nice and bright AMOLED display

yeah it doesn't have a mic, can't take calls with just the watch, can't pay with it - but I never used that anyway.

maybe someone will find this info helpful. who like me doesn't need a super sports watch, just better battery life - looks nice, big brand, inexpensive.

  • +2

Been looking for a new bandana and this was a great deal

  • My forerunner 255 just got the dreaded white dead pixel in the middle of the display. This may be a worthy upgrade!

  • How are these as a smart watch, paired with an Android phone? A lot of the reviews are focused on fitness tracking (understandably), but I mainly want a decent smart watch with good battery life.

  • Looks like it's back in stock
