just saw the email too, crazy price!

  • That was quick, was about to post. Nice deal.

  • Crazy ! That looks like a superb deal.
I have Nikon Z50 (not a full frame) and it performs pretty well equipped with 40mm f2 lens

  • Dreaming of the equivalent Canon sale lol

  • +1

    Wow seems awfully cheap….am tempted….

  • 92MTEF8X47V76V - not going to use mine. comment once it's used please.

    • Mine's the same. Looks to be generic.

    • My code is the same…

    • +1

Cheers ok code not unique for once. lol.

      Updated op.

  • Recommendations for zoom lens for this?

    • Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm f/2.8 Camera Lens $799.50(jbhifi.com.au)

      Or

      for more reach - Nikon Nikkor Z 70-180mm f/2.8 Camera Lens - $10489.50(jbhifi.com.au)

Both look to be way under normal market sell price.

      • $10489.50

        Uhhhh…..

        • +1

Haha fixed in op (copied and pasted)

          Hate editing posts on mobile

  • The non-SE version (linked by OP) of the 40mm lens does look better on the FZ in my opinion. Better yet, book a trip to Japan and buy up some Voightlanders for very solid, quality lens to complement the FZ build and look.

Make sure you try this camera in store first to get a very good feel for it - the not-so-deep body and lack of grip makes it fiddly device to handle, especially when you're trying to control dials and need to use left hand to press play button etc.

With a 3rd party grip added, it is almost the same size and weight as the Nikon Z8. (1003g vs 1081g with the 40mm/f2 attached)

    • grip

I have heard good things about smallrig grips, and they look reasonably priced

      • +1

People seem to be happy with the Smallrig and Neewer grips. The weight i listed above is with Neewer grip

        • +1

I got a neewer battery grip for my a7iii , great value, I reckon they know what’s up.

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: +1 on the Neewer grips and in fact Smallrig grips. They are excellent. Neewer batteries are also good and provides excellent value. They actually put a USB-C charging feature directly onto the 'Z batteries'. Who would have thought?!

    • This is my exact plan in Japan. Only purchased the basic Nikon 40mm S/E f2 lens, but as soon as we land in Japan I want to pick up at least a 35mm voigtlander.

Do you have any other recommendations for some voigtlander lenses?

      • Will depend what you shoot.

Had the v1 versions of 35mm f2 and 50mm f2 for awhile. Used the 35mm a lot on the ZF and Z8 and enjoy it… just feels sublime.

Recommend visiting Kitamura in Shinjuku - the floor selling the new cameras/lenses is beautiful and the staff were very friendly.

Staff in most other dedicated camera shops avoided me like the plague :)
And whilst the Bic Camera/Yodabashi stores have Voightlanders in display cabinets, they never had any in stock.

    • +1

I recently bought the Zf and am running it with Z 50mm f/1.4 lens and SmallRig L-shaped grip. Total weight with battery, lens hood, lens filter, Peak Design points is just under 1.3kg. Low light performance is spec-tac-u-lar. The grip is necessary even with a 400g lens, but the ergonomics is not actually that bad. I think reviewers were expecting the switches to work like Fujifilm (A for automatic on ISO and shutter speed dials), but they don't - its Nikon method. the ISO dial has a "C", which means in-camera adjustment, but if you have AutoISO on, the top ISO dial becomes ISO min (when below max ISO set in camera) and then max (above max ISO set in camera). It actually works well, IMO. Black and white mode switch also rocks. I have a Z8, which is also excellent, but the Z8 is physically much bigger and really designed for big lenses. The touch screen focus control is also very cool (yes I know Sony and Canon have had that for years). Its a gem of a camera.

Just hoping something like this happens for Sony. I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

  • mmmmmmmm

    MMMMMMMMMMMM

  • -3

Terrible ergonomic design. Buy a regular z6 z7 if you gonna step into Nikon Ecosystem.
Or buy one put on the shelf gamble to resell later on.

    • Had one for over the year, the comments about bad ergonomics are over exaggerated.

    • Terrible take

Z6 and Z7 are on the old Expeed 6 processors and is the equivalent of telling someone to buy a 10th Gen Intel laptop

Zf has the same Expeed 7 as the latest Z6III, Z8 and Z9 bodies and with this discount, you can easily afford the Smallrig grip to fix the ergonomics

  • This is amazing. Just spent way too much money.

  • well…. shit…..

  • When I log in to my JB account it says I have no coupons available

  • Is this getting ozbargained? Stock starting to dry up..?

  • Wait… I purchased and I ALSO get a $200 JB Gift Card apparently?

    • Order got cancelled :( and unable to reorder.

      • Thanks for saving me 2k JB

      • Really?

      • +1

Thank god, I was about to crack lmao

  • I paid $4000 on launch day.

Though, I took so many good photos with it in the meantime.

    50% off is unreal.

  • Bought this camera about 3 weeks when Ted’s had a a bit of a promotion on it and got a $200 cash back. Initially purchased this as we are about to head to Japan. I’ve always been into my photography but haven’t owned a dedicated camera for almost 10 years. Absolutely love this camera but absolutely spewing that this deal has come up now. Paid $3,100 in total for my camera and the 40mm f2 lens. Very happy with it and would recommend to everyone. As some people have mentioned, the ergonomics aren’t great, but I’d say that’s the biggest drawback.

    • i thought my situation was bad when i bought the small frame version z fc but omg, you bought urs 3 weeks ago at 3100. thats unfortunate D: if it was less then 14 days u could've given it back due to 14 day trade back garuntee by teds

      • Unfortunately Ted’s would only allow an exchange and wouldn’t offer a refund (just had a quick sus at their T’s and C’s)

    • +1

On the upside you got the time between then and now to familiarise yourself with the camera so you’re ready to go when you land in Japan.

  • My order got confirmed (body + 2 lenses). I was actually in two minds about it and secretly wished it would get cancelled.

I'll have a play with the camera, if don't like it, can probably flip on Gumtree and turn a small profit.

    • What lenses did you go for?

    • +2

TIL that people still use Gumtree.

      • +1

They're dying a slow burn death

  • What Sony is this equivalent to?

  • I tried applying the coupon code on a Z8… it didnt work lol

    • the code mentions only selected nikon products :(

  • I just bought the nikon z fc at retail price for like last week for 1600… now this is on sale???

the world is mean to me… and my wallet.

im so tempted. or im wondering if this will happen again next year.

    • Assuming you bought the fc to use with DX lenses that you have already got, the full frame is not ready a substitute, you will get strong vignetting in all photos.

Even if you are prepared to buy new FX lenses, they generally cost more than DX lenses.

So you are buying into the FX ecosystem, you wouldn't buy a FX body just because it's on sale.

      • I thought that as long as it was a z series, it can be cross compatible with the dx lenses i have? what is fx? sorry, i'm very new to the camera world and the zfc is the first camera i got cause i loved the vintage look of it and wanted a camera for my japan travel soon.

        • +1

The Z mount is physically cross compatible, but the optics are not.

Putting a DX lens on FX body results vignetting.

Putting a FX lens on DX body result cropping (not as bad as vignetting).

DX is just Nikon's terminology for crop sensor, i.e. APS-C format.

FX is Nikon's terminology for full frame sensor, i.e. 35mm format.

          • @browser: i was planning to pick up the zf in future to pair with my zfc as i just love the camera's in gen/ their style.

i also luckily found that there was a sydney store that had 1 left, and ut it on hold. (was told to contact stores directly by online support to see if i can get hold of any )

rather pay 1.7k then 3.4k or even 2.5( sales on other stores) for the camera.

but i super appreciate you answering my questions and this advice. i will definitely keep it in mind. thank you so much for informing me.

  • Anyone else getting "Sorry, your item cannot be delivered to this address."

    • Yep, can't get it delivered or do click and collect either.

  • OOS?

    • Yep, just chatting with the online sales rep and they're all sold out now.
      Bummer.

    • darn. think so. scalpers

      • Yes dang, I waited too long

  • Crazy price! Only if I still shot Nikon.

  • Awesome deal. Was trying to check out on a Zf but missed out

  • Dont shoot Nikon and I dont intend on changing but dang good price on the Full frame

  • +1

    my 5c

I've shot with Z6 for a year, and this shares the same sensor. same as z6ii. same as Sony A7iii. it's the same sensor, so a bit dated.

but still a good sensor, these things age well.

personally I shoot Canon 6d mii even older sensor and output in studio is awesome, a tad noisy in the shadows outdoors. but battery life is stellar, and ergonomics are second to none. camera is easy to operate and comfortable to hold for hours on end, as opposed to mostly shrunk mirrorless bodies, including this zf

this zf sensor is also ok not groundbreaking or anything. form factor not superb for serious work. more of a tribute camera more than anything else. is ok with a 40mm lens but will look weird and handle uncomfortable with any serious optics

z6 had autofocus challenges, and I hear this does, too.

    • I still got my 6D (mark1) , haven't used for a while though. For travel I use my S23U mostly because of video resolution but I hate over processing, can't afford new cameras with 4k/60fps though, 6D only supports 720p/60fps or 1080p/30fps, even tried with magic lantern back then

      • 6d m1 you can safely sell it. problem with it is autofocus system. it sucks. just a few points optical, and unusable af in live view if you dare to use it. I shot with it for a year+ before going to 6d mii

mark ii sensor is surprisingly noisier (ffs canon) than 6d m1, but it's the perfect camera even today.

        • live view focus with Dual Pixel tech is reliable AF, Nikon Z6 was miles behind..
        • battery life leaves most mirrorless brothers far behind,
        • built like tank, weather sealed, has fully articulated screen for advanced composition, and EF lenses of L grade are cheap..

for instance, I recently picked up the legendary 135mm F2 L, the best portrait lens ever made, for like $700. have fun buying Nikon 135mm Plena for $4k

so I essentially got the best of both worlds combining ergonomics and build of DSLR but using it 99% in Live View like mirrorless lol

        • few points

Me: back in my day, we had 11 points af, if we were lucky

My kid: ok dad, back to the retirement home

    • af challenges

That’s a shame. My fav af systems so far still a7iii, or rx100m6 - af hits it every damn time, Sony got af tech down on lock.

      • +1

A7iii is miles ahead in terms of AF. I also shot A7iii cumulative for about 2 years. I bought the damn thing 3 times I swear. I made an effort to love that camera. it's a solid sensor, same as in Zf. but sold it on every single time. Sony colors aren't my cup of tea. and ergonomics. don't get me started

yeah we get it Sony you have your own design language and you kinda stick to it. but come on could we have a camera that's actually comfortable to hold for a change

        • ergonomics

yeah… i shoot it mainly with battery grip - and it feels weird without it, but by the time you add that , its a real chonky boi.

          colours

i agree…i usually shoot raw then go back and fix to taste in lightroom, dont have time to do it for casual stuff anymore though, so just making do with x-m5 which while is a pocket rocket and has lovely colours sooc jpg with the film sims , the AF is sooooo bad coming from an a7iii.

    • Incorrect about being the same sensor - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16058630/redir

Had the Z6 over 4 years than the ZF - yes the Z6 struggled with AF - but I got by with it. The ZF with the expeed 7, same as Z8 & Z9 improves AFC in my subjective terms, at LEAST 4x better than the z6 and plenty of reviews sayings it now on-par with it's competitors.

      • EXPEED is the pricessor. sensor as far as I am aware is the same

for instance Canon RP has Digic 8 processor, and 6d mii Digic 7. but they share the same sensor. sensor and processor are different things. there's only so much a processor can do differently with the same sensor output. usually the differences can be in autofocus and video output. color tweaks. stills will be the same, maybe processed faster, and larger buffer in newer processor. color tweaks don't mean a lot if you shoot RAW

check online, search for zf autofocus and see real world results. yes better than z6 but still not perfect. not on par with Sony A7iii. with the same sensor.

I didn't say it is the same autofocus performance as z6, just the same sensor. just the processor is different

Zf review: "As you'd expect with a camera that shares the same sensor as the Z6 II, image quality is excellent."
Z6ii review: "When it comes to IQ, we already knew that the 24.5MP CMOS BSI sensor in the Z 6 was a solid performer, and perhaps the only disappointment is that the Z 6 II doesn’t get something newer and a bit flashier."

        Zf sensor = Z6ii sensor = Z6 sensor = A7iii sensor

  • Can i use the lens with my Lumix S5?

    • Not sure if joking but no, at least not without some kind of adapter

  • Wow looks like they deleted it lol. Price error?

    • JB Hifi always deletes/suspends the page when it's sold out

      • TIL

    • Maybe they running out all the stock and simplifying range - they’ve all but exited m43 platform

  • I was told to go the retail shop and place an order. Just picked one up from JB HIFI Westfield Sydney.

    • As in just walk in to a store and ask to place an order?

  • Thanks god! Just sold out save me $2000😂

  • Dont think it work on Nikon Z fc as well, which is the one I'd like.

    • It’s only the ones I had listed (a mod edited my title)

  • glad this sold out lol

I'll keep using my fuji gear for now
