When Should I Look to Buy Flight Tickets to Europe?

Hello, I plan to do a 3 week trip to Europe (Sydney to X, preferably London, open to other cities in Europe) from early October to late October and want to know (date wise) when there usually will be airline sales?

Preference Premium economy / business class. Any assistance will be great, thank you :)

As far in advance as possible. They only get more expensive.

I dont know why this was negged - best tickets are always early bird fares at the 365+ day period. For peak periods (and for EU, October is still in that until half way when shoulder kicks in) it can be 10+ months.

OP - I would be looking now, especially if heading to Mediterranean climes. London prices should drop for tickets between Oct 13-21

    • Not always. If seats are not getting filled there would be more discounting /sale closer to October. But i dont have a crystal ball to be sure!!!

  • Outside of the absolute peak periods like easter and xmas you can start looking for sales 4 months before. This is only if you're not super specific about which airline to fly with.

When you have the spare time. I probably wouldn't do it at work as the boss might get upset. Personally, I'd probably do it on my phone while on the loo and kill two birds with one stone.

Best prices can be had 3 days before travel! That's when all the unsold tickets go on sale!

If flying to EU and looking at premium cabins, avoid flying out of London or Paris due to taxes. If you're traveling around the EU look at flying into one city and flying out of another on an open jaw ticket, eg fly into LHR but out of AMS, thus avoiding the UK's APD. But otherwise the earlier you book the better the pricing will be due to how advance ticket rates are structured. If you're trying to get a sale, who knows.

  • October is an off-peak month, so there are usually sales later in the year. But whether those sales match your required dates is - a pure guess.

It likely depends on how flexible your travel plans are.

Also, if you are traveling around Europe then consider an open-jaw (multi-city) booking, where you come back from a different city and thus have the option to avoid back-tracking.
