Get the Nova 5X if you don’t need dual playback as in Bluetooth music and gaming at the same time

    • +3

      Why the negs?

      • +2

        No idea hey
Was just pointing this out as the 5X is a newer headset with a better mic and the app which makes a world of difference for those who play on console

If you don’t need the dual sound at the same time then the 5X is a better headset

We all know the 7 will get this update but this current one isn’t as good as the 5X apart from having the dual sound feature which for me isn’t important as I don’t use it

        • 100% agree, have been looking into the 5x for a while just haven't pulled the trigger. Im now stuck between 5x and Corsair hs80 max..

          • @Demarcus cousins: I was in the same situation on a headset for my ps5 pro. Finally went with the 5X from Amazon and I’m happy with it

Was gonna get the pulse elite but this headset has too many issues that people rave about

I have some videos of the 5X mic in action if you wanna watch. Dm me if your interested or if anyone else is interested

            • @Twisty: the 5P is for the playstation. The 5X is for Xbox.
Anyway, the 5P is really good. But I did buy some new Soulwit ear cushions as the generic ones where sweaty and not very deep.

              • +2

@The Fixer: The 5X is the better version. It works on all but if your only using for Playstation then the P is fine

When it comes to buying headsets from SS make sure you always get the X version if you can and don’t mind the Xbox labelling

                • @Twisty: Why always get the X version over the P version?
I’m assuming, if you are gaming on PlayStation you should get P.
If you are gaming on Xbox you should get X.
If you are gaming on PC, I assume it doesn’t matter if you get P or X?

                  • @YeboMate: Xbox requires a special dongle, the X version has a switchable dongle to either use with Xbox or PC/PS.

There isn't any functional difference of PC and PS version.

If there isn't any price difference, getting the X version just means you're covered in future if you ever need to use on Xbox.

                    • @bamzero: Yer always get the X like me mentioned as it covers all platforms

              • @The Fixer: Where did you get them?
I was thinking about getting sound Gel cooled ones

                • @Twisty: Amazon. I have the Gel cooled ones. They fit better, have deeper cushions and are cooler than the stock ones.

    • I would agree, But for PC gamers its great for discord to change the volume or do these both have this feature?

      • Both have Bluetooth and 2.4 but only the 7 can do both at the same time

        • does that mean that audio playback of any kind (ie. in game sounds/music) will be very muddled? That's the issue right now with my Airpods Pro 2.

          • @dukeGR4: Not sure I’m not an expert but all I can say is the my 5X sound great playing games. I set the companion app to Fortnite and it’s great. Mic is decent too

  • +2

Everyone I've ever known to own these has mic issues. Give it a google before you buy.

    • do they know to turn off the sidetone? I have a pair and don't get complaints. It is perhaps a bit quiet though even with sonarr max'd

  • Just received the Novus Arctic 3. Great headphones. Pain having to use the program to adjust sidetone but it’s done now.

Steelseries used to be very good but started going downhill hard and fast after 2020. software and quality progressively got worse. i would guess they fought hard to build their reputation with quality and price, and once they had it they started to prioritise profit.

    • +2

was thinking about it, and wondered if they were bought out after 2019 potentially changing their direction of quality etc…… …… and what do you know…… it might be because SteelSeries was acquired by GN Store Nord in 2021

      • +2

Yes agreed, this latest generation of headsets have gone majorly downhill. Massive step back in build quality and software is utter trash. Check your local used market, you'll see even the Arctis Pro Wireless rotting for $250.

        • what is the alternative then?

    • +1

I had quality issues with Steelseries as far back as 2016 with their top of the line headset the Siberia 800, perhaps I was just unlucky but it was enough to put me off the brand completely. Doesn't surprise me to hear their quality control hasn't improved.

      • +1

I have the 800s and have micro disconnects every minute
In the market for new ones, and these are tempting, but given my experience and yours, thinking I might go new brand. Razer barracuda pro on top of the list

        • +1

Mine stopped connecting to the wireless receiver completely after only 1 and half years of use. And not to mention the rubber on the headband coming apart as well as the stitching on the earcups within only 6 months. Ended up having to use it as a wired headset which thankfully was even an option. Currently been using Corsair Void wireless for the last 4 yrs and haven't had an issue with them.

  • Bought a pair of these last month, ended up returning them a week ago. The frame creaked with simple head movements, kind of irritating, and others have the same issue online with various models.
It fit nice and all but the fact that it occurred not even a month into owning them is a concern, but maybe just got unlucky

    • I've had the Nova 7P for 2+ years and it doesn't creak so maybe is luck

      • Yeah I had the normal Arctis 7's prior, lasted 5 years before sound started dipping in quality, but different build too so probably just luck

  • Good headset for the price, mine has been great for 2 years. Favourite part is the battery life.

    • Likewise, battery lasts ages for me using it ~4hr a day. Audio quality is really good, coming from a pair of M50x. When I bought I checked a lot of reviews to find a wireless headset that didn't have a terrible audio curve

  • Uncomfortable with small earpads.

    Wicked Cushions aren’t much better.

  • Have owned a pair the last year and a bit (bought for $180 new), I hated the software and still find the earpads uncomfortable (too small). Audio quality is just okay, not my favourite sound profile for music or gaming. But love the mic and the easy mute button, the volume wheel is handy too.

    • were they actually the Nova 7's? I've never seen them that cheap. The Arctics 7's were

      • Yes, the Arctis Nova 7X. Seems like I got lucky, didn't even realise they were this expensive normally until later on

  • 7P is a bit cheaper at $237.73 and functionally the same. Few bucks more for the 7X at $249.60 gets you the switchable dongle for Xbox to cover all bases.

  • Has anyone got a decently cheaper priced pair that work with Nintendo Switch?? That allows in game mic but not through the app

  • Would this pair be fine for PC FPS gaming and occasional movie watching?

Been looking for a headset lately and seems like all flagship models (AX50 gen 5, Arctis nova pro and Audeze Maxwell) have issues and there isn’t a consensus on which Is the best.

    • As I was in similar position as you when I was thinking of purchasing a headset such as astros etc.

I pulled the trigger with the 7x for fps and love them in game and movies, been using them for 2 years and still going strong, I use them wirelessly with the dongle and can’t feel any delay in sound.

      I hope this helps you.

      • Bought it yesterday and got express shipping for next day delivery.

Received today and first impression it’s quite comfortable! Will try the sound and connectivity later today.

        • It is comfy, I tried astros etc and none of them were as comfy as these. I am sure they will please you mate.

  • The swivel/pivot design that attaches to the earcups is terrible. Its a common point of failure that will deteriorate and crack within 1-2 years of use.

    • over 2 years strong here
