Wi-Fi Ceiling Fan Switch Recommendations

I tend to turn on the reverse cycle air con at night, rather than turn on the ceiling fan for air movement, mostly because the air con is remote control beside bed and ceiling fan is switched by the door

Looking for a wifi switch that works with google home. (ANYTHING OTHER THAN WEMO)

I have WeMo light switches installed and they're nothing but issues and dramas and a waste of time and money. Absolutely useless.

Recommended ceiling fan light switch via wifi and eventually swap out all my light switches for WiFi version

Thanks

  • What sort of fan?
If it is the standard 3-speed AC type, you can replace the controller with this: https://sonoff.tech/product/diy-smart-switches/ifan04-l/

Comes with an RF remote, as well as wifi , for fan speed and light control.
There is a Tuya equivalent also.

    • I can recommend the ifan04! Just had two installed by a an electrician and am very happy with them.

    • Thanks
Standard 3 speed, (Off,1,2,3) on twist control.

      No light on ceiling fan.
I've got two seperate switch covers near the door, one for fan and the other for the ceiling fan

  • I have bought 3 of these Arlec ones from Bunnings and I am just pending them to be installed. No feedback yet, but when they are installed (should be the next week or so) then I can provide feedback.

    • Remember ozbargain license > electrical license

Feel free to install them yourself and report back earlier. 😉

      • Don't worry, has been tempting! But I'm getting some other electrical work done, so I'm just bundling it all together.

        • Biggest risk is falling off the ladder :)

    • Thanks, curling fan already installed.

Just looking for the swirch, rather than spending that much on a complete new fan

You can turn the AC into fan mode? But how about this

    https://www.australianlightingandfans.com.au/mercator-ikuu-s…

    or this

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/deta-grid-connect-smart-fan-spee…

assuming you have a AC fan not a DC fan.

    • a AC fan

      here…

      • You're boring jv….

          a DC fan

          here…

          • @jv: As useful as your comment, like always.

    • Standard AC Fan, but no light on the ceiling fan.
There's two seperate control covers near the door.
The twist fan control knob and the soon to be thrown out WeMo light switch/standard single light switch

      • Standard AC Fan, but no light on the ceiling fan.

That's ok, the ones above control lights as well, but you can leave the light switch disconnected.

    Wi-Fi Ceiling Fan Switch Recommendations

    Why not Bluetooth ?

Bluetooth has some advantages over Wi-Fi, including lower power consumption, lower cost, and lower risk of interference.

      Zibgee !

    • Why not atandard remote fan. Even less complexity, less risk of disconnect. No risk of someone hacking your network.

      • With Bluetooth though, you might be able to connect the fan to your headphones.

Why add the extra complexity of wifi. Just get a regular remote control fan. We have one in nearly every room. They are all reliable amd dont rely on the whims of your networkndeciding it needs to cut off the device and require 5 minutes of faffing around trying to reconnect. A fan is something you only need while you are in the space. There is no meed to control it from Prague.

    • +1

Why? Because he wants voice control. When I wake at night too hot or too cold, I don't want to get out of bed or even find the remote.

A fan is something you only need while you are in the space

Smart fan + temp/humidity sensor + presence sensor + Home Assistant = fan that turns on automatically when I enter the room on a hot day. 😎

      • Right.

Our fan remote lives on the bed head in the middle. Reach up, press one of 4 buttons. Its not hard to remember which of the four buttons that are easily felt for in the dark to press. Id rather find that button than be alert enough to speak loudly and clearly enough to probably wake others.

There is zero risk of a security exploit allowing access to the home network because there are multiple sensors and devices needed to do the thing that can be achieved with a single button press.

        • So you have zero IoT wifi devices on your network?
I just added a 2nd subnet on the router for them, so they can see the internet but not each other or my main LAN.
          Good enough for home security.

          • @bargaino: Correct. Zero iot devices. I dont want them. I dont see the need to add a layer of complexity to a switch.

Ive had too many headaches when things just wouldnt communicate and user friendliness was a bit ordinary. Maybe its a better experience now, but i figure the time spent trying to set up and get things working properly would be more than the effort of dealing with having to reach for a hard wired switch sometimes.
