  • Wow that's cheap

How does it compare with Pilsner Urquell on flavour, etc?

    • Probably closer to budejovicky budvar but being canned isnt as nice as bottled.

      • +3

Agreed re: Budvar. Praga is a perfectly good Central European-tasting beer. I picked up a slab with for this price last night and am feeling glad. In 375ml equivalence, it's under $40 for the slab.

    • +3

Lots of comments in the previous post about taste, origin etc.

    • -7

Pilsner Urquell is the king, nothing else comes close, especially this praga shite

      • -2

don't just neg if you can't handle the truth

        • -2

people just hate hearing the truth

          • @9hundred: trust me, praga is horrible because it's sweet, whereas PU is bitter the way beer should be.

        • That's your "truth" I guess.

          Others are entitled to differ.

    • +1

      Less hops, bit sweeter.
Pretty nice really. Easy to drink
Id pour it into a pint glass.

  • -1

Seems a in-house brand outsourced over seas..

    • I don't quite understand what you mean, but no.
      https://www.pragapils.eu/

      • Meaning they only produce it for export as it would not sell very well in Czech Rep.
Not saying it is bad for Aussie market, just that Czechs have specific expectations.

        • When your create the Pilsner style you have certain expectations, like you expect your Pilsner to taste like a Pilsner.

    • +2

Brewed for export, but still a very nice beer.

  • How does this compare to Henninger?

    • +4

      A lot better.

      • -2

        Otenger is better

        • +1

Better than Henninger, yes. Praga is the pick of the 3 in my opinion.

          • +1

@Spendmore: I might try Otenger. I've also enjoyed Paulaner from Aldi which I enjoy. I didn't even know German purity law was a thing. They taste great. Thanks 👍

        • +3

          Haha, Öttinger?

          • -2

@GerryManDerJan: yeah that one hahaha it's kinda decent, much better than praga which is sweet.

          • @GerryManDerJan: Yes that's the one. I was well off. School holidays with kids out all day and my wife WFH. I went through BWS on the way back from a day trip with the kids. I'm ready for one!

            • @SoTightEcoLPI: Just FYI, Oettinger is amongst the cheapest beers in Germany. When I came of age you could buy a crate of 20 * 0.5l bottles for 3,99 Euros.
              Don't remember the taste, lol

  • $51.20 for me here in Melbourne.

  • +1

I've had a can to drink last night..For some reason, there was a metallic aftertaste. Not sure if it's expected from a can beer, a particular batch or this brand is an issue.

    • Might not have been fresh and sitting in the can too long?

    • -2

Thats a can thing, you cant beat a bottle. This comes in bottles of 330ml but isnt as cost effective.

      • +4

Disagree, in-date canned beer shouldn't taste metallic at all, plus bottled beer is technically worse because you can get light struck whereas canned beer can't.

        • Bottled beer always tastes better than cans.

        • Bottles are only worse for the brewery as they cost more to buy and to ship. Convincing people to drink out of cheap cans is for cost savings. Nothing to do with improving the flavour, they make it worse.

    • I got this too, don't rate them personally.

  • +2

    Code not valid in SA

    • +1

Can use TAKE10 to bring it down to $54.00

      • Can only use take10 code 5 times in my recent experience.

  • Doesn’t summer start in December?

  • -1

Who made beer the king of summer?

    • +1

      Me

  • $51.20 for me in NSW

  • Ordered 2 for delivery here in Sydney and 1 got cancelled - worth a try at the price..

  • +1

    TAKE10 in SA

  • -3

    Taste is horrible

  • Got it, thanks OP
$50 for a carton of 500ml cans is great imo

  • Never tried this and no stores near me with stock… Is it still worth it for $60 ($10 shipping) 🤔

  • I got a message saying they can't fulfil the order so are giving a refund and $10 credit.

  • +2

Bought 4 boxes last time. No regrets. Lovely beer.

    • What else do you drink or if interest.

      No judgement, just analysis

      • +1

Honestly everything tbh. But for preference. My favourite is Kozel + Meggy sour cherry beer.

  • Its funny because i purchased the one from the last deal. That was 9/12 and it arrived yesterday. Click and Collect is the way to go if your lucky enough to have a store nearby.

  • +1

People comparing it to ottinger and hollandia is not very encouraging lol

    • It's more like Carlsberg :)

    • It’s much better, but you have to like Euro beers.

      • +1

"Euro" beers is not some genre, this beer is very lacking, European or not.

        • Not a genre at all, however many will dislike things that are not familiar with.

          • @Stewardo: Well, do you want to be more specific as to which style of European beer this one resembles?

            • @ubiq: I’m ok, I used to work for big brewery in the uk that sold and brewed beers under licence.
I’m not challenging your beer expertise.
I’m trying say that many beer drinkers in Australia like to session lager. Xxxx gold, great northern, corona etc.
If you give these drinkers beers made in Europe they will tell you it tastes like cats P$$s etc. because they don’t have the taste palate for euro malt and hops like saaz.

              • @Stewardo: It's alright, I understand what you are trying to say, I'm saying this beer doesn't have the malt and hops profile good beers have either, the fact that it's euro is irrelevant, oettinger is a german beer, that doesn't stop it from being a very poor beer

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got the last one at Salisbury QLD - "It's been very popular for some reason"

  • +4

    Think I’ll Czech this out

    • -1

      you will be so disappointed

      • -1

Definitely with an attitude like that 😊
