Samsung Care+-- Is It Worth It?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering Samsung Care+ for my phone and wanted to get some clarity about the additional benefits it provides. The details on samsung website are bit confusing.

Specifically, I’d like to know:

If my phone gets damaged, do they replace it with a brand-new, like-for-like phone, or is it repaired instead?
Are there any hidden charges, limitations, or exclusions that I should be aware of?
Would love to hear about your experiences with Samsung Care+—has it been worth it for you?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Samsung Care+— Is It Worth It?

    Yes

  • Answers to your questions are clearly written on their site: https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/samsung-care-plus/

swap your device for a new refurbished one for a one-time service fee.

We’ll keep your device working like it’s new for a one-time service fee.

1 Year Samsung Care+ plan: One Swap or one Mobile Refresh request

2 Year Samsung Care+ plan: Up to two Swap or Mobile Refresh requests

A service request fee applies when you request a Swap, Mobile Refresh or Good Working Order Value Trade-In.

    T&Cs: https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/assets/au/term…

If the technician determines that they can perform a Mobile Refresh, then it will typically take between 1 to 5 business days (excluding delivery times).

Whether it's worth it or not is subjective to each individual. Always going to be yes for some and no for others.

    • Whether it's worth it or not is subjective to each individual

Isn't that why they are asking us?

      • We can't make a determination on their perception of value on anything. Nor should they form an opinion based on limited anecdotal information from randoms.

10 people could say something is not worth it, but it is to me. Or vice versa. But I guess people just want to be spoon fed everything nowadays, including making personal decisions.

Maybe that is what the OP wants?

    • the new and refurbished are sort of contradicting? so with service fee, will i get a new device or a refurbished one?

      • will i get a new device or a refurbished one?

        Yes, you will

      • You will get new refurbished stock.

        • I don’t think you understand which is strange as it’s obvious, you can’t have “new” and “refurbished” in the same sentence, if something is “new” there would be no need to have it “refurbished”.

          • @Iwantthebestprice: Items refurbished to as-new condition. But they’re not new, they’re refurbished. You can have different grades of refurbishments.

            • @Hybroid: I agree with you they should say “as-new” I’ve never ever seen any listing or sale which has mentioned “new refurbished” I’ve seen as new, I’ve seen grade A, B, C etc and or minor cosmetic imperfections but never “new”.

Not worth it for me. Didn't need to use it for the 2 years. I ended up swapping the device in the 24th month just so I can say I used it. Received a device which looked new but had no packaging.

Didn't need to use it for the 2 years

Yeah but for that two years you had the peace of mind that if you DID need to use it, you could have.

That's like saying you've had car insurance for a decade but it "wasn't worth it" because you didn't have an accident.

    • House insurance is still worth it if you don't burn your house down, too.

  • These product care services are like a game of roulette. The manufacturers only provide the service because they know overall it will be profitable.

As a consumer, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It's completely unpredictable.

  • I dropped my fold4, and even though it was a small break on the small screen, it was going to cost $800+

Fortunately i puchased ot on my fold5, which fell a few times on the floor. Eventually the lower part of the main screen statue flickering, and got worse. My option was either to have it assessed, or pay $299 for an advance swap over, so i chose the latter option .

Yes it came in a plain box, by itself with a pre paid satchel going to Asurion? Once I was Happy with the replacement being fully transferred.

  • I will accept Samsung Care + when it comes for free with my device purchase. I won't pay extra as it offers nothing over my contents insurance

Send me the money and I'll care for your phone

  • With Apple care, they replace the demaged device with a new one I believe not a refurbished one?

    • No not always.

      Benefits
If Your Covered Equipment fails because of accidental damage from handling, Apple will,
subject to the relevant service fee either (i) repair the defect using new parts or previously used
Apple genuine parts that have been tested and pass Apple functional requirements, or (ii)
exchange the Covered Equipment with a replacement product that is new or comprised of new
and/or previously used Apple genuine parts that have been tested and pass Apple functional
      requirements (each, a "Service Event")

If you have a 28deg card you might have merchandise protection with that as well.

As everyone says, it really depends on you. If the activities you do have a risk of damaging your phone, it could be worth it. If you have home and contents insurance that covers it, it might not be.

I got it free with my phone and have only used it once ever. I was really glad I had it. My phone fell off my bike mount and cracked the back and would have cost a bomb to repair.

I lodged a claim on the Samsung Care portal and a replacement phone arrived the next day. I then had a week to move everything across and send the broken phone back to them.

The replacement phone looked brand new.
