  • How much are the refills

    • +1

6m roll for about $5. Make sure to buy the single-sided embossed dotted pattern type; otherwise, it will only seal but won't vacuum the air out.

      • +1

        Do you have link

          • @jimojr: Thanks for the roll recommendation. Have you used these exact ones from Amazon?

Just comparing to paying more for the ones from Kmart (which are a bit more narrow and 1m less per roll as well). Or looking at the 10 roll packs on eBay that are better value.

            • @kulprit: No, I haven’t purchased any of these yet because I still have the free ones. I did buy some from Nisbets 3 months ago for around $2.50 each, but they can only be sealed and won’t vacuum the air out.

              • @jimojr: What additional benefits does vacuum bring?

                • +2

                  @lily99:

                  1. Vacuum sealing removes air, which slows down the growth of bacteria and mold, allowing food to stay fresh 3-5 times longer than traditional storage methods.
                  2. Prevention of Freezer Burn
By eliminating air, vacuum-sealed bags protect food from freezer burn, maintaining its texture, flavor, and nutritional value.
                  3. Retains Freshness and Nutrients
Vacuum sealing locks in the natural moisture, nutrients, and flavors of food, making it ideal for preserving fruits, vegetables, and meats.
            • @kulprit: I'm using the kmart ones - works pretty well. Personally stay away from plastics from China that come in contact with food (yes, I know the Kmart ones probably also come from China, but at least you have some expectation of quality control)

              • @askvictor: That was my thought as well compared to eBay ones, but not sure on the Amazon. They are a 34rd party seller so probably the same.

                • +1

@kulprit: Yeah, I generally wouldn't trust that kind of stuff from Amazon. Maybe if it's "sold and shipped by" Amazon

              • @askvictor: It is already 2025, not 1980, people are still looking at the sky from the bottom of a well.

              • @askvictor: lol Kmart and Quality Control, not sure if those 2 phrases are compatible with each other in the same sentence.

                • +2

@lplau: Trust it more that Aliexpress generally. The main difference being, Kmart is an Australian legal entity, so there is someone to sue.

                  • @askvictor: Sadly with the Australian legal system it allows Australian Retail entities to get out of jail. If there is something wrong with the product they will just go "Oh we didn't know….. we will issue a recall". They walk this thin line all the time.

            • @kulprit: I use them as I regularly buy to pack meat after my Brother butchers a Steer or Lamb. We go through a lot of these, they are not the best (sometimes wrinkles which can make vacuum sealing difficult), but value for money wise they are hard to beat.

              • @gromit: Same, if i see a wrinkle i would usually do the seal process twice. Wrinkles for me usually appears towards around last 25% of the roll.

              • @gromit: Thanks Gromit, that's the Kmart or Amazon ones,

                • @kulprit: Amazon ones, I wouldn't touch anything from Kmart with a forty foot pole, my experience with what they supply is complete low quality garbage. The Kmart ones are also expensive for what they are.

PS: I have also done the Aliexpress ones, I found the quality to be very hit and miss, sometimes so many wrinkles that they were almost unusable so the money saved wasn't worth the pain.

                  • @gromit: Thanks again. Do you sous vide in them or just seal and freeze?

                    • +1

@kulprit: I have a sous vide but still in box until new house is ready lol so have not used yet. At moment I just seal and freeze.

          • @jimojr: are the amazon ones compatible with VS03 ? thnx

            • @sticky8anana: I have had sunbeam/aldi/foodsaver and another brand I forget the name of over the years as we heavily use for meat. They all use the same bags/rolls interchangeably. I can't imagine the Inkbird one would be any different.

  • Got this for Xmas and loving it

  • That does seem to be a good price! I paid $69 back in November damn it. :(

  • +1

I also got this over the Anova which was double the price, its a good unit, very very good indeed
After coming off a 4 year old Aldi one, its fantastic
Cheap bags of Amazon did the trick for me.

  • The sous vides are also on sale. Just got the isv-200w model down from 139 to 69,
    Mainly to do yoghurts

    • To do yoghurt?

Doesn't over 60c kill a lot of the good bacteria?

      • 44°C for 12 hours.

        • The specs say…
Temperature control range: 32℉~194℉( 0℃~90℃), temperature accuracy: 1℉/0.1℃.

The L.reuteri yoghurt is 37c for about 36hrs.

Thinking if the sous vide can hold its temp as accurate as the specs state then it will work great. Plus you have the flexibility of having the sous vide.

  • awesome =) THANKS OP

Would love to use these but I don't like heating plastic on my food, so I use silicone bags. Not quite as good!

  • I have this, it works well.

  • Ordered. Thanks OP

        So countdown timer?

      • +2

The little window is super useful you can see through to make sure the bag is in position

        • Is it $10 useful?

          • @Bruceflix: Not sure how you quantify usefulness but $10 it's a no brainer for me.
I would have chosen the 03 version if it hadn't been twice the price of the 02 when I bought it ($59 vs $110 ish).

  • +1

Thanks for this OP, I've been looking with a vacuum sealer with a roll holder built-in but went for the VS03

  • Can you get the refills cheap?

  • +2

I have been using the ISV200 for a year now (almost daily) to cook steaks, but just with slide bags. What is the benefit (if any) of using this machive vs slide/zip lock bags for sous vide?

  • Interested. The recent reviews suggest a 50% early failure rate, anyone know how Aldi's (infrequent) offering stacks up?

  • Happy with an Aldi special, they dropped it to $20 at the end of the fortnight.

  • $50 is a great price for this. This tutorial is excellent for sous vide steak: https://youtu.be/q21O515OLxU?feature=shared

  • Sous vide is the best method to increase my plastic intake.

  • Fark! Geddit!

  • I would prefer this one for $10 more. upgraded specs

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0BZ821YRW/ref=ox_sc_ac…

    • By upgraded specs you mean it has a countdown timer and a "window".

      • +1

I can understand the benefits of a window. I can't imagine what a countdown timer brings to the table though.

That said, an additional $10 is pretty good for those added features…

        • I suggest you research before posting.

          VS02 - Product dimensions 37.3 x 15.5 x 7.9 cm
          VS03 - Product dimensions ‎40 x 16 x 8 cm

          • @Bruceflix: he read the chatgpt generated summary and didn't actually check the product descriptions anywhere

          • @Bruceflix: Sorry, I have the wrong dims, but that doesn't mean I didn't research. Amazon had the wrong dims listed and the same for this comment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863361#comment-15642086

            • @Quickshot:

Amazon had the wrong dims listed

That's where I got the product dimensions from.

But to suggest you did research? So you looked at a picture of the VS02, then you looked at the incorrect dimensions, did not notice any inconsistency with those figures, looked at VS03 dimensions and thought, this is half the size yet somehow looks almost identical. I know, I'll go with a chatgpt summary.

  • This is a good deal on a sous vide if spontaneously purchased a vac seal now want to maximize usage.

    Inkbird ISV-101W (latest model)
    $72.07 delivered ($160RRP) after JAN15OFF applied

    Currently $99 at Amazon.

ISV-200w is another option, quieter and doesn't have auto shutoff $72 @amazon

  • Been looking to get one of these, is this better than the Kmart one?

  • I have the Anova (love it)
Has anyone found a use for the "vacuum hose" ? Anyone got a source for compatible boxes/containers?

  • -2

Peeps, please think of the environment and avoid using one-time use bags and rolls. Using containers and reusable vacuum zipper bags is a more OzBargain way as there is no/less ongoing costs. I have been using FoodSaver vacuum sealer system for years but only use it with their containers

    • Care to elaborate how to sous vide food in a container?

      • Sorry I'm afraid it's inapplicable to sous vide, but you can try using silicon pouch. I understand silicon is safer than plastic for heating/cooking. It may take longer to get similar result tho

  • Are those bags any good for coffee beans to be freez ?

    • They are good for coffee but a bit wasteful. Zip lock bags are resuable and will work just fine, just get as much air out as possible. Coffee is very low in moisture after roasting.

  • Enjoying my vs03. Steaks are so good also salmon and chicken breast
