  • is there a monthly fee?

    • +7

No, they just take a percentage of all the sales you put through.

    • +4

no, I believe it's 1.6% per transaction after using up the $5000 fee free offer

      • Not bad

      • +2

Just pass it on to the customer but don't tell them beforehand
Let them find out after paying

        • +8

Yup, they’ll love you for it

          • +2

@Lps: They do, try telling them before and see how you go versus after. Nobody appreciates honesty.

            • -1

@plmko: best way is just put a neat little sticker on the reader. if you mention it, they'll think of it as a much bigger deal than it is. if they see it on a sticker and then make a song and dance about it, they are probably not the kind of customer you want repeat business from anyway.

        • +3

This is now becoming the norm at bakeries etc.

          • +3

@tunzafun001: Bakeries and sandwich shops are always there to rip you off, they never put the price on anything. Have to find out what you're paying after you ordered or awkwardly have them go through 5 items in the display case and correct them on which one you were pointing to so they can tell you the price.

            • +9

              @Agret: My fav was yesterday.
Got a potato pepper pie (on board for $5.90).
              Get charged $6.20.
Look at receipt $6, Sauce $0.20

              I say, oh I didn't get sauce.

She says, we just add that on.

I say, might as well get the sauce then.

She says, no, we add the 20 cents for the potato, not the sauce.

I give a bit of a stare and a head shake ..like a disapproving Dad . . Realise this could go back and forth all day.

Haven't even raised where the extra 10 cent charge came from - likely said card fee…

              Classic bakery Maffffffffs

Gov should make a law like GST. Make everything included in the price. Surcharges should only be for credit cards. Debit/eftpos should be exempt.

          I hate the hidden fees.

          • +6

@NeoX: I have seen an increase in the number of establishments charging a "weekend surcharge" instead of just a "Sunday surcharge".

Yes you have to pay your employees more on a Sunday but you have 10x the customers in that you get on a weekday idk why these surcharges exist. Charging extra on a Saturday is just taking the piss.

          • +2

@NeoX: Me too. I've started inserting my card to force EFTPOS. Takes longer but less fees. Also allows you to review the amount instead of just blindly tapping.

          • @NeoX: It's coming … but unlikely to become legislation in this term of government

      • +1

By the time the gov bans on the surcharge, they need impose a monthly fee I guess to keep the service.

        • By the time the gov bans on the surcharge

Gov has already regulated surcharging on digital transactions back in 2016-2017 from memory.
Payment providers are allowed to charge a 'reasonable' fee as they are providing a service. Fee for service (or goods) is how all business works.

Legit question, can I spend my own $5000 to get free cc points?

        • +2

I like where you're going with this

        • is it Taxable income ?

          • @jayzlolz: Wouldn't be income surely… The Citi Payall churn would be brutal if this were the case

        • Yes - it’s probably more effort than it’s worth but can get $5k manufactured spend this way. I guess add the wife, kids, uncles etc and could go further…

    Have to be 18 :(

Not getting free reader on checkout

  • Thanks op, ordered a free one

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks, got a free reader!

  • +1

No good for cashing out prepaid credit cards, the reader doesn't read magnetic strips.

    • Can we link the prepaid credit cards to NFC mobile wallets?

      • Not the ones regularly get bonus rewards points.

  • My own square reader is on the way out. Time for another one.

  • Does this need an ABN as part of signup?

    • +1

No, says it’s not compulsory. Just select a low annual sales figure I guess.

      • I didn't know that it is optional, I put it in anyway.

        • +4

          Now the ATO ownz you

    • -2

      Yes it does

      • +1

No it doesn’t, I just did it lol

      • Yes it does

Also can verify that ABN is not compulsory, but you do need to put in your business name

  • +1

    Wow great find OP!

  • +2

I have a crypto.com Credit Card, what is stopping me from maxing this prepaid physical card with $30,000, then making 5% back on that each month? Netting me 3.4% profit, $1020 each month???

    • Don’t you need to pay income tax on all income from that Square reader?!

      • I don't think so as I'm not making any income as it's funnelled in and out to myself, the cashback from the CC is non taxable!

        • -3

as it's funnelled in and out to myself

Also known as money laundering. This will get detected at the bank and you'll get a phone call to warn you of your illegal activity before they close all of your accounts.

          • @1st-Amendment: Nah mate, where do you get that concept of laundering? Unless you don't have legitimate answer to the source of money you have nothing to worry about.

            • +1

@lgacb08: You have declared this as a income but of course you also declare that as a cost. ATO has all figures processed by EFPOS machines.

    • Subtle flex(?) to say you have the 5% card which requires $400k USD locked up

      • +2

Hey mate, the CC program had an update!

They increased the tier costs, changed rewards, added a new tier: https://crypto.com/us/levelup

        • Wait so you have $70k AUD of CRO staked? Holy Shitcoins Batman!

What's the monthly benefit roughly equate to for you?
          - 5% of spend in cashback ($250-$500 per month maybe?)
          - Spotify & Netflix ($40 per month?)
          - 8.5% interest on your $70k ($500 per month)
          - Airport Lounge Access

          You recommend it or nah?

All depends on what CRO does I suppose. (profanity) that's a risky way to make $1k per month although you've probably done amazing out of it the last 12 months

    • You'll almost certainly be banned due to abuse of card promotions.

Also you don't know what MCC this goes through as so aren't guaranteed the cash back.

      • +2

Abused it, along with CryptoSpend (before they removed it) with Super carry forward contributions, hecs repayments, was so worth it!!

  • -5

Signed up - not sure what will use it for - yes you need an ABN

    • No you don’t 🙄

    • You don't need an ABN. It is optional for casual users.

      • -1

The signup required to enter an ABN

Edit: ok, as long you don't focus onto the ABN field then it won't validate and prevent from go to next page

        • No it didn’t, read it properly.

  • +6

    stuck at verifying identity

    • +1

      same

      • Thought I'd try and also got stuck here…

Verifying your identity. This may take a minute.

  • Can you verify with a medicare card

    • Yes

      • Got one. Free $5000 cash advance lol

        • Do that with Amex, and let’s see what happens to your card 😆

          • @T-man: AMEX need another account - you have to open an account with AMEX in order to process.

          • -2

@T-man: Citibank, then they give me 3 to 6 months interest free (not setup fee) loan

  • Diddnt want to accept my passport but worked with medicare card

  • Can this be combined with the referral $1000 link?

  • +1

Verified and bank linked but no free reader

  • Thanks OP!

    Got one for the business.

I went through as a Company so it did require the ABN and ACN. No issues with the process + getting the free reader.

That $329 reader looked pretty sick. Which that was free lol.

  • went through after a lengthy process.

  • +1

Unless you run a business / service (for which you need to take card payment) why else would you need this?

    • +1

      Markets

      • Please elaborate on what you mean by "markets". It's a general term.

        • +4

          Market stalls, (trash and treasure)

          • +1

@lothus777: Thanks. Makes sense. Easy way to run a garage sale.

        • The kind where you sell your unwanted/no longer needed/stuff you made/plants you propagate/xyz, items to other people

    • -4

Free $5000 cash advance. Should be able to at least double it in 60 days interest free period

      • +1

  • Part time uBer driver here… this will be handy!

  • +1

I dont see anything free. Verified

  • +1

Can this be used to meet credit card spend requirements for bonus points?

    • +1

Probably, best to read up on the T&C's though..

  • Thanks OP!
My Gen 1 reader recently died. Had hardly been used and stored in original box for years, but just wouldn't connect. Even after all the troubleshooting. E-Waste I suppose :|

  • +2

The pan handlers could really use this. They ask for spare change, but far less people carry change nowadays. With this, they can start saying, "Can you tap me $2?" (without the 'Better Off Dead' $2 attitude).

  • Does anyone know if it's $5000 every 180 days or just a once off? And as soon as I signed up, it's prompting me on a referral program, if I refer a friend, do they only get $1000 fee-free bonus and miss out on the $5000?

    • I just had a look at the link and it looks like you can't get referral program, the signup token from this deal is better than referral sign up token.

  • Has anyone used this for those credit card bonus programs?

  • +1

so i get this, only to never use it again, and its still free? and still no monthly fees?

And what business name do you use? Anything?

  • Planning to get one to collect fines at the footy club for the end of season trip.

  • When does the 180 days start? From purchase, or first use?

And does the referral $1000 stack or xtra 180 days?

  • +1

I have signed up and got the email for the $5,000 but not sure on how to order the reader? anyone got it?
