New Tyres Needed - Michelin Primacy 4 for Camry

Time to replace the tyres on my trusty ol' Camry.

Was convinced by Bob Jane to go with Pirelli last time around and to be honest, have always hated it.

Have done a bit of research and thinking of going with the Primacy 4, got Mycar to price match it with Costco.

Been quoted $229 per tyre fitted - and another $89 if I wanted wheel balancing alignment, so $1,005 in total.

Is this a fair price? Anyone got experience with the Primacy 4, or any other recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

Got them installed for my Tesla M3, can't fault them.

    • How was the pricing for you?

      • +1

$1500 installed through tyresales thought they were good value considering the original lasted 65k km with regular rotations. They are 18" though.

        Just do it.
        Tyres are a safety issue.
        Not a money saving issue.

If you want to get other quotes just google it.
But Costco is usually well priced if you want a generic answer

and another $89 if I wanted wheel balancing

I think you spelt wheel alignment wrong

Ah yup.. that dang uh.. autocorrect

I got some Primacy 4s for my Aurion (215/60/R16) for $175/tyre fitted at Costco in October when Michelin had a cashback (instant discount) deal. Alightment etc had to be done elsewhere.

There is currently a gift card deal but it's not as good as an instant discount.

  • what tyre size are you?

      that's a bit rude…

JV , "you've done it again".

  • +1

Fluxing how much for balancing?? Are they seriously going to fit tyres without balancing them? Or did you mean "alignment"??

    • Yup, meant alignment haha

      • +2

Was going to say that price sounds about right for an alignment but not balancing

The price is probably as good as you’re going to get now. Only other place I’d cross reference it with is Tempe Tyres.

        • Tempe Tyres got the Primacy 4 ST (which I believe is newer.. supposed to be quieter?) for $5 more per tyre… Might go with that instead.

Though they don't offer the same free rotation every 6months though..

Consider also Continental UltraContact UC7 $664 for a set via tyresales.com.au, quite similar to Primacy 4

    • For that price it will be hard to look past.

Continental make some very good tyres.

    • Definitely would take the Conti over the Michelin at this price. It's only a Camry after all.

      • Earlier today the price was $664 but now $774

        • The buy 4 discount got removed it looks like.

        • aw damn, snoozed and lose..

Still though 774 seems pretty good..

        • Talk about snooze and lose tyresales has completely shut down

      • only a Camry after all

I demand pistols at dawn for this unforgivable insult to the mighty Camry

        • I'll be attending on behalf of Continental

      • It's only a Camry after all

        Fighting words in these parts

Primacy 4 are actually a better tyre,I have used both brands over many years,Michelin all the way.

  • Why hate the pirelli?

    • It was always noisy, always made really loud squeak sounds when I'm in the car park at low speed, it's like the rubber is really sticky especially on slick car park surfaces.

      • Which model Pirelli were they?

      • i have bridgestone ecopia and they have the same sound

  • +1

Hrd to say without knowing the size. Have a look at what Tempe Tyres are charging, that will be a good indicator.

  • Pilot Sports, always ran them. Wet grip is phenomenal.

    • Great tyre!

    VVTi kicked in, yo

  • Compare against pricing for the Bridgestone Serenity Plus. They can usually be had on a buy 3 get 1 free deal every other month. I had the Primacy-ies on a Mazda 3 and then swapped to the Serenity Plus because they were a better price at the time I needed tyres and I can't fault them.

The Michelin Primacy 4 or 4 ST are the better tyre. The Continental UC7 are also a very good tyre that perform well but, while theres not much difference, they're not quite as good as the Michelins.
Although, for every day driving, you probably wont notice much difference.

  • Make sure the tyres are not 12 months old and sitting in the warehouse.

Well.. this just in.. Tyresales is closing down as of.. today.

Just went on their site and saw the notice.

    • +3

They just needed you to purchase a set of tyres from them yesterday to stay afloat.

The blood is on your hands OP

      :P

  • Just ask for 4 tyres from a well known brand. There always a tyre from these brands on special. Either buy 3 and get one free or a discount on all 4. Between the well known brand the performance should be accepted for a Camry.

Just make sure its not the budget version of the well known brands or a unknown brand. If you ask for cheap the tyre store will have a tyre for you but may not be the best option for you. You may want to ask for the best deal or value for money option. Also avoid the sports tyre unless your running a turbo or supercharged Camry.

Saying that you may want to go directly to a manufacturer outlet to get the road hazard warranty. For example if you want to get Bridgestone if they have a deal on.

Michelin tyre is the second French thing you can have it. Energy MX2+ cheaper than primacy but it is an excellent tyre. The first one is a redhead who actually can have you.

    • +1

My late fathers Mazda2 Genki(2005) which my daughter now owns, has just had her tyres replaced with another set of XM2+,previous set got over 80,000kms,probably could have got have got more mileage out of them though.

  • Update: Got Bob Jane to match/beat Tempe Tyres.

Ended up with Primacy 4 ST for $230 each, fitted and balance.

    Booked in for Saturday.

    Thanks all!
