Aragon DF-47 NH35 Auto Dive Watch US$123 (~A$203) Delivered @ Aragon

330

24-hour flash deal from Aragon Watches. I had one of these and it’s a really solid, well-built watch, and the texture of the crater dial is really very nice - the photos simply don’t do it justice. I’ve since passed it on to someone who asked me just before the holidays if they could buy it so they could use it for - SHOCK! HORROR!! - diving. They liked the legibility of the yellow colourway and the crown is large & chunky, making it easy to grip under water wearing gloves (edit: as pointed out below don’t operate the crown under water). It’s a big boi however the rubber strap is soft and very comfortable.

Comes in two colourways:

  • Clicked on link says $88 us. Sale price

Price in title reflects cost of shipping, too, which has always been US$35.

      • On each item? What if I buy 3? Probably better to reflect shipping price separately in title.

Edit: appears to be on each item

        • +2

Yes, it’s each item, hence why I put the total price in the title.

  • What's the sapphire refer to?

    • +1

Mea culpa - I didn’t read the specs carefully enough and assumed it was sapphire crystal, but it’s not. Title is fixed now. Apologies for the mistake.

  • +3

Beautiful watches but 47mm - large dinner plate on my puny 6.3 inch wrists, such a shame, would have purchased otherwise,

    • +2

i'd need to wear it across both my wrists … stylish handcuffs .. lol

      • Bed time fun with time available view for your consideration

  • +3

    Case Thickness: 15mm

    That's thicc

    • +5

Case size 47mm is big too.

      The Frogurt is also cursed.

      • Potassium benzoate.

so they could use it for - SHOCK! HORROR!! - diving.

    Impossible

    • +1

I know! It’s one of those urban myths, right up there with the one where people purportedly use their garage to park a car in it.

      • +1

that's not where you put unused gym equipment?

    • To weigh you down

  • +1

I have the Divemaster 42 NH36 in yellow. Very happy with it and it was only US$109.00 plus US$35 shipping back in October 2024 (currently US$149.00).

  • +8

the crown is large & chunky, making it easy to grip under water.

Why would you need to use the crown underwater? As soon as it's unscrewed underwater the watch is knackered.

    • +3

Fair point. Bad choice of words? Probably should’ve said ‘wearing gloves’. Can you tell I’ve never done diving before? Not even a fan of watersports full-stop.

  • Is this something like Bulova

    • Not sure what you’re asking here. If you mean build quality then I’d say it’s on a par or better than Bulova at the same price point.

      • really.. hmm.. haven't heard of "aragon" but my impression of them is like those Fossil watches

Bulova have a long history in watch making

        • +1

Surprisingly, they’ve been around since 1991. I’d say they have outgrown ‘microbrand’ and have moved into ‘independent watch maker’ territory, but I do like how the founder, Wing, is still actively designing and takes a frontline role in running the show.

        • Aragon get compared more to Invicta than anything else. Not sure about comparisons to Fossil, haven't heard that before lol.

          • @martygeeoz: Fossil mostly appeal to young people.
            Dress watches, smart watches.
You see them in Australia everywhere.. JB hifi, Myer..

            • @ChaLuo: Yeah like Emporio Armani and such. I actually thought Bulova was another dress watch type brand like Fossil when I first heard about it, didn't realise it had such a long history. Wouldn't mind one of their re-released Oceanographers or the chronographs based on the watches they released in the 70s.

  • +1

It looks like it was designed by Elon Musk

  • Hope the consideration for passing on the watch (for the purpose of diving) was … a rock lobster freshly plucked from the sea floor!
    ;-)

    • +1

Heh. Not so lucky, but a sum of $$ was exchanged commensurate with value.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I've had my eye on a different model and to my surprise, it was on sale too.

  • The blood red one is quite nice i must admit. Shame about the case 47mm size as previously mentioned.

  • +1

Haven't ever heard of these guys before - they look like nicely designed watches. This one is too big for me, but it looked like they have some 40-42mm models as well. Quality-wise, how would they compare to say a Citizen or lower-end Seiko?

    • +1

Very good. I’ve bought two, this one and another in titanium, and both have been excellent. I don’t know if the movements are adjusted but they were both +/- 10 seconds or so per day straight out of the box, and the lume is quite good.

    • +1

Better components/specs for less $. Their metals bands are better overall too, solid clasp, not as jingly and cheap.

  • 47x15mm. Thing is a tank, and not the Cartier kind.

  • Son of Arathorn

  • Kick this one and you WILL break a toe.

  • They do have smaller options, down to 42mm and even 40 (I think). Personally I have around a dozen or so Aragon's and even though I'm biased I think the value of these watches is amazing if you are on a budget and don't want to go to Aliexpress. Wing (the owner) really does his own thing as far as designs go and I've picked up some of his meteorite dials, the titanium Miyota 9015 diver and even the tourbillion (yes a Chinese movement but don't care) at prices I doubt I'd get anywhere else. Yes some of them are big but that's how the brand started with larger size watches and he's been gradually coming out with smaller watches.

I have two of these skeles (https://www.aragonwatch.com/CLEARANCE_s/427.htm) which are great value for NH70/NH72 movements and they look good too - 42mm at US$154.

    • …the titanium Miyota 9015 diver…

Was this last year’s Mystery Box? I kicked myself for not getting one but when it was released I’d just gone through a buying binge so was trying to be strong and not buy another one. I’m seriously tempted by this year’s, though, an all ceramic model in both 44mm & 50mm. I’ve always wanted a ceramic, Mrs C has one and I like how smooth & light it is.

      • Yes it was - the only mystery box I've ended up keeping admittedly. The mystery boxes tend to be more miss than hit for me, but I couldn't pass up that movement at that price, and fortunately the watch is an absolute banger. Got the full lume dial one, although admittedly lume is Aragon's achilles heel.

    • They look really good and the designs are attractive. It's a pity that the Aussie dollar is in the toilet at the moment but you reckon there's still good value in them even at the present conversion rate?

      • +1

Value is kind of a subjective thing, I wouldn't buy them if you were ever hoping to resell them one day at a profit. But Aragon are one of those brands that 'do their own thing' and the only watches I've ever been asked about what I'm wearing have been my Aragons. I genuinely enjoy wearing them, I have two Seikos but most times its an Aragon I reach for. You can even Paypal in 4 and pay it off. Good movements, good specs, better than an equivalent value Citizen or Seiko. I have only ever had an issue with one watch I've owned (a sticky crown that seems to be peculiar to that particular model which you can no longer buy) but the rest have been rock solid. I have a 6 3/4" wrist so I stick to the 42-45mm.

        • +1

Thanks for the insight. My wrist is a similar size, so generally my personal preference for max size is around 42mm or 50mm lug to lug. There are a few sale watches going at the moment, I might test the waters and grab one. My Orient Mako II just died recently so maybe one of their dive watches would be a good replacement for now.

  • Almost big enough to use as a wall clock

  • +2

I have two Aragon watches and they are both wonderfully well made. I wear the 40mm all the time. The 45mm I am probably going to sell as it is just too big however. It's still smaller than this watch. Wouldn't recommend getting one this large unless you have well above average size wrists.

    • +1

Or wearing over a wetsuit… as intended for dive watch.

      • Perhaps that would help a bit with the size but the one I have is also much heavier and bulkier than other 45mm watches I've had or seen.

  • I've owned an Aragon Dive watch and found it to be very reliable.Mine was automatic which was a feature I liked.
