What are some of your favourite hacks and loopholes that work in 2025?
Here are some of mine.
1. Getting more street parking spots in particular locations
I'm tired of people parking on the street leaving huge gaps in between the cars especially if it's outside your place.
I saw a video on this and decided to give it a try. I got fluro masking tape and then measured the parking spots to AS standards and taped the areas where they should have park in. Happy times! The next day, the cars were all beautifully parked within their respective spaces allowing more cars to fit in there. You can also do this with Chalk.
Doesn't always work but it helps nonetheless. Mod note: Altering road markings, even when not permanent, may not be legal or within local guidelines. Consult with your local council first.
2. Using generous new account / user promos from other countries
This is a game changer as you can get free or discounted travel, groceries, food and services etc.
When a multinational company is running a generous new user promo in Australia or another country. You can sign up with a new phone number from that country using cheap OTP services under a new number and email and then receive the new user bonus on the new account where it can also be used in Australia or wherever you intend to travel to.
Some of the accounts can receive $20, $40, $60 and even $100 in credit each or new user bonuses but use as your own caution as your main account can be restricted.
Some people are selling these and offering services or accounts at a discount of 50%+ so they do all the work and you just buy the services/goods off them. That's all I'm going to share regarding this.
3. Using sodastream for sparkling water and soft drinks and mixers
I used to buy lots of canned sparkling water and soft drinks deals from Ozbargain and sometimes at retail price when I'm out of stock. Ever since I've gotten a Sodastream, it's been a game changer. Combine it with Hack 2 and you get free or very cheap Sodastream refills when the promos are running.
I'm still looking for a cheap place to refill these in Sydney for $10. But you can get it refilled in other cities via third party businesses for $10 or DIY with a CO2 tank but I'd rather not DIY.
4. Free YouTube premium, Spotify and others using Modded Apps
There's plenty of modded apps for anything like YouTube and Spotify. Just download setup and go. These apps also offer additional useful settings. I haven't bought Spotify or YouTube premium for years. Warning: Use at your own risk as your login details could easily get leaked.
I'm currently running the following:
Instagram - Instander (no ads and additional privacy settings)
YouTube - Revanced (no ads, skip in video promos etc.)
Spotify - Spotify X (no ads and can choose songs)
Facebook - Revanced (no ads)
5. Disposable payment methods
There are a variety of providers that allow you to use virtual disposable payment details to prevent ongoing subscription renewals, special charges or risk getting card details stolen. I use a variety of Revolut, Upbank (virtual card) and prepaid vanilla cards.
6. Getting free feeds and drinks
The tech industry is rife with 'networking and industry events'. Many of these free events come with free feeds and drinks. You can follow some of the 'social butterflies' on LinkedIn who would share some of these events and learn something along the way, mingle with tech people and go to the events posted on various websites including Facebook, LinkedIn, Meetup, Eventbrite etc.
7. Always book at a restaurant or hotel as a birthday, anniversary or some special occassion
I posted a thread about this one before. Great and funny way to embarass your friends or get better seating at a restaurant when you're on a date or something special for your next outing.
If you're staying at a 5 star hotel, make sure you have a preset saved of the standard special requests like double duck feather pillows or high profile / European pillows, higher floor with best views etc. You can try slip in a request to have a printed photo of your favourite person on a A4 paper to be left on the bed.
Cheap Seafood Supply Sydney
I'm still looking for the best way to get fresh cheap seafood daily in Sydney like they do with group buys elsewhere. Currently just buying from Sydney Fishmarket and my local Woolies or using Hack 2.
I like to wear my $5k suit to get free cake on my ‘birthday’ and feel extra special about it, the guys on Ozbargain all think I’m a big deal
