yep - likely disposals from corp workplaces
In doing IT support I find certain businesses like to maximize their desk space. They will mount the monitor to the rear of the desk and opt for wireless keyboard & mouse so they can spread stuff over the whole desk.
Places like lawyers, accountants, trades that use blueprints like architecture firms, cabinetry or electricians have these massive printed blueprints they want to lay out flat to markup or measure things. This would also be why they wanted ultrawide screen to display the blueprints at a larger size.
Terrible for gaming and I would even argue terrible for productivity as well.
Yes, you can fit a lot of crap on your screen, but using a 60hz monitor for 8+ hours a day is going to give you some major eye fatigue over time.
Don't game or work on 60hz, your eyes will thank you for it.
Bought one last time, I chated with the girl and she offered me one $250 with the original stand, using it now. A bit of wearing, seems used for a few years, it is OK. Good sound quality.
There is a bunch of people here that bought this crap and bias vote on other people's comments just because they already committed to it.
Your link is for the new U3417W model, what's offered here is the older U3415W…
Rightio, I'm sure people can google it
No doubt similar anyway.
This post got me interested, not so much in this monitor, but in 34" widescreen monitors for my use-case, which is: I do a lot of programming, documentation, and play games (fps/rpg). The idea of a wide screen sounded cool, but then I went to the shop to see the physical dimensions of the 34" screens, and whilst the width is great, the height is worse than looking at a 24" monitor… I mean it's fine, but I'd rather stick to the 16:9 32" monitors for the stuff I do. Obviously everybody's use-case is different, so this might be perfect for some, and the price is good.
Yes that's what I've been saying ;).
People should look at them in person, no point just buying stuff because it's cheap.2x 24" or 2x 27" is better.
A 34" 21:9 is almost exactly the same height as a 27" 16:9. (it's just a wider version of a 27" panel).
ie. This U3415W has a 334.8mm display height, the corresponding U2715H was 335.6mm high.
In many cases though, two 27's may be more convenient.
That's better than I thought, it's a touch higher than my dell 24" 16:10 (which is good and a bit more than standard 24" monitors).
Perhaps other brands have a lot less height.

It's likely that these were purchased without a stand. Dell makes that option available on some of these business oriented monitors (at least to larger purchasers/purchases).
At work we've just purchased a stack (>100) of the U3823DWs supplied without stands (and also buying the MSA20 stands)
