The first thing to know is the Seiko and citizen RRP is laughable. Always aim for 40-50% off. I got the blue one for $389 in the end.
You won't find many retailers with that amount of discount , thankfully we have the likes of starbuy.
The point is you shouldn't pay retail for these new releases, colorways or limited editions. Good to look for a deal but yes have bought plenty from Starbuy. Worth checking the usual stores, I've picked up some great deals from DJ when they've had sales and then extra 30% off. Sometimes Shiels when they don't have an idiot price + $150 off voucher works too (but not often their price is competitive even after the voucher).

No one should tell you what to add. A collection is a very personal choice. I did the mistake of adding watches I didn't like because either a friend or work colleague recommended it. You'd just end up hating it.

There's one or two upbeat tracks on the early stuff. The dead goon stuff, that's dark clown material.
As Maverickjohn perfectly said, buy watches YOU like to see on YOUR wrist. Personally, I've been collecting in such a way that I'd only get a watch based on every milestone (first FT job, graduation, marriage etc) and every time I wear it, I get to appreciate the watch and the accomplishment. This way, I also get to limit myself from going on a buying spree and (try) saving for a really good piece.
Agree just get what you like, no one else can really say without knowing what you already have or like.
It's generally good to get a variety of styles (and colours perhaps) eg. a diver, chronograph, military, dress watch, tough/beater etc.
I'd also include some quartz/solar in the collection which are great grab and go pieces. Annoying having to set the time every day you want to wear a watch.
These small seconds are good as no day and date to set, and fairly classy/easy to read.
One automatic , one solar . That's all I need for this lifetime , anything else is just bragging rights 🙃

Yes, but the bracelet version usually costs more than the strap. And most collectors would have some spare straps ready to go hehehe.
