Still too much for a car with a plastic steering wheel.

    • you do know that all steering wheels are plastic right? even the leather ones. and especially the alcantara ones which is fuzzy plastic over hard plastic…

      • +1

Yes, but at least the "pleather" ones feel nice to hold, not like a 1990 Camry Executive wheel.

It was just a really odd thing for Chery to omit from the base model.

    • it is after all a cherry.

    All these EV 'deals'

Why are cheaper cars crap? you prefer expensive crap? this is ozbargain not ozbrag GTFO if you don't want a price war.

VW, Toyota and Subaru drift off into irrelevance.

At least Kia has a decent SUV in the EV5 & Hyundai with the Ioniq that can provide somewhat of an alternative to the chinese.

I'd still buy an MG4 if i needed a small hatchback.

    10 year warranty, simplez

    • -2

I hope MG has you on commissions

      • +5

        I'd definitely accept them.

Just won't spruik any of their ICE vehicles, they belong in the trash.

    • VW, Toyota and Subaru will likely remain best pick if you need to do >1000 km a week of rural driving, we aren’t dotted with cities like Europe or America yet and won’t be any time soon. Needed for EV infrastructure and more importantly run flat tyre replacements

      • +6

And buses will likely to remain the best pick for people who have to transport 16 people at a time.

Doesn’t mean Subaru or VW want to end up as the ‘best’ option niche product filling a very small market.

73% of Australians live in major cities. A further 25% live in regional towns. Some of them will drive >1000km per week without going near an electricity point. But not many.

You can buy a spare tyre. Just because it doesn’t come with the car doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

      • Negged twice despite being correct.

Dummies of ozbargain strike again hahaha.

Ummm some next gen EVs coming out next year charge from 0 to 80% in ten minutes… Won't take much longer before range anxiety is a thing of the past

      • Just FYi, this is the only passenger EV that comes with a full size spare

    • +1

Ever driven a MG long distance? Those MG seats are known as back breakers!

      • +1

I once drove adelaide to perth return in a mini moke… top speed about 85K coming back with the wind.
How would this compare with the MG?

        /s

      • The MG4 seats are great.

      • Spend $1,000 on really nice cushions? 🤷🏾

  • I am surprised there are no deals for 7 seaters in EV or PHEV. Am I missing anything? Thanks

    • Australians have a hard on for big cars and at the moment the choices for 7 seater EV's are extremely limited

the EV9 is pretty much running a monopoly and thus doesn't have to discount
The Phev's are a bit more competitive - Sea Lion, Outlander, Haval GT, this will be more prone to discounts, however are still in demand.

      • Zeekr 009 soon

      • Merc eqb, Mifa 9, ev9

Families either scared of euro grenades or CCP quality cars.

    • almost no competition in that space. You don't need to discount when you're in a 1 horse race

    • Got a Kia EV9 Earth for about 19k off sticker price in Sep. Seems like it was hard to move stock sitting around since Feb - so does happen but you gotta ask / haggle

Here comes the Chinese EV spam.

It's like they couldn't decide on Cherry or Cheery.

Needs to be closer to $30K to be considered a bargain.

    • +5

It’s a transliteration of Qíruì, so closer to cheery than cherry.

      • +1

        Ahh. Thanks for that mate.

  • I was very impressed on the interior of the Chery cars I saw. Looked like a high end car.
How the car runs and will it be around in a few years is yet to be seen.

  • +4

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I hate the name of this brand. Another “r” and it would’ve made perfect sense. I die a little more on the inside each time I see it.

    • Yeah, I agree. Surely the marketing team here in Australia must realise the name won't be popular

      • +2

Hence it's just got omoda badges only. There is no Chery badge on the electric version.

      • +1

        DEEPAL entered the chat

Most definitely! One has to demonstrate their quality of taste and refinement…. could never buy or ride in a car with a bad name, however good the engineering is!

Looks like Lexus and land rover had a love child. And it inherited the ugliness of both cars.

  • +1

I just read that Chery sold 2.6M vehicles last year! That makes them bigger than Subaru, Mitsubishi and Mazda. These Chinese automakers seem to be taking over the world.

No idea about the quality of their cars though.

    • Low salaries, none of the legacy factory/payroll/union/pension issues of old school manufacturers and they don't even need to steal specs anymore because western companies get them to make everything, like if you buy a Land Rover or Jag in China it's made by Chery, which means they gave Chery all their specs.

China is also by far the biggest car market in the world and the government has made sure to lock up the entire battery industry to fuel their next big expansion.

      • +1

Yeah it all makes sense, but the speed of expansion is just wild. What will the global market look like in 10 years I wonder?

        Anyway, /rant.

  • 40 grand is great value - beats any yaris cross wannabe.
