Just get a 2/4TB NVMe SSD + enclosure, save >30%

    • Which SSD and enclosure do you use?

Re: SSDs, just keep an eye out on ozbargain. There’s a 4tb one for sale atm for $299 which I say is a great price.

Re: enclosures, there’s many on aliexpress / amazon. I would NOT go for the cheapest, but brands such UGreen and Orico have been great for me (~$20-30). 10gbps ones are fine, but if you have a pcie4 ssd and TB4/USB4 input on ur pc then you can get the pricier 40gbps ones that will give you 4x the speed.

Just make sure the enclosure has a good heatsink and ideally thermal pads included. A $7 one from aliexpress has worked fine for me as well but that was more just for just a cheap drive i dont use as often

    • IDK, higher power consumption?

I’ve got an older one of these that I use with my MacBook. A downside IMO was that, to enable the password protection feature with the latest MacOS, I had set the OS to reduced-security-mode to allow third-party kernel extensions so that the Samsung software could run a kernel extension.

But no problem if not using the password security feature.

    • Why not just encrypt it with the built in Mac OS encryption?

      • That's what I did, worked great.
