McDonald's Not Giving Full Amount of Nuggets

I am a fully grown adult male and I can eat.

Purchased a 24pack of nuggets over the holiday break and noticed I finished it rather quickly. I thought perhaps I was just imagining things, but it definitely did not feel like 24 nuggets.

Today I used the Maccas app and got the deal for 20 nuggets and a Mcflurry from a different McDonalds location. Arriving home, I opened the box and a quick visual - it was definitely not 20 nuggets. I dumped all the nuggets onto a plate and counted 15.

Now I'm trying to practice gratitude as part of my New Year's resolution…but I am somewhat irked by this.
Surely the staff aren't so inattentive and lax that they counted to 15 and thought fk it the customer won't notice. Is this a directive from higher up or just shitty customer service.

The burgers have already been shrinkflated to nothing, if they are going to short change me on the nuggets I guess Maccas is off the list of places to spend money.

How many times have you bought nuggets and how many of those times would there have been less? If every time, then one could perhaps deduce that there is a conspiracy going on.

    I too order 24 nuggets and a few times I have 24+, once I had 28.

Very much doubt it's a deceptive directive from above. If you take a moment to look at the staff at Maccas, then I think you'll find that that explains a lot about the service you're receiving. This is often reflected too in half filled 'large' fries containers….. >:(

    • +8

Except for the fact that they are skilled enough to count the exact amount of cash you give to pay for them every time.

      • +6

        You use cash at maccas?

      • Suspect the check-out staff are not the same ones that prepare the food :\

Maybe it's their (Macca's) smarts to put the 'gooder' staff that can count where the money matters!

      • Different staff, also I assume you would be fired much quicker for miscounting money rather than miscounting nuggets.

    • Never been more, mostly bang on 24 sometimes less?
But this is 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon…the drive thru wasn't busy and it's school holidays.

If this is shitty customer service when it's slow what happens when it's busy?

Complain in the app and they'll give you a credit.

        • +2

I have to agree with jv here- provide feedback/complaint and they will likely provide some form of compensation. Good luck!

      • Precooked dry hard nuggets during busy times.
Always more there are, never less.

Last time I ordered a burger from McDonalds it was a BigMac and somehow it was missing the top of the bun. The 20 minutes spent waiting in line at drivethru meant I wasn't going to bother taking it back.

Stop going to maccas. Problem solved.

    • My local KFC is pretty consistent forgetting my dips, same with HJ and maccas forgets whole burgers…..

Its likely the rush of pushing out multiple delivery orders in addition too instore business…

I've seen it personally as a customer in HJ's(Multiple staff checking and re-checking delivery bags while trying to sort through drive-thru and instore items, and a building collection of bags awaiting collection or fresh items) and while I think maccas is more capable of handling more orders at a time, its also just as likely to F-up a aspect of one aswell…..

Maybe the person counting was missing a limb and could only count to 15?

  • +1

I sort of feel like its a store per store so some are better then others (of course it depends on the staff at the time). I wonder if during school holidays they get an influx of kids who are new and just pushing everything through quickly.

FWIW Maccas have usually been pretty low on my list for me, all the food are small and they've more often then not become less and less cost effective. Though I doubt you'd get a lot better elsewhere, I always count my food after a fast food place because of the number of times I've been burnt by it (and its almost never ever in my favour).

  • +6

I used to go heaps and the amount of errors they made forced me to check every time before I left. Wrong order, missing items etc

I then realised I shouldn't eat this garbage so I barely go anymore.

The cost is hardly better than many other foods. Not like 10+ years ago.

The result of the education system that has had to 'adjust' to the new arrivals… Now no one can can't count!

  • -4

    People actually count their nuggets?

  • +2

Surely the staff aren't so inattentive and lax that they counted to 15 and thought fk it the customer won't notice.

They simply don't care. It's quicker to not count and eyeball it. If the customer notices, they can complain and maccas will give them a discount code. Or they don't complain and absolutely nothing happens. By the time enough complaints are built up that it triggers some kind of nugget review process, they'll probably have left.

There are a million statistics around, but generally speaking most people don't actually care about their work, they're checked out and just going through the motions. That a 16 year old earning junior wages in fast food can't be arsed counting nuggets is not surprisingly at all.

Call me petty but I opened my nuggets and got 4 instead of 6 once and told them to give me my 2.

People should understand if you ordered X, you should get X.

Same thing with estimated mince from Woolies and Coles. A customer legit for 700g instead of 1kg and she weighed it on 3 scales to make sure it wasn't her scales. Would you be happy if you got effed over by 30% missing?

    • I don't think anyone argues you should get what you paid for…..

My question is why it happens… And while I technically want to say understaffed(You realistically can't have too many people assigned to one task/station unless you run the equivalent to a production line), I'd lean towards the difficulty of having the exact amount of people you need at the right time and maybe better checks for orders. But even their stuff ups are likely a small part of the overall business….

Though I bet if we go by individual store performance, some stores are arguably worse than others….

P.S Who thinks these major takeaway stores should trial a closed kitchen(like a ghost kitchen/store) just to service online orders?

Less staff potentially and a production line setting maybe more efficient than one place serving three types of customers….

Heck three mini kitchens in a non-descript building for Maccas, HJ and KFC in the middle of a high traffic(delivery-wise) customer hub….

  • It's hard to believe such a large discrepancy could happen by accident. There must be something more going on here…

  • Sometimes the crew members in the kitchen can’t be bothered to do an accurate count. (Especially with the larger nugget orders) When you order in store and can see into the kitchen area, you can actually observe it happening.

@CommuterPolluter: The children working at Macca's can't count, the public school system is at fault here. It's as if they missed the first day of school.

Gradually I came to understand that the staff at McDonalds generally do not give a $hit about the quality of the food they prepare for customers. Not only do they have no pride in delivering quality food, nor a desire to perform at a high level, but they will play "tricks" on customers by making unbelievable mistakes. For example one time I got a cheeseburger and there was no beef in it. Another time I got this, I don't know, burger that had a mozzarella patty, and when I opened the box I found that it contained only the bun and beef with a bit of mayo, and everything else was missing. Customer service feedback is mostly ignored. These types of mistakes are impossible to make accidentally, so the only conclusion is that they were made deliberately. Anyway I haven't eaten McDonalds for over a year and have no intention of eating from there again. This is the simplest solution to the problem.

I used to always lose count and would put more in

  • i always get more

  • +3

99.99999% of the time there is a mistake - you will get less than what you paid for.
You need to immediately march into the McDonald's where you bought them, and demand a refund and a replacement.
    This is an absolute outrage.
In Japan, the nuggets always add up, and the fries are always filled properly. The only reason it happens in Australia is because people accept this type of deceptive, misleading and outrageous corporate behaviour as 'normal'.
Do you think the fries, which are now never full - suddenly went down to 70% overnight?
No they didn't - it happened gradually and people accepted it.
Just one nugget short - just one fry shy - go to town!

    • I know they squeeze the fries container to make it fit less. When you shake the fries down and fill the gaps it's then 70% full

      • Fries packets everywhere have all shrunk and they are never filled anywhere near the top of the packet anymore. Double shrinkflation.

Happens to me all the time at KFC. Or they substitute for other inferior products.

    • Once a year, every year, the onslaught of kfc ads during the cricket get me over the summer and I give KFC a go. I have never not been disappointed. It's always disgusting. Looking through the drivethru window at the state of their floors and tables is even more disgusting, and ultimately the greasy, stale 'food' never fails to leave me feeling a bit crook. They also almost always forget something or tell me its not available after paying.
I say this as someone who can easily put back more maccas than I should if I let myself go, so it's not just that its fast food, KFC seems to be the pinnacle of disgusting poor quality. I ate better street food in Afghanistan and Yemen ffs.

    • Heh, reminds me once, I went to a KFC, like 9pm, nothing outrageous…

'We've run out of Chicken' - WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! Hahahaha I was so gobsmacked… Like the one thing you specialise in, it's in your name… Heh

  • Call the Store or email McDonalds. They'll make good on it.

  • I think the nuggets have shrunk as well. They're noticeably thinner now.

  • Definitely stop going there, for a different reason though. I don't eat junk food nowadays. If I eat Maccas or KFC once, I feel the impact fairly quickly, I get lethargic within an hour after the meal and thirsty on that day, and produce some phlegm the next morning (not the type you get during a cold, but a relatively clear type of discharge). I never get these symptoms at all eating my daily food. I definitely wasn't like this when I didn't care what I ate, but once I got my body relatively clean, my body became more sensitive to food in general.

  • I am a full grown adult male, I can eat, but I don't eat Maccas. My kids on the other hand are 11, 8 and 5 and boy can they eat.

If I get taekaway for them it's Maccas. 3x24 pack nuggets (+2 large fries). Probably get this once a fortnight or 3 weeks.

I can say I regularly get the correct amount, or maybe even +1 or +2.

Once I can significantly less than ordered, called the store to ask them WTF and they sent me a few vouchers in the mail. You should let them know, it's the only way they can and will do something about it.

  • Worked for a maccas 15 years ago, it's not Upper management, it's either lower management or crew laziness.

Low management get measured on profit and effeciency. Most managers do things legit, but some are unethical. Being unethical benefits them if they don't get caught, which is risky.

One of the managers I knew which was unethical would refuse to let meats get thrown out regardless of how long it was in the warmers. He also would start his shift early, and water down the ice cream mix before any one else came in. Caught him once.

    • Yet they don't realise the profits go down as customers are never return customers.

  • I'm sure this could be the beginning of Nugspiracy, a Netflix documentary.

  • Take the sign from the Gods and stop eating this rubbish now.
