Diablo 14 Piece Reciprocating Saw Blade Set + 9" Carbide Tipped $39 + Delivery ($0 with $99 Order, C&C/In Store) @ Total Tools

820

These are very good bi-metal blades and you get a 9" carbide tipped one. I think this is the same thing at bunnings: https://www.bunnings.com.au/diablo-14-piece-demolition-recip… for almost double the price without the bonus 9" tip

Last time it was this price was Dec 2023: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823738 I just checked my supply and I've only got a few Lenox fine-tooth metal/plastic ones left so I got 2 packs to last me another 2 years.

Is there a Diablo 4 piece set?

    • +16

Yes, but it is only good for grinding.

    • yea 14 pieces where the hell do you put them on

    • +1

Ngl I thought OP meant Diablo 4 and not 14 😂

  • +14

Is this only for Rogues or can a Druid use it as well?

    • +6

More of a WW Barb set, this one.

  • +1

    Perfect timing.

  • What are these like for tree trimming compared the proper garden versions?

    • +6

They work fine. I took down a medium sized tree with the regular 9" in my M18 Hackzall, and 6" in my M12, because I was too lazy to fire up my chainsaw.

I wouldn't bother with low TPI pruning blades unless you do it a lot or you're an arborist or landscaper, otherwise the "wood" or even "general purpose" ones are fine for a bit of pruning here and there.

    • +8

The main issue with using any reciprocating saw (regardless of blade) for pruning is that the stroke isn't long enough to clear the wood chips out, and they can gum up the blade

Here's a thisoldtony vide where he explores various options https://youtube.com/watch?v=lAIXPu-gFNg

      • Great video!

        • +4

He has fantastic content, I'd strongly recommend for anyone interested in machining or "advanced diy". Really well produced, and interesting contents

          • @OZKap: AvE is great as well, seems like similar target market, and sense of humour!

            • @Tunblor: I used to really enjoy AvE, then he started uploading all this political content during COVID, I ended up unsubscribing because his videos just werent interesting for me anymore. At one point I looked through his latest videos and realised his last interesting-to-me upload was a year ago.

Has he been uploading more of the tool teardown type videos?

              • @OZKap: Funny you should say that, because I have no idea what his recent videos are like: it's not really how I watch YouTube - I jump around their catalogue of content and watch the interesting ones.

Couple of recent vids I just had a quick look at didn't have any political content, so I went looking and found an anti-lockdown video from 2 years ago… Yeah, misinformed and annoying but pretty easy to avoid if it's isolated to just the obvious videos. Was the political stuff seeping into his usual content?

                • @Tunblor: Not so much "seeping in to his usual content" as "becoming his usual content". I joined up for his BOLTR "bored of lame tool reviews" series where he'd tear down a tool and give his insights on what materials the manufacturer used, where they saved money, what was likely to fail first.

During covid his videos were him and his buddy out in the canadian countryside talking in support of the trucker convoys etc.

Out of interest I went to the fan-made subreddit, here's a discussion about the channel from 5 days ago that gives more opinions, as well as more suggestions of excellent channels https://www.reddit.com/r/ave/comments/1hrguqx/what_happened_…

AVE has some amazing videos in his back catalogue

I got one of these for smaller branches. Works really well and everyone has Ozito batteries. Cuts 1" easily, 2" is doable but you have to go around the branch a couple times. Good thing with Ozito gear is you can absolutley thrash them and when they die, just go and get a replacement.

        • +1

Ooh I've been keeping any eye on that style for a while, but I didn't realise ozito did one too.

I've got a really nice pair of felco secateurs, and I don't think I do enough big pruning to need the extra bulk of a battery tool. Anything bigger than about 25mm I get with my silky saw.

    • Alright - but nowhere near as good as I was expecting.

    • +1

I think if you've got a decent amount of tree trimming to do it's worth getting the proper pruning blade.

Last week I removed half of a 30 metre x 12ft hedge with an Ozito reciprocating saw and a single one of these blades. Took around 6 hours.

      • Think I will get another specialist pruning blade then as I don't use it for much else then pruning.. The Ryobi mini chainsaw does a decent job on the bigger stuff but the recipe requires less prep and maintenance.

    • buy the low tpi pruning blades - they are cheap and work really well
Use them for anything from pruning to cutting firewood camping if i dont bring a chainsaw

clog much less than wood / demo blades

  • +3

    Any Diablo Immortal tools?

    • +4

There are, but it's a lucky dip that costs tens of thousands of dollars

      • +2

        Or maybe cost your soul?

        • Souls? On OzBargain? Pretty sure they'd have been sold years ago in exchange for a pocket full of Eneloops.

    • Compared to Aliexpress tools, yes.

    • +3

Is this an out of season April fool's joke?

  • +9

    Whats the DPS on this

    • +2

Depends on the tool driving the blade

      • i'll keep it stowed away in my Horadric Cube until i level up then…

  • These are good. Diablo is great for consumables that cut

Bought them back in 2022 to have an assortment on hand, haven't used then for anything really hardcore but they go though old galvanised plumbing pipe like butter, obviously good on timber.

I turned through a no-name wood blade trying to cut through glass reinforced nylon from a computer chair base, would the carbide do better?

    • +1

Try the metal blades before the carbide. I'd yolo it using a 36v 9" grinder.

      • +1

I'll give the metal blades a try next time 👍

Yeah I didn't want to use the grinder because I figured it would spray plastic bits everywhere. The wood blade worked much more cleanly, I cut it up above the bin so all chips just fell down. Worked okay but the blade was ruined after the 2-3 cuts I needed to make to chop it up

        • +2

If you're doing more demolition work on office chairs, could you do a time lapse video of you cutting up a gas lift strut with an angle grinder please?
(Just asking for my friend who has to give a workplace OH&S lecture)

          • @rooster7777: Gas struts I don't touch.

If anyone at work starts with "oh this is a really good chair, but the gas stru-"

"NOPE! Throw it out and buy a new one"

  • +2

The picture looked like twiggy sticks to me. Haven't had breakfast :)

    • +1

      Can’t unsee it now.

      • Acuphagia.

  • Cut down into small branches 5 hedges with one blade so good

  • +2

Effect of POE2 to DIablo franchise. You woke up the next day and found out Diablo 14 is now out.

  • +1

It looks like a pack of sausages in small screen

Good for cutting down all my cardboard boxes, or overkill?

    • I'd recommend the canary corrugated cardboard cutter.
Not sure if this is the best price at the moment, it's just the one that I bought https://www.amazon.com.au/Yellow-Corrugated-Cardboard-Fluori…

Sinsen_inc the seller on Amazon. I've bought a number of Japanese tools from them, always as I expected

      • Thanks very much ill give that a go. Obv I've used various blades but dislike them for reasons.

      • I bought something similar when recommended on here before and really did not rate it. Went back to a standard box cutter blade in the end.

    • +1

Overkill. Stanley knife should be fine for that.

      • +1

There's a reason they're called "box cutters" - right tool for the job!

    • Now I wanna try this just for fun

    • Ive been using Ozito reciprocating blade to cut through cardboard boxes.

Overkill for Amazon boxes but was definitely useful for the boxes that came with the TV, aircons, or other heavy items.

Wife was suprised one day the garage was so tidy after cutting all the ikea and tv cardboards into little pieces to fit in the recycling bin.

      • I have visions of the Malcolm in the Middle scene with chucking things into the wood chipper. You were scouting around for anything you could cut up weren't you?

        • +1

          finally, someone that understands me!

          mmmuaaahahahahahaha

yucca tree branches are my next target

  • -2

Thanks OP, will go well with my Lamborghini Diablo

  • -2

I found this set drop in level 2 dungeon and use it to take down the butcher.. Recommended!!

  • Any recommendation for a skin to go with these blades?

    • +1

Much of a muchness for home use. Ozito or ryobi.main thing is be ready to become stuck to the ecosystem via propriety battery connections (which can be fudged using Amazon adapters but eh).

      I have ryobi.

      • Thanks - will wait for a deal on an ozito saw as im unfortunately stuck in that ecosystem now

        • I had an Ozito recip saw. The first reasonable sized job I used it on, i.e. more than about 30 seconds of continuous cutting, its cooling fan disintegrated and spat out chunks of blade from the vent holes. After that point it was clear it was going to die so I kept going and finished the job. It threw out an impressive amount of smoke before finally dying. I've replaced it with a DeWalt one now.

          • @banana365: Brushed or brushless? The brushed one seemed pretty weak. The brushless was a lot better. I have abused the brushless one quite a bit and all good so far.

    • +3

Milwaukee M18 Hackzall does not disappoint

      • Yep. The chain gun of power tools.

      • Yep single handed operation is so much better than a sawzall

    • +1

Honestly for DIY, Ryobi is fine. But whatever tool you buy, buy good accessories, whether it be drill bits or sandpaper or blades.

    • Really depends on how much you're planning to use it for.

Occasional use (an hour a month or less): cheapest brushless you can find. For example this here

For regular use (multiple times a week), you'll quickly appreciate the quality you get for a lot more money. This might be one of the best you can get

  • Would Bunnings price beaten work, despite on the bonus product?

  • +1

Snagged this deal, will come in handy for the renos I'm doing this year! Cheers.
$5.45 delivery was worth it for me instead of having to go in-store.

  • Cheers ordered 4 sets at that price. Last me couple of gears. Excellent blades imo

  • Please kindly note there is only 1 blade comes with carbide tip.

  • +9

Sometimes I find myself reviewing deals and reading comments and 20 minutes later I'm like… I don't even own a reciprocating saw. Why am I here?

    • +3

      Yep, same. 😅
This is why my OH is pissed at me.

  • I use these a lot and this is a great price for exceptional blades. I normally buy them on Amazon (from the US) but at this price wouldn't bother.

    Get it.

    • Used the carbide blades? I got a 4 pack while back and I've used one to dig up then cut out 4 tree stumps. Carbide doesn't dull on dirt right away :)

      • Yes, carbide blades. I've just noticed that only one of these blade is carbide - still a good price though

      • +1

yea its amazing the difference, my last carbide blade snapped before it was dull but at full price not sure i got enough value out of it for the price

  • Sharp price

  • I wish these addons were included in Gamepass.

  • Can you dual wield these??

  • +1

What are bi-metal blades? Does that mean they bend both ways. 🤗

  • The carbide tipped one is fantastic, and would almost cost this much on its own at Bunnings. Cheaper occasionally at Amazon (from US), I got 3 for less than $40.

  • still waiting for the tool sale, but…. why do u need so many blades for DIY?

  • These are the blades that cut bone, aren't they? Asking for a friend.

  • Ordered thanks OP. Now to get onto those rotten weatherboards.
