Westpac Altitude Velocity Black - Cheapest/Easiest Direct Spend at Virgin Australia

I am looking to sign-up to the Westpac Altitude Velocity Black card. It comes with 2x complimentary single-entry Virgin Australia Domestic Lounge Passes and two complimentary Economy-X Seat Upgrade Vouchers.
To activate these, you need to make an "a direct spend with Virgin Australia (Eligible Spend) on your Altitude Platinum Mastercard or Altitude Black Mastercard every year from card open date."

I have some existing bookings with Virign Australia and wondering if anyone has ideas on the cheapest/easiest way to make a direct spend on Virgin Australia considering I've already booked my flight.

  That must be a recent requirement because I got the lounge passes and Economy X without a direct spend.

  Anyway, to meet the direct spend requirement you could consider choosing a paid seat (exit row or front row) and pay with your card. This will be a direct spend with the airline.

  Book a fully refundable business class fare sometime into the future. You will have to request the lounge vouchers before you cancel and you will still be up for the credit card fee; but otherwise, should work.
