Tempted as I've wanted one of these for a while but was hoping it would've dropped to around half of its original price as it's now 2 years old and only has 2 years of security updates left.

    Currently receiving monthly security updates.

    Device launched on January, 2023

Security updates will stop on January, 2027

    Launched On: Android 13

    Upgraded To: Android 14

    Next OS: Android 15

Please note: Channels and regions may have different launch dates and support cycle may vary.

    • Poor software optimisation is my concern too with Motorola.

      • +2

Haven't Motorolas historically been very close to stock android? Or is that what you're talking about.

        • +1

No the problem is that their ROMS are pretty poor, choppy UI and shutter lag is a bad thing too. Shouldn't be the case because it's close to stock Android.

Dual physical SIM, but no eSIM support for what is otherwise a high end phone. That’s poor

    • +1

And no SD card slot 🙄

  • Looks like theres a new model out, but doesnt really seem much of an upgrade

eSim is a big one for some. I couldn't live without an eSim anymore, travelling is such a breeze with this.

      • +3

Was going to move to eSIM until I went into Optus shop and asked what's involved to transfer to a new phone if old one breaks, because now no MFA id eSIM phone broken and talking to call centre, stayed on physical SIM, if phone breaks I take out SIM, put into emergency phone until I decide on what new phone will be. I can use temp number on eSIM, but main umber is physical SIM.

        • All eSim operators will let you transfer eSim through their app, yes it could be some inconvenience compared to just pulling out the Sim. I mainly use it for travel, easy to install a new country's Sim before leaving and it's ready to go.

$638 on Amazon after 10% prime discount

    Would JB hi-fi match

    • +4

Probably not as the one on the Amazon AU website is sold by and shipping from Amazon Germany

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Motorola-PAWN0003SE-ThinkPhone-by/…

      • -1

Correct but once you add to cart it gives free shipping

        • +3

Yes, I know. I was replying to your comment about whether or not JB Hi Fi would match the price.

        • +5

Foreign models have a different SKU and aren't eligible for price matching.

    • +4

Simple answer is NO, JB will not price match a German phone, as lovesabargain77 correctly highlighted.

    • Looks like a grey import.

  • Moto g84 is a much better option, with 12GB RAM
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/moto-g84-5g-256gb-midnigh…

    • What are the advantages of this phone over the g84? Snapdragon vs mediatek?

The g84 hs been half price a few times too

    • G84 had a much weaker processor (SD695) than the one in this post.

Letting this old dinosaur brand use the think trademark sort of brings down Lenovo’s premium standing

    • It'd be awesome if Motorola/Lenovo made the ThinkPhone their flagship and made a seamless connected experience for Windows / ThinkPads.

    • +1

      Lenovo owns Moto.

    • This old dinosaur brand invented the cellular phone.

  • This or edge 30 ultra? Same chips inside but bigger ram on 30 ultra

    • Pretty much the same. Edge 30 ultra charges faster but smaller battery. Better camera specs on edge 30 ultra.

    • JB had the G50 Neo on special when I went in on weekend $369 ….

Many Motorola models freez often and the phone goes to DND mode without you knowing about it..
I am keeping away from Motorola.

    • DND mode?

      • Do Not Disturb

    • +1

Did you have DND flip enabled?

    • That's never happened on any of the 6 Moto phones I've owned.

    • The flip feature will put the phone to dnd,
Turning it from face up the face down like the habit of peak at screen then flip into face down on a desk will do it.

You might want to turn that off.

  • Why fuss about this phone? I got the edge 50 pro for less, what Sam I missing?

    • +1

      Matches your ThinkPad

    • Yeah not a great price for a 3 gen old processor. I got the edge 30 ultra for this price 18 months ago that was ok. Not in 2025

  • I've had one for 16months. It's an ok phone, camera struggles in low light and the phones performance over time has dropped a fair bit. Has constant issues with the speaker phone but it's ok for the current price but I'm sure there are better options worth considering. It's not the best phone over had, but it does the job.

    • Which is best phone you ever had?

      Asking for a friend

      • Samsung Galaxy
