I have been reading that the boost coverage and speeds have deteriorated since being bought out by Telstra. I assume this is because Telstra could see too many consumers opting for boost to get the same performance. Can anyone comment on this?

I'd say there are many times more Telstra customers than Boost customers.
Just get one and try it (as long as Telstra is decent in your area).
