Best Value 85"—105" Premium TV

Wondering people's opinion's on the best 85"—105" Premium TV (I'd consider as small as 75" if it's much better value). I'm looking strongly at the TCL 85C855, any others I should consider?

Looking to get something at a good price, but looking to spend around $2-$3k.

    as small as 75"

75" is not a small TV. What are the room dimensions for said TV?

    • The room is about 4m, but fairly narrow. So not huge, but we're a long way away from the TV.

C855 will probably be your best choice in that price range.

TCL? Almost as gross as driving an MG

    • What would you suggest?

    • I used to think that, but am currently enjoying a TCL C755 with mini LED backlighting zones. In a bright room it’s better to watch than an LG oled B4, the blacks are fabulous, and very accurate colour and fleshtones. The operating system is super snappy and responsive. It doesn’t have the super thin aesthetics of Samsung or LG but I’m quite amazed at how good it is. 3 yr at home warranty as well.

‘Premium’ TV but a $2-3k budget? You’ll want 8K at that size (it has built in upscaling of all 4K content) as pixel size is quite evident above 77”.

    • Nah, for me at least, 4k is great. Not much point in 8K when there isn't any content.

      • All 4K content is 8K content. Part of the specification is built-in upscaling. At 100", it will make a huge difference.

    • Distance matters, at 3.5-4m distance it's borderline whether 4K offers much benefit over 1080p.

      • For fine details, sure, but there's still a difference to overall image clarity, sharpness, text and aliasing.

        • There’s really not at that distance. Thus why your phone had a ppi that dwarfs your tv, yet both are clear at the right distance.

  • Can get the 98" TCL C655 for $2999 at the moment. I wouldn't but it's your budget limit.

  • TCL isn't a premium TV brand.

They're great value for money but you should temper expectations. They're just not as good as a premium brand like LG/Sony/Samsung in the space.

But for your budget and desired size they would fit well. Don't think anyone would say the TCL 85C855 is bad by any means.

TLC is a budget brand. Last time I went to buy a TV, I was sold on TLC on ozb. But when I went in store, I could see the difference in screen quality compared to the premium brands like LG, Sony and Samsung.

  • A friends son used to work in one of these "stores". He said that they would often tweak the settings on certain TV's so that they would look better in the customer's comparison viewings in store.

  • I just bought the 75" TCL C855 (as with every other ozbargainer) For Just under $2k, hard to get much better value than that.

If you want a premium TV, and have more budget to play with, an LG OLED would be the pick, but you'd be looking at $5.5k for the 83".
