Bought this and its been great for us so far

Thanks. I know Choice reviews aren't the be-all and end-all, but does anyone know what they say about this? Also I am wondering if this is the right capacity size for a 3-person family..

      • You asking someone to review the reviews for you..?

        • +1

Well, hoping for someone with access to share it, yes. They're membership-walled, which is understandable, but a summary of their opinion of this particular model wouldn't be unfair

          • +1

@Horacio: 74%, highest rated model is 78%. Solid performance for the price.

      • Eh I see someone has already kindly posted in on the previous deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16037929/redir

      • Key problem I notice is "Bad points: Very long cycle time" .. they're not kidding, standard wash time (minutes) 221… Is that a typo? My current toploader takes 40 mins, so this is over five times longer. This could ruin my current practice of getting a load done in the morning. Do folks with these do their washing the night before (noisy, surely?)

    • Seconded. This thing is a unit - going strong for over a year now.

      • I would really hope it lasts more than a year for any washing machine…

        • I think the point I was making was that I have used this washing machine for a year, and my verdict is that it's very good. Sorry if you missed that.

My old Serie 4 Bosch Classic lasted as over 13 years. Paid just under $500 (back around 2010) and came with a 12 pack of Omo powder which lasted us about 2 years.

Was a brilliant machine. As the family grew, we were running multiple loads each day.

Eventually the brushes on the motor wore out ($8 fix from eBay for new brushes), but eventually the main bearing on the drum developed play which caused the inner drum to rub on the outer drum causing the inner drum to leak water.

Ended up getting a new Bosch and tearing down my faulty one. Kept the water pump and motor (with new brushes) which got me about $200 on eBay as working spares. The old machine was picked up (striped internally by me) when the new one was delivered.

Parts availability and lots of info on the web for common faults is why I use Bosch (or BSH) whitegoods.

      A true hardcore ozbargainer!

    • My 3 year old Bosch series 4 started to make a grinding sound when spinning and won't speed up past like 50rpm or something, so the clothes come out soaked, do you have any idea what might be wrong? Can't find a video anywhere with the same sound.

Trying to decide whether I need to just buy a new one like this but honestly was hoping a Bosch would last a lot longer, $200 just for the callout for a technician which is like 25% of the cost of this new machine.

      • I got the same issue recently.

It turned out you need to clean the impeller which is located at the bottom right of the machine of my series 8. Just refer to the manual and it's pretty easy.

      • +1

        Drain pump probably blocked

    • Mad respect for not just binning the faulty one like most f us would have done.

      • +2

I literally got a Bosch 9kg a month ago and just let them take my old Samsung that sounded like it was about to explode.

        • Why didn't you try to fix it?

          • +1

@smartProverble: It sounded like the drum had disconnected or snapped or something, I couldn't be bothered with it. Had it a while.

In case y'all wondering, the WGG244ARAU is made in Germany (some of the cheaper Bosch units are out of China).
The Goodguys normally make that clear on their website.

    • +2

      Sind deutsche Waschmaschinen gut?

      • +2

        Ja! Ich habe eins.

Although, I've just done a bit more reading, and this model looks to be made in Spain.

        • +2

Yeh don’t think any series 6 is made in Germany. It’s usually Spain

          • @illusion99: Correct. I've got a Serie 8 Washing Machine, and it's made in Germany.
All of the Heat Pump Dryers are made in Poland afaik.

But I was today years old when I learnt that Bosch now make appliances in Spain.

        • +6

Yes it has the built in siesta mode where it goes into sleep mode for a couple of hours after lunchtime.

      • Miele Immer Besser

    • +1

Spain, generally the higher tier models i.e. Series 8 are German manufactured.

The only negative feedback I have heard, both from other users and online reviews, is the dispenser not clearing of water after wash

    • +1

It seems to be everywhere nowadays, I recently bought a Serie 6 10kg (WGA254U0AU) at TGG with the hope of Euro-made and apparently it's made in China. While browsing JBHifi the other day, I saw a Bosch Serie 4 washer made in Poland.

      • +1

It depends on the appliance. Serie 6 dishawashers are German made but this doesn't appear to be.

      • I’m yet to see anyone with any actual specific evidence to support the claim that German-built machines are superior, outside of them just being higher-level models

    • "The Bosch WGG244ARAU Series 6 9kg Front Load Washing Machine is manufactured in Spain"…..

      • +1

        Spain Germany?

    • +1

Not germany this only series 8 is made there and thats only one i recommend in Bosch

Appliancesonline.com.au does price match WGG244ARAU and has free delivery, save few more bucks there.

    • +4

They only match incl. delivery cost, $59 for delivery. Just spoke with them

      • +2

They are currently out of stock (for my postcode) with a 1-2 week wait time. Just mention you'll purchase it from good guys and they'll waive the delivery.

        • +2

I did mention and they said delivery cost is $59 so total is 888+59

          • @salehiam: Was able to get appliancesonline to price match and waive the delivery fee. Thanks @lngnnk

        • Cheers, I just did the same (mentioned I'm happy to pick it up locally from GG when it's available) and got free delivery too.

    • +3

Yep, just got it for $888 with free delivery (in 4-5 weeks time).

  • Went to buy one of these a few days ago, machine was out of stock in just about every store (no I'm not driving 7 hours to Tamworth for a washing machine), TGG want another $59 for delivery which sours the deal a little bit.

    • +1

Rather than paying $59, you are driving 7 hours?

    • +2

      Not made in Germany though

  • Can you use these without using the i-DOS, just putting powder or liquid into the drum with clothes? Curious if i-DOS fails or don't like using it what are the options

    • +1

      Manual dosing option.
You can continue to use the manual dosing compartment for your special detergent, powder or stain remover. Available on all programs, except Automatic.

      • +1

Thanks, i swear I looked up i-DOS couple of years ago and you couldn't or there was some issue maybe some older machine didn't have a manual option so i stayed away from it

  • Can you use this as well?

Bought one of these just over a week ago. First one was completely DOA - the door switch (I assume) was faulty and no matter what I did it would not start a load as it warned that the door was always open when it was not.

Called Bosch and they agreed with my armchair diagnosis and wanted to send out a service technician…. in mid January. I kindly reminded them that I had literally just bought it hours earlier and I would not be waiting almost a month for a service on a brand new product. They were somewhat decent about it, but pointed me back to the retail and the retailer dropped me off a new one a day or so later and took the "old" one away. That one worked flawlessly out of the box, but has really soured my 20+ years as a Bosch fanboy.

    • -1

You had to wait one day on a on site replacement, for free, and are still complaining. Sheesh.

      • +2

Not a complaint on service. A disappointment on a completely DOA appliance.

        • -2

Space shuttles have exploded, mate. Man made machines fail sometimes. It happens. Learn coping mechanisms or you're in for a long, dissapointing experience in this life. The response was fantastic.

          • -1

@Ademos: I am also disappointed that space shuttles have exploded. I'm also coping just fine.

Once again for the people in the back who need to learn some listening mechanisms or they are in for a long, misrepresented experience in this life: I did not complain about the service, nor the "response".

            • @henno: "really soured my 20+ years as a Bosch fanboy."

One failure, instantly rectified at your door, in 20 years.

Yes, I see why that's worthy of a tantrum. I stand corrected.

              • @Ademos: The product, pal. A DOA product soured an otherwise perfect track record. And I'm disappointed that it happened.

There seems to be only one tantrum going on at the moment and it's not me.

EDIT: Quality timing with your negs on my comments just now. Tantrum indeed.

    • +1

First point of call is always the retailer, they are responsible under ACL.

  • Got the older Series 8 (german made) 8.5kg white washing machine. It's does everything it should and very well - I do suggest dialling the spin speed down to 1200rpm to save on wear and tear (on both the machine and your clothes). Had it for 4 years, 3 loads a week and have 0 issues, it's perfect. I hear so many people having issues with the high end Asko and Miele machines down to the cheap Samsung ones, only issues i've read about Bosch is on their i-DOS types which I would avoid.

    • This is an iDOS though right?

      • Just use it with manual dosing instead.

    • What's wrong with Samsung? I haven't had any issues with it so far so I don't see a reason to change.

      • Relax buddy, I'm not asking you specifically to sell your machine and buy this one!

Samsungs are just generally the worst quality with any of their whitegoods. They make good TVs though.

        • Worst than Solt?

    • Exactly what I have read about i-DOS but I need a new machine and this seems like a good deal, not sure to buy or not to buy …

  • Does the dryer go on sale often?
Need to buy a set for new laundry reno

    • I'd give your preferred retailer a call to see if they will knock some money off the dryer for you if you purchase it and the washing machine in a single transaction.
