Piano/Keyboard Stand - Z Style: Height and Width Adjustable + Lockable Wheels $53 (42% Off), Free Delivery @ Harvey Norman

190

Very cheap keyboard stand and much more stable than an X style stand (even a double braced one) and much more leg room if sitting.

I was just about to pay $112 at Amazon and most other places are selling it for around $100 or more at the moment, so I was very surprised to see Harvey Norman with such a discount. Snapped one up right away for my new Yamaha keyboard that is on it's way and thought others may be interested too.

Because according to reviews, it's a very solid stand that can support even the bigger and heavier keyboards people might have. Height setting up to 93cm (where as others I've seen in this style are usually shorter) and width is suitable for keyboards with either 61,76 or 88 keys.

Very quick and easy to assemble, short video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT1xCgp2idw&ab_channel=Yarra…

But the thing that sold me is the option for lockable wheels (also comes with feet) and both options are height adjustable for uneven floors. Plus it has 2 security straps to screw into the base of your keyboard for extra safety protection and a hook for a headset too.

Link to Amazon page with same one but with more info and a few reviews: https://www.amazon.com.au/Keyboard-Portable-Heavy-Duty-Elect…

It's basically the same as this very popular brand also sold on Amazon (link below) except it has the bonus of the wheels and costs nearly 4X less!:

A real bargain IMO, but unfortunately the deal ends midnight tonight!

Great find OP! Wheels are a good idea, being able to easily move my keyboard out of the way when not in use.

Thankyou🙏 You are very correct! 👍

After I spotted the similar one from Amazon (last link at the bottom) it finally dawned on me, that a foldable X-style stand was not going to be practical at all! Thankfully I was able to cancel this part of my order, before it had all shipped from the music store😅

Now I can wheel it in front of my TV and run a web app like Yousician or Flowkey etc, to teach me (I have a PC in the Loungeroom connected to the TV).

I was actually considering getting a tablet, just for this purpose, like a lot of folks do (perching it on their music stand) but now with the "power of wheels" I can avoid this cost all together and just roll the whole setup away when finished practicing🥳

Bonus is, that the TV has nice chonky stereo Edifier speakers attached (same as these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/886236 ), so can run a cable into them from the Yamaha's outputs, for some boosted audio 😎

Looks good. Thanks for the detailed post and links. Grabbed one on your recommendation!

    • You're welcome 😀 I'm so glad my post helped you out!

    Bought one! thanks OP!

    • You're welcome! I hope you enjoy it 👍

Great description OP, I got one for a heavy keyboard that's coming :) This as an add-on doesn't look too bad either, $140 all together for a Z-style double keyboard stand is quite good.

    • Thankyou for the kind words 🙏 What keyboard are you getting?

I checked your link out and I have to agree, that is a very good price indeed (quickly checked a few others online and this is significantly cheaper but looks very decent). Seems like it will go well with the stand in this deal and, as you said, make for an overall, very cheap combo!

So I went ahead and grabbed one, I'm sure it will come in handy for supporting various things and make the setup more manageable and useable.

Thankyou very much for sharing the link, I really appreciate it 👍

Nice, happy to help :) I'm getting a Studiologic Numa X Piano GT, it was $1500 last week which was too good to pass up for an endgame keyboard. It's 25kg though, so was unsure if I should trust X-style stands, your post came in at the perfect time!

          Thanks:)

Great to hear this deal came up at the right time for you👍 I almost didn't bother because I didn't think anyone would be interested, I could not have been more wrong 😅

Woah, now that's a bargain, listed as $3400 now! No way you could pass that up, if this is what you were aiming for. Congratulations, it's gorgeous and will hopefully last you for life👍

You just run it into some studio monitor speakers? Or do you also plan to do stage gigs with it?

          • +1

@wonderboy4: Thanks for the kind words. It's a bit heavy for gigs so I ordered some Edifier MR4s to use with them at home, I was thinking a Yamaha CK61 for stage gigs in the future cause the EP sound is my favourite. Got any other recommendations?

            • +1

              @jeo: Your welcome:)

Nice choice on the Edifiers, I haven't ever heard anyone say their speakers are bad and I still marvel at how excellent the sound is from my S1000MKII's, music, movies, gaming all sound amazing to me on these, especially compared to a TV's internal one's or your average computer desk speakers.

Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with stage piano's but I did a very quick read up on the CK61 and honestly, even just at a glance, I am already impressed by it. I had no idea that a professional stage piano of that calibre could be had for that price. Really cool that Yamaha extended the range to include something this good at that price point, I imagine they must be crushing it in this category? Or are there other brands atm, that can also compete with it, for similar money?

FYI, here is the review I was looking at https://pianotone.ca/yamaha-ck61-ck88-review/

Sorry I couldn't offer any recommendations, but for what it's worth, I would be very surprised if you could do much better than this Yamaha unit. The value seems incredibly good to me 👍

              • @wonderboy4: Thanks for your input, you write well :) and I agree with you, I haven't seen anything else even up to $2000 that competes with it. Happy new year!

Damn. Looks like I missed out.

  • OP (or anyone else) off topic but what is THE keyboard to get. Want to get something really high quality that'll see my 7 year old son through the next decade. Thank you.

    • Got my kids a Roland fp30x (Amazon sale plus discounted gc made the price decent enough, and thought at least the resale is good enough if they give up or don't show interest)

      • Cheers. What price should I be shooting for? You mean buy Amazon gift cards to get a % off?

        • Pre Xmas deal of 10% off Amazon gc was a rarity.

I would have got the fp10 Roland but Amazon wouldn't ship it, so spent the extra on the fp30x

    • Second on the FP-30x, been using an FP-30 for the last 6 years or so and has never caused any problems and plays like new. For learning piano, you definitely want weighted keys, and staying with reputable brands (Yamaha, Casio, Roland) is recommended. I've seen FP-30X's go for $550 on marketplace which is a great deal since a first piano shouldn't be more than $1000 imo.

      • It's my personal curse but because I don't know what I'm doing I'd be a little nervous that a $550 marketplace buy might have some small hidden problem and I wouldn't spot it. Agree it's not worth paying near double that but that's the 2 worlds in stuck in. Based on the advice of you guys. Sounds like this FP-30x is a winner.

        • Happy to help and agreed on second hands, you have to be quite cautious :) $769 from here seems like the best price on the internet for price matching/buying, there's $749 here but not 100% sure if it is an Australian seller (edit: Seems to be based in Victoria so all good). Good luck!

@seamonkey Sorry you missed out on this deal! 🙁

In regards to keyboard, it does really depend on what you and your sons goals are. If, like most parents you want him to focus on classical training and graduating one day to a real piano, then the suggestions Jeo and SBOB have provided, seem to be good advice.

But I went a different route, because traditional/classical piano is not the only thing I'm interested in and I also want to play more contemporary music and have the ability to experiment with sounds and creativity. So I opted for an arranger keyboard, that can do a wider variety of things and offer a wider scope of sounds and styles.

The one I chose is the Yamaha PSR-EW425, it has 76 keys and as such is more than enough to cover all music styles including classical pieces too, the keys are touch sensitive, so the harder you press them the more it changes the sound. But the compromise is that they are not weighted like a piano.

Not that that is a bad thing at all, it's just not ideal if "traditional piano" is the most important thing you for you.

But for what it's worth, I'll just say that this particular model Yamaha, should last from beginner to advanced (many years) and that's why I chose it, also because it is very well regarded in it's category and is a great all rounder and very good value.

Price averages at about $650 and you can pick up a Yamaha sustain pedal for about $50.

I will link a couple of really good reviews I saw on YouTube about it, even if you are not that interested, it will like be interesting as a comparison for you, especially as you are new to the world of electric piano/keyboards. Because the guy is really passionate and thorough in his approach, but it's really easy to pick up lots of info too!

Mate. I don't know what to say. This is the reply of 2024 and it's the last day! Thanks to you and everyone. Happy New Year. I'll do a deep dive based on what you have all said. 🙂

        • Oh, no problem! Thanks for the kind words 🙏Very glad to be able to assist 😀

Please feel free to reply here or message me in regards to anything you are wondering about as you continue with your research, I'll do my best to help out.

I'm no expert, but I have been trying to educate myself on the topic recently and maybe I can give some little piece of knowledge that can help you to get your son the best instrument and tools for his musical journey 👍

Happy New Year to you and your family! 🥳

    • Depends on your budget really. Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Kawai, Korg all make decent digital pianos. You want something with 88 weighted keys. Budget about $800-$2000 for something new that's a decent entry-intermediate level.

If it was me I would go for something like a second hand Casio which has the matching stand and pedals. They have relatively lighter keys to press down and so much nicer than having it on a keyboard stand. Would be about $400-600 on marketplace.

Don't buy any digital that's more than about 8 years old, they will probably have poor sound technology so sound more electronic than like a real piano.

  • Cheap. Bought one of these off eBay before Xmas for about $90.
It's ok, but still has 'play' in the vertical arms so the keyboard still can rock side to side a bit.

    • +1

      Any you'd recommend without rocking?

      • +1

I would not automatically assume the one he got off Ebay is the exact same one listed here, there are quite a few that look the same but are not all made by the same company.

Based on what people have reported about this particular one (Yarras Supply) on Amazon and other websites, this one does not suffer from side to side rocking, as @SBOB described.

        • +1

Thank you. I wish I saw this deal before it got OOS'd

        • +1

Looks the same, one I got was rebadged by Donner music
It's not excessive but there's definitely some play in the join between the bottom and top upright sections.
Likely diy hack fixable with some shims or something in the joint, but haven't gotten around to trying yet

          • @SBOB: It really shouldn't wobble though, even just a bit would probably annoy me. Perhaps some rubber wedges, inserted into the gap could do the trick? Maybe even find something the right size at Bunnings (or even cut down the end of a a door stopper to make it fit?) That way at least you could quickly remove them if needing to make any height adjustments.

Maybe you are right and both kinds are out of the same factory but just rebranded? But I really hope not because I'd hate to have to deal with this on mine. I will report back after it arrives and I have assembled it.

I'm glad to hear, that at least you have a way to improve/fix it on yours, that sounds promising 👍

  • damn i missed it

  • +1

I think this is the next best price, $92 delivered from Catch

    • Yes, I think you are correct. This is the price that Harvey Norman usually sells it, which is still $10-$20 cheaper than most others are selling this particular model, so I think it's still a very decent price for what you are getting.

Especially when you consider that other similar quality units from other brands are selling for $50-$100 more, and sometimes even more than this.

So I would still recommend this as a good option to anyone who unfortunately missed the Harvey Norman price (I'm disappointed they ran out so fast!😞) considering what is currently available in this style of keyboard stand.
