  • The price is ok, but the problem is finding a convenient place to dive.

    • great barrier reef :)

This is not a diving mask. Depth limit of 3m! And where are you going to put the regulator?

Call it a full-face snorkeling mask perhaps. Also handy to keep for the next pandemic.

You’re also unable to equalise with these masks, so most people wouldn’t even get to 3m, not to mention the fact that if you’re duck diving at all, you’re relying 100% on whatever valves they have to not just fill up with water - in which case you lose your vision and your airway at once. They shouldn’t be sold.

Snorkelling can be quite strenuous, heck it wore me out up in Cairns in Oct, so some older people having issues isn't necessarily new. Wouldn't be hard to test the theory though. I was actually going to buy these for the trip but they weren't going to arrive in time.

It is banned in Hawaii due to a drowning death.

From Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine journal: Full-face snorkel masks increase the incidence of hypoxaemia and hypercapnia during simulated snorkelling compared to conventional snorkels

As a regular scuba diver, I'd never buy one of these for my nieces/nephews or anyone really for snorkelling.

    • Thank you, this was eye-opening. I own and snorkel with these full face masks, and while I've never had any issues, I think it's time to toss them away and go back to traditional gear.

  • I have had one for many years. I regret it. You need to take deeper breaths to breathe. If you take shallow breaths, it feels suffocating. I like the attempt to simplify the mechanism is innovative, but the use case is sacrificed.
