Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4 (Intel) - Bargain or Not?

My son is moving on to Uni in 2025 and needs a new laptop. After some research he has told me he would like a Lenovo T14s Gen 4 and showed me this link.

Looking at either the currently priced $1,439 or $1,449 models on here which I see are 48% and 49% off respectively however as he only told me about this yesterday and I am very suspect of Lenovo's pricing I am curious if this is truly a bargain price that he should jump on or if this is a fake discount? I don't know the history of how Lenovo works as regards its supposed sale discounts.

Can anybody comment if this is a good price or not?

Also, if you have any comments about these machines, good or bad, also interested to hear opinions?

I used to have a Thinkpad model when I worked for a corporate firm 10+ years ago and I remember them being solid well built laptops and had no issues with them but obviously that was many years ago so things could have changed.

    It's a good price.
    They usually hover around $2k
and often around $1.5k on sale
so anything under that is a good price
best they've been is around $1.2k

alternatively you can look for barely used models on eBay or other websites with 2-3 years of factory warranty left

Those are normal prices, on sale, they might be $200 dollars less with the sale + cashrewards cash back.

T Series Laptops from Lenovo / IBM were the workhorse and staple of the company in the past. They were considered the professional business class laptops.

T14 Standard, T14s - Better materials and thinner, no replaceable ram, X1/X1C - elite, very upper class overpriced ultrabook but very thin and light - that's reserved for companies that pay for those laptops.

For Students, the T14/T14s is very good for university and you should get several years out of it.

The advantage with the present generation of T14 is that you have user replaceable ram and a few other parts; however, the previous generation had soldered memory, which means you're stuck with the amount of ram that came with the device ;however, it could be purchased for a bargain at times.

Please note, ALL T14s have soldered ram and do not have replaceable ram. The last S based T- laptop with replaceable ram was the T480s laptop, of which only 1 stick was user replaceable

Previous, T14s - great price, thinner, but still soldered ram.
