  • Would this be suitable for a child in Y4’s windows BYOD? I’ve been out of the windows game for a long time. Thanks.

Suitable for children and employees alike

Maybe a bit of an overkill but it does have its advantages. Going by older gen X1s, this should be
        * Lighter than many laptops
        * More spill/dust/sand resistant than other regular laptops
        * Touchscreen and convertible, easy to write or draw on

This was a high end business laptop a few years ago. It's cheap now because of its age.

Only if you install Linux on it

    • I would think the Acer Swift Evo Go 14 that was posted a few days earlier would be better…

Better performance, $200 left over to fund little Timmy's lunch, better display, and I think a hair lighter too.

(I'm biased as I bought the Acer)

    • +1

      Excellent, I say.

      Upside

For you the better grade of build quality might survive school longer.

For the kids they will enjoy the touch screen and folding it.

Windows hello security for face logins and a shutter if you don't want to use it.

      Downsides

Cheaper models if you want to save money or don't trust your kid not to break it

1.4kg though, so there are lighter laptops.

  • Can this work with an external GPU for gaming?

    • A TB3/4 dock, yes.

  • Hi everyone. Just wondering if this would be a good laptop for internet browsing, media consumption and excel? Thanks

    • +6

This is a very capable PC even though its processor is three generations old (it's worth noting there really isn't much difference between 12th and 13th generation Intel chips)
I bought a similarly spec'd Lenovo laptop for my mother who uses it for those tasks you've identified and she is thrilled.

      • Any other suggestions of a good 2-in-1 atm?

I personally use a Yoga 7, with OLED screen and AMD processor which is better on battery life which is important for me, but it's more expensive!

        • +3

Yoga 7i 2-in-1 from $1280.85, but IMHO this ThinkPad X1 Yoga is better.

        • Be ware of M.2 2242 when you consider buying yoga7/9 gen 9 series. That means you don't have much choice if you want to upgrade the storage. They are also more expensive than the 2280 counterparts.

      • How about this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/886007. Thanks

        • I saw that but its non touch and not a 2-in-1

  • can you upgrade the SSD? seems a decent deal

  • Can it run games?

    • Starcraft, yes. CS2, not really.

  • bought a yoga 155h 2.8k oled 2 in 1 for $1050 from Lenovo.

    • 2 in 1 looks to be a great deal compared to X1?

      • this x1 is 2 in 1 as well

    • +1

OOS and says available soon is unreliable from what I see.

  • Wish they didn't stop selling the NUC M15.

I'm thinking about a new laptop, but having both charging ports on the left side would be somewhat of a pain.

  • Why does lenovo stupidly limit the RAM slot with soldered chips?! This could've been a great future proof 32gb machine

    • Space and manufacturing simplicity. Soldered means the machine can be a few millimetres slimmer. Doesn't sound much, but people like slimmer machines. Soldered also has a lower failure rate so not only are they cheaper to make, they are cheaper to support.

  • Thanks - Order placed. :)

  • [Upgrade i5-1235U to i7-1270 with $90 extra]

    • This looks like a refurb.

      • Thanks for pointing that out.
The i5 version from Shopping Express is definitely a very good deal.

    • Seems like this is refurb. It says B grade condition.

I am a dedicated ThinkPad enthusiast and exclusively purchase ThinkPad devices, avoiding other brands or series like Lenovo Yoga.

My collection includes the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (with a touchscreen), ThinkPad X1 Yoga, and ThinkPad X13 Yoga. The Yoga models are 2-in-1 devices, featuring touchscreens and stylus pens. In the context of laptops, “Yoga” signifies flexibility, as the hinge allows the device to bend 180 degrees, transforming it into a tablet—mirroring the incredible posture and adaptability associated with yoga in real life.

Active stylus pen does not work well with the X1 Carbon, but the stylus pens included with the X1 Yoga and X13 Yoga function effectively.

    • I bought a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 3 back in 2014 and I fell in love with everything about Lenovo ThinkPad and the keyboard. I'm still using the same laptop but it's dying; I even upgraded the SSD to an 860 Evo, but it's really reaching its end of life. I tell myself that I won't buy any other laptop except for a ThinkPad. Is this a good replacement? Will it have the same keyboard feel? This one comes with a stylus pen? Does this Yoga mean it can fold 360°? I thought that was the case for the Yoga line, but it seems like it's not always the case.

  • That screen wobble :'(

    • Can u elaborate?

  • Is this Australian stock?

  • Can you add a LTE module to connect through Esim?
