Talk about some self-fulfilling whinging.
Big whoosh for you! and so far at least 19 others! Lol
Yeah if 20+ readers don't get what you're talking about, it's not their fault.
dw, here i am happy with my dlna
When Plex was just released I had a high hope for it as an alternative to Kodi however they killed all their official plug ins later. A friend migrated to Jellyfin saying it's resourceful and fully free. Kodi is dying, yes? For Emby I haven't touched yet. Currently I use Plex as a media server/player + sources from Popcorn Time (free, user friendly interface) and Turbox (paid, $3/m is not bad for larger resource, but manual search is a pain for some). Stremio is suck when playing 4k movies on my PC. Maybe there is a way to fix it.
I got a Turkish Apple account, and the annual subscriptions for Plex and Office 360 on iOS are super cheap.
I have a turkish apple account too, how did you do this and what price did you get? When i go to the plex app and click upgrade i see the below options
Lifetime ₹14,900
Yearly ₹3,149
Monthly ₹449
None of them are super cheap? Unless I'm missing something? The yearly fee is around $60 AUD so 2 years of it would end up being roughly the same as this advertised lifetime subscription deal of $127
It's cheaper on the MacOS App store. It's like $10/year on that but regular price on iOS.
edit: I just double checked what mine is and it's 142 lira/year so around $6.50
My bad my brain is fried, I read Indian instead of Turkish. That's crazy the price difference per year between India and Turkey
@ichigo15 is there a lifetime option?
@denserham: Nah, it's just monthly for 109 or annual for 142 on the Mac app store.
@denserham: Bummer.. If you VPN to turkey and use code relax24 on the website it comes to ₹2472try or about $114 AUD. saving you about $10 from this deal.
iPhone Plex app with turkish account/no VPN gives me ₹3899 or about $178aud.
@Desiguy: Tbh I just copied from the guy above me hoping he has it right and I didn't have to check. But yeah I was talking Turkish but the math is still good.
I'm on my mac and can't see Plex come up in the app store, can you give me a pointer?
Or are you using another app on the macos store like Plexamp?
@sleeperc3ll: Hmm, seems like it's the ipadOS version? I just double checked and I guess I have access to it since I have an M1 Mac. My bad.
@ichigo15: I have an iPad and and M2 Mac. But even with the iPad it's still showing the Turkish prices of
Lifetime - 3,899,00
Yearly - 819,99
Monthly - 105,00
Really confused how your prices would be showing different to my prices if we're both using a Turkish Apple account. You have any idea?
Closed-captioning or alternate audio channels are not currently supported for Live TV.
sigh,… how many more versions before this?
Warning if you use starlink, it’s near impossible to freely remote to your plex server from outside your network.
CGNAT is the worst!
I think you can use a cloudflare tunnel these days to bypass CGNAT limitations and host plex. It used to be against TOS to stream media through it, but it appears that limitation has been removed.
There is also tailscale to create your own VPN, set it up on an always on device like a nas, raspberry pi or home assistant and enable exit node
Yep, this is the way for users stuck behind CGNAT. A client of mine has only 4G access to the internet and needed an easy way of getting back to their Home Assistant/Frigate instances.
Does every account on your server need life time access? Sorry first time setting up.
no - one 'owner' server account can have many users
Don't apologise for asking, I just set one up on a custom NAS build with Truenas Scale OS
Tbh, not a single user needs it.
I'm a heavy plex user who hosts locally and after going through all the benefits again and again and again, it just wasn't worth it.
Perks worth mentioning;
-Hardware acceleration instead of software(uses GPU instead of CPU, faster but with less quality)
-Skip intro and credits
-Make users an account within your account(as opposed to inviting them)
-Simplified webhooks
-Make users an account within your account(as opposed to inviting them)
I've got multi-user with my Plex server and didn't need to buy a Plex Pass. "Managed Users" is available for free and except for being able to alter configuration settings, they seem to be treated the same as the main account.
Here's the current list of paid for features:
Plex Pass
The Plex Pass subscription includes free activation/unlocking of our mobile apps as well as other features and benefits:
- Activate/unlock our Android and iOS mobile apps simply by signing into your Plex account within the app.
- Access to Plex Dash (a Plex Labs app)
- Skip Credits in your personal library.
- Skip intros in TV episodes in your personal library.
- Hardware-accelerated streaming/transcoding.
- DVR Recording: Record over-the-air broadcasts available in your area, using a compatible tuner and digital antenna.
- Stream trailers and extras (interviews, behind the scenes, etc.) for content in your movie or TV show libraries.
- Add lyrics from LyricFind to your music libraries to follow along whenever you want.
- Invite full Plex accounts (not just managed users) of family members to be a part of your Plex Home, allowing easy switching between accounts, and restrict what content you share from your server.
- Premium music features in Plexamp, like Sonic Analysis, Sonic Sage, Guest DJ, Track & Album Radio, Artist & Album Mix Builders, and more.
- HDR to SDR tone mapping when transcoding, to help preserve colors for playback.
- Get early preview access to new apps and features.
- And even more!
The two main standouts, IMO, are hardware acceleration and DVR recording (if you have a TV tuner USB/card). Also free apps. I think I paid US$5 for the Roku app and similar for the iOS version.
I'm still holding out for a 50% off lifetime. They had it before but it never seemed worth it for me at the time. Now I've got a NAS capable of hardware acceleration I might get it.
Have been using Plex casually since 2022. Love the service. Dumb question: what would be the benefit of getting this pass?
Main benefit is for hardware transcoding, takes the load off the CPU so you can support a lot of remote streams on different clients/hardware.
Also the apps are free with plexpass
Supporting the company. Longtime Plex pass user here. The best.
Skipping credits, TV intros etc are useful. Main use seems to be GPU transcoding.
I run an 18 core CPU on my server to always have plenty of overhead for transcoding.
You can also DIY the intro/credits by inserting chapter markers. I already do that for ad skipping.
If you asking this question, you dont need it
You get HDR playback too on your movies
Plex free has HDR - Pass has HDR to SDR Tone Mapping
Oh.. thanks for clearing that up, saved me $130
I love you Plex!! :D
The price is worth is for 24/7 Maury/Steve/Jerry/COPS/all the good stuff
Are those not available 24/7 still without buying this or is it pay walled now? Love watching cops on the background
Thanks.
I was happy with the last time I purchased this so i bought another to have as a spare.
Apart from the above mentioned features, for me Plexamp is another huge reason to purchase.
In my opinion this is the best music app available at the moment, bit of a learning curve as there are so many options within the UI but once I learnt it it’s killer!
Only complaint, wish there was a Plexamp plugin for Waze.
They killed the plex photo silently before, weren't they? Geo deal is the rate that I will pay otherwise I'm happy with the free version.
I sub to plex just to view my own content on my phone in an easy to use manner no matter where I am, I wish there was a more user friendly approach that was free
Can you transcode to a smaller size to conserve the phone storage? Someone was mad at it being unfunctional.
