Bought 2 Computers over Black Friday - Retrospective

My partner was having issues with the old computer, so with Black Friday coming around thought I'd get them a new computer.

Ended up going with Nebula Nexus elite, as I didn't want to be responsible for trying to build and messing up the computer. Jumping on the Black Friday deals, I ordered from nebula on 15th Nov. 10 working days came and went, and I was told it will take a few extra days so waited patiently. Messaged again 20 working days after and was told they're filling msi orders first.
The computer ended up being delivered 25 working days later on 20 Dec.

The positives:
+ works well, functional, stable. A lot better than old computer
+ cable management neat
+ was pretty simple to install old ssd/hard drives
+ quick responses

Negatives:
- Very slow, 25 working days to receive computer
- This is not an issue with Nebula per se, but the couriers (team global express) left the computer right beside the front door for half a day as no one was home. Thankfully computer was still there when we got back from work.
- Missed out on prezee gift card; had a lot going on on the weekend before Christmas and was advised the cutoff date was Jan 14. Turns out it ended on Dec 23 while we received computer on 20th; only had 3 days to claim as it needed a photograph.
- CPU fan really loud at high CPU loads. Stock cooler really isn't enough

Black Friday came around and I decided I wanted a new PC too. Figured if I break it its on me, so decided to build my own. Specs were similar/slightly better; 7500F, 7800xt, gigabyte x ax v2.
Ordered everything on 30th Nov, mainly through scorptec and umart. 7500F from aliexpress (fully prepared to get scammed)
CPU came first, scorptec probably forgot about my order but messaged them and sent out next day. Motherboard initially from amazon but they never filled order, so after waiting 3 weeks cancelled and got one from scorptec.
Built on the 19th Dec, 2.5 weeks from first order (14 working days). Seems to run well, with temps not going over over 65 running the same programs, most likely because of the aftermarket cooler (peerless assassin)

In hindsight BF sales weren't really that great. Would've easier and quicker to pick up instead of having it delivered as I didn't account for shipping insurance.
Financially speaking missing out on the gift card isn't a big deal, but it was meant to be used to upgrade a monitor to 1440p but guess that's not happening for a while
Whoever managed to get builds rushed through and redeemed their steam cards, hope you enjoy it enough for the 2 of us as well

TLDR: 25 working days to get computer from Nebula Black Friday sales. In retrospect I would've just built 2 computers myself instead.

What about costs? You've mentioned 0 prices of anything.

Why would prices matter on Australia’s foremost bargain sharing community?

    • +6

It cost me a lot of time to read.

Ended up ~1.5k for the prebuilt, around 1.7 for the self built one

  • Cool story. I just opened a thread by a new user that looked like a complete waste of time to read, so I just skimmed over it and went straight to the comments.

      Me too.
Even the TLDR was too long for the topic.

I bought a TechFast PC because it was $500 less than building it myself. I wasn't in a rush, and knew it was going to take weeks. Happy to save some $.

Separately, I needed to replace my media server. I built that myself as I wanted specific components, and wanted it built yesterday.

Both options are viable and have their pros and cons.

  • TLDR: https://tldrx.me/https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/886544

The article discusses a user's experience purchasing a new computer for their partner during Black Friday sales from Nebula Nexus Elite. They ordered on November 15 but faced significant delays, ultimately receiving the computer 25 working days later on December 20. The positives noted include its functional performance, neat cable management, and easy installation of old components. However, the user criticized the lengthy delivery time, courier issues, the loud CPU fan, and the missed opportunity for a gift card due to timing. Additionally, the author chose to build their own computer with similar specs after deciding that it would be simpler, completing the build in 2.5 weeks. They reflect that the Black Friday sales weren't as valuable as expected and express regret over missed financial opportunities for upgrades. In summary, the overall takeaway is the frustration with long delivery times and delivery service, alongside a realization that building their own computer could have been the better choice.

Still much too long. I tried to use tldrx.me recursively and think I broke it. ChatGPT says:

"A user bought a Nebula Nexus Elite PC during Black Friday, facing a 25-day delay, courier issues, and a noisy fan. While praising performance and cable management, they regretted not building a similar PC themselves in just 2.5 weeks, finding Black Friday deals underwhelming."

  • I’m trying to work out if this is some sort of sock puppet or reverse sock puppet?

Such a weird post from a brand new member that really has nothing to do with bargains.

    P. S. OP might also be a gay fish but not confirmed.

    • Long time lurker; ozbargain and whirlpool are honestly very useful to get an Aus perspective on many things. Just never had the need or urge to post until now really

Merely putting in my opinion about getting a couple PCs, one of which is from one of the main prebuilt companies I've seen posted here and recommended a fair bit generally.

Perhaps I was a bit salty still on the day I posted, and the pc works well. Would've preferred if things went a bit differently but that's life I guess

    Yesterday I yawned.

  • So what was the question again ???

    • Forums are for discussions, is it not? I see people posting reviews on here occasionally as well

I've seen many people recommend getting prebuilts from ozbargains when deals are up as they're cheaper than buying components yourself.
Which is true, and the computer works well, just a bit disappointed at things not related to the physical PC. I'm just sorta glad I didn't get 2 prebuilts
