I'm not a fan of these generic ones. Often under capacity. Better off buying anko ones from Kmart (4 for $5) or Repco (6 for $6).

Car remotes can be very finicky on battery voltage.
I've lerant to not use this sort of battery.
But these could be OK for non-critical usage.

      • Exactly this, which battery do you use?

        • +2

I now buy from places with a high turnover and probably have genuine branded batteries. e.g JB Hifi, Bunnings.
For whatever reason, I favour Energizers, having had leaky Duracells in AA and AAA.
I still use cheap arse ones for things like non-critical remotes and motherboard backup batteries.

@Weshouldgetsushi: Use el cheapo for motherboards??

            • @cobknob: The worst that will happen to me is my bios settings go back to default. I don't really care and it hasn't happened to me ever.

              • @Weshouldgetsushi: What about leaks?

I remem that too with one of my previous systems - bios settings resets on boot haha

              • @Weshouldgetsushi: What about leakage from the battery onto the mb?

      • Does Energizer cut the mustard? Had a problem way back and only tested new Energizer branded one. Just thought the remote was done! Never considered trying other brands.

      • Strange i used the clearance cr2032 from supercheap auto a while back and it was fine for car remote

        I thinl a 10 pk was only 1 or 2 dollars

    • +3

Ive bought this brand before and they certainly come charged around 3.3v. Alternatively, alkaline ones drop off way too quick for me.

(Used in a smart key for cars as a fleet manager so forever changing them when staff sit on the button for 8hrs a day)

These Maxells don't cost much more at $12.50 for 10 delivered which is the same as Anko. Expiry 2034.

I couldn't find the 6 for $6 Repco one, only this 6 for $24 GearUp one.

      • +7

I can vouch for the Maxell CR2032H with BLE hygrothermometers (specifically Xiaomi with CFW) - they start with higher than usual voltage (3.2V), drop to normal (2.92-2.98V) range in a few days then practically stays there for months (mine is 6 months in and still going strong) to come.

The seller is also solid when buying from either their own website or eBay store.

        • Thanks bought two sets for my airtags

          • @skywalkerstudios: How many AirTags have you got!?

My AirTags can run for over a year on one of these… unless it's exposed to regular thermoshocks (like the one on my car dash) where the battery life drops to around 6-9 months.

        • Do they make cr1620?

      • +1

For me the one you linked shows as $6

        • +1

Interesting, if I set a store it does drop to $6. If no store is set (in incognito for example), it's $24.

          • @eug: Yep, $6 for 6.

The ones in this deal aren't 'sealed' to prevent kids from opening them up and swallowing the batteries by mistake. A small minor issue for some of us, might be an issue for others with kids.

      • Thanks mate. Ordered.

    • Best way to be sure is to test them.

Weight is usually a good indication. Otherwise you can run a 3k ohm resister across the terminals (held in place with a wood peg), and measure the voltage at day 1,5 &10 (After 10 days it should have provided the full 200mah). Voltage starts at ~3.3v and is finished once it gets below 2.5v

In my experience duracell is good for 200mah, while ebay shit was variable between 75mah and 125mah. The ebay shit is still worth it if you can get them cheap enough, but it hasn't been as easy since they made regulations with shipping batteries. It used to be that you could get 100 for $3

  • +2

Don't be fooled by brand name ones either. I've been bitten paying a premium for Duracells or Panasonic and they've been just as terrible if not worse than generics. eBay is notorious for fakes or poor quality batteries. In the end I bought AA and AAA battery holders and wired them onto my ZigBee sensors. Looks ugly but so much cheaper and less frustrating

    • +2

Don't let fakes discourage you. If you buy a genuine branded cell they will last longer than fakes or poor quality cells.

      • So, what's the verdict on these LiCBs then, folks - good or bad? ;)

        • +7

Personally I would pay the extra 45c per cell for Maxells with a 10-year shelf life.

          • @eug: These are good, but shipping kills it.

            • +2

@huu: Shipping is free if you select Regular shipping.

              • @eug: Thank!! Bought 1 .. How can I not see that!!

        • I've bought these and like others said I've had issue with then not lasting in car keys etc.. just pay the extra for better ones

        • Unknown brand - buy at your own risk.
Amazon will generally help out if you advise them early enough.

    • I struggled to find CR2032’s that work well with AirTags. Many brands have bitter coatings which are incompatible with AirTags.

Other cheaper ones have a voltage drop which triggers the low battery warning after a short time.

In my experience the ones that seem to be best is the Panasonic ones, which don’t have the bitter coatings and have a good voltage.

      • I struggled too. Genuine Duracell all good.

    • AAA battery holders and wired them onto my ZigBee sensors

Ha! Glad to hear I'm not the only one to do that :-) Ikea motion sensors?

      • All kinds of different sensors. Mostly door sensors. I wish I had discovered cheap Tuya sensors that use AAA batteries earlier. They're a fraction of the cost to buy and to run. I have a few and they're really reliable

        • I installed my Xiaomi door sensors in Nov/Dec 2017. Surprisingly they're still running on their original CR1632 cells till today on my main entry doors. I'm really impressed.

          • @eug: Yeah I think it's because they don't follow ZigBee protocols and lock onto a single router/repeater. No power wasted trying to mesh to another. I had similar long battery life experiences but not 7yrs

    Buy cheap, buy twice.

    • +1

Buy cheap, isn’t that the Ozbargain mantra that you are mocking

      • +1

        Bargain != cheap.

    • Buy expensive, buy twice

Cinema popcorn is not made with butter

  • These are about the normal price well at least last time I bought them they were

  • Thanks for posting the deal and thus enabling discussion.

    • +3

No worries, i can see the argument for sure. Shelf life appears to be a good decider in the quality

  • Thanks for sharing OP.

Found a cheaper 20 pack for $12.99 but decided on the ones you posted so they don't lose charge before I get a chance to use.

When I went to order through above link they had gone back up to $9.99. Crazy how a short amount of time makes a difference.

  • Guys, I have pretty much had terrible luck with all these kinds of batteries i have bought off amazon. Even some of the "brand" name ones that are cheap end up being fakes. Reason being, i put them into keyfobs or other devices (usually a bit finicky to install) and then they last a few months instead of the usual few years that the proper brand name batteries last. And the issue is its always after the warranty period anyway of 1 month or whatever it is with amazon .,

  • 3 yr shelf life

That is poor for a lot of uses, like motherboards.
