A129 plus duo is an all time value for money dashcam, there's tons of reviews on youtube for your reference.

and for viofo p800 webcam, $37 dollars delivered is a very good price also IMO.

🌟highly recommmended to get their hk4 hardwire kit and viofo endurance memory cardfor a piece of mind. 🌟

These are my go to cams.
Have 129s and 229s in mine and families cars.
Would recommend the hardwire kit if you are handy enough to install it.

  • +2

I can vouch for the a229 pro. Very good cam, great picture quality.

    • Any issues with it locking up on hot days when used in 4k resolution?

      • Not yet. I have read that it can happen but so far, so good.

      • No issue yet but I would recommend 2k for summer and 4k for winter to prolong its life, as it gets really hot at 4k.

  • Any good dashcams / deals with interior cabin cameras?

I do rideshare driving, have run into aggressive pax in rare occasions and hoping a camera could be a little deterrent.

    • +1

      Blackvue lastet IR dash cam

  • Thanks man, was eyeing this the a229 pro for a while.
Don't forget to grab a wiring kit while you're at it

    • From the same site? Can I get it from any other store, like jaycar or sca perhaps?

      • Yeah same site, just easier. The saving for the dashcam alone was enough compared to [Amazon] (https://amzn.asia/d/bjX1fhx) sale, made it worthwhile just to get it aswell.

Now just need a deal on 256gb max endurance SD card

  • Good deal on the A229 Pro. I've got this dual camera setup hardwired in my 2024 Santa Fe and am pretty happy with it after previously owning Blackvue dashcams.

I find that the motion detection can be a bit sensitive (ie it thinks I've had an accident when driving over a speed bump in our apartment carpark and 'protects' the video), and the UI can be a bit messy on the device (the buttons/labels don't seem intuitive to me) but these are minor since you don't tend to interact very often with the device (and the iPhone app is easier to use) and the video footage is excellent.

Thanks for the review, how you liking the Sante Fe (sorry off topic) mine coming in a few days, ordered the A229 Pro just for it.
      How much was your install?

      • +1

I am pretty happy with it. The car looks and feels far more premium than the badge or price (even if more than precious model Santa Fe) would lead you to believe. That being said I do find random driver ergonomic issues with the touch screen/interface which some of the more mature automakers eg Mercedes or even Tesla don’t have in terms of UI design, inconsistent button placement on touchscreen, inconsistent steering wheel controls vs touch screen, etc but with time I’ll get used to it.

Other than that, and random CarPlay issues whenever I’m in a car park, I really am enjoying the car. Great fuel economy for the size of vehicle, not fast but spiritedly enough in city driving, feels luxurious inside wherever you touch, giant square boot and just generally easy to live with.

The VIOFO dashcam is good. I got it installed by Bendas. He gave me same pricing as my last few cars I did with him so best you get a quote direct but I think the going rate nowadays is around the $300 mark.

        • Thank you sir for your review, much appreciated for the info, I wasn't sure who would be reputable and has experience with the new Santa Fe. Thanks for the reassurance, I'll hit them up.

  • Recently bought this model. Very impressed! The video quality is outstanding Highly recommend!

    • +1

Which one? Or did you buy all 3?

      • A229 Pro 2CH!

        • Thanks for confirming, good to know as I am looking at the a229. Just need to confirm fuse sizes for hardwire kit.

  • +2

Previously had a A129 Duo that would have the rear camera adhesive fail multiple times in the summer. Has this been fixed in later models and updates?

    • just buy double sides tape and re glue it

      • Which I did. Bought some gorilla double sided tape to stick it back on but now the adhesive is so strong it's proving hard to remove.

        • +1

Damned if you do, damned if you dont

    • I don't think it is fixed. I bought mine about 3 months ago and my front one fell off, used their generic one (had couple of them included in the package) again, hoping it may last bit longer. Otherwise I might do the same as what you did in the below comment

    • My A229 Plus fell off in the heat yesterday. Just bought some mounting tape and put it back on

  • Anyone have a fix for the 3M VHB stickies always falling off ? I keep having to buy new ones

    • Gorilla tape worked for me.

    • +1

Did you clean the windscreen with something like Isocol rubbing alcohol? I've found that it helps alot if you clean it properly beforehand.

    • Static film then VHB tape

  • Which hardwire kit do you buy for the A229 Pro? There’s so many on the site.

    • +3

I got the HK4 wiring kit with the A229 pro

      • Same, I also got HK4 for my 2024 Santa Fe and the A229 Pro. I figured anything else required would be able to be provided by a professional dashcam installer.

    • You'll also need fuse taps. Most likely micro size depending on your vehicle.

  • +1

This is comparable to Blackvue for a slice of the price yeh?

    • Yes, for the price this is a true value for money dashcam. Lot of YouTube comparison videos as well if needed to check before buying 👍

  • A couple of questions, as I am a newbie to dash cams.

    1. Does the A229 Pro record to a cloud service? In fact, do any viofo dahs cams?

    2. I have a hybrid car and want it to record when parked. Does anyone have a recommendation for a battery device or any advice on how to hard-wire this?

    • +1

Don’t think they record to cloud. None of my car is hybrid so not sure, but I think it should be much easier than ICE cars as they have battery to last?

      1. None of Viofo dashcams have cloud service. Also, when comparing it with Blackvue, Blackvue cloud service is subscription based, so its additional cost.

      2. I am looking to get this answer as well for RAV4. From what I have gathered, is that people install a second battery for parking mode as well. Speak to any installer, and they may be able to confirm how to hook the parking mode with external battery pack.

      • External battery pack something like powercell or cellink neo can either be powered via cig socket or hardwire fuse tap to box. When ignition is on the battery is charging and dashcam is on. When ignition is off the battery supplies the power to the dashcam independently until power depletes. Depending on specs of battery it can take say 45 mins of driving to charge from dead to 100% full which can supply up to 20hrs of parking mode (i have DR970X Plus 2CH). Parking mode is activated if your dashcam has the feature and recognises when car is stationary through accelerometre, about 5 minutes i think.

    • Not sure if this is the answer you are after, but the hardwire kit has a battery drain protection feature. It cuts out once the battery gets to a pre-configured amount. Not sure how long it works whilst parked before it gets to this level.

      1. It has a function that will connect to wifi so you can transfer files to your computer. I've never used it and I'm not sure if it can be automated.

      2. The 12v electrical system on a hybrid car is no different to any other car. Just hardwire it as per the instructions and you'll get parking mode. The standard battery will run it for days before cutting out. You can turn the camera off manually when parked at home to save the battery power for when you're out.

      1. I just recently hardwired my own car. The hardwire kit will cut off power to the dashcam when it hits a certain voltage threshold to ensure you don’t kill your car battery (ie. so your car can still start).

Most people do not have a secondary battery for parking mode - they’ll crimp fuse taps to the hardwire kit that will tap into your fuse box (1 fuse tap cable ACC that tells your car when your car is running, another cable BATT where power is provided all the time)

    • Thanks everyone. Which hard-wire kit should I get then? Could someone please point it out from the website, that would be great. Very appreciative of everyone's help.

  • Wanting to upgrade my blackvue

Is the VIOFO better than blackvue DR 750s-2ch ??
I've got he PMP switch with the BlackVue, so I can switch it off when it's in my garage

  • $384.99 is the same price they had for their Black Friday sale only a few weeks ago. I bought one for myself for Christmas. Also got the A329 2 channel for $517.99.
But has the sale ended already because I can only see the 2 ch A229 Pro for $549.99 now or do you need to put a code in?

  • I bought the A129 many years ago. I thought this was the ozbargain fav dashcam.

I have zero issues but at the time I bought a third party wire.

Thinking to buy another a129… Is this New HK4kit working compatible with the A129? Easier to o get from one wbesite

    • +1

My a129 duo died recently. Not really sure why. Possibly to do with the heat or I just got a bad one.

Got this hardwired with hk3 kit. And plan to get one of these to replace it. Most likely a229 pro.

It should be a simple pull off and then replace with the new one. Unless someone tells me otherwise.

  • Curious as to if these dashcams have a capacitor to cater for Australian heat

    • I’ve never had an issue with mine, 229 has been running for 5 years since bought the car, always parked out in sun.
Mine is hardwired so never thought about the capacitor part.

    • A129 to my knowledge has a capacitor

  • Would recommend comparing prices to their official AliExpress store. The dash cam I bought ended up being about $50 cheaper and it came within a week

    • Would also recommend when you considering the local warranty when comparing the hassle when dealing with AliExpress. Secondly , I prefer local business with gst invoice for tax purposes.

      • Viofo AU doesn't provide invoices and GST is not shown anywhere, at least that's my experience across multiple purchases.

Answer to the common question people have about hardwiring - any hardware kit will work. Essentially it's just a constant power source with a voltage cutoff.

All hardware kits have 3 connections - ground, constant power and switched power. These are how the dashcam knows when to turn on and off.

Cam will turn on and off with the key. A constant power source will remain with the key off to allow the cam to switch on for parking mode in whatever way the cam itself wants - timer, shock sensor etc.

Depending on the model of your vehicle and how you want to implement you can either run cable through the firewall to the battery, buy a hardware kit that taps the OBD2 port, or tap the internal fusebox.

When tapping the internal fuse box it is best to tap circuits that are fairly benign - don't tap into anything important such as ABS, SRS, ECU, indicators or lights.

My personal candidates for circuits to tap when doing this work are cigarette/12 socket for switched power and the headliner light or stereo power for constant power - both of these are usually constant power in most cars as the overhead lights usually come on with door opening without the key, and oem stereos usually have constant power for the clock and alarm (aftermarket YMMV).

Don't run a dashcam off of a conventional power bank unless you want to burn your car to the ground. A specialist product like cellmate is likely fine, but not your phone charging power bank.

My personal setup is using the provided 12v connector of a dashcam and plugging that into a Blackmagic pro that I've hardwired. It gives me a switch box with a hard on/off switch and dip switches to select one of several cutoff voltages that I've mounted in the glove box.

Most hardwire kits only have a single cutoff voltage but some are more complex than others. The blackmagic just gives a little more flexibility and the ability to cut power completely such as when parking at home for days at a time, without having to unplug anything.
