Seems to be a decent price compared to local stock. Tbh was looking for a quest 3 for a good price when stumbled across this.

Any thoughts which one to chose?

Apologies for the wrong link initially

Price makes sense given it's not as good as the Quest 3, but the discount isn't deep enough.

I upgraded from quest 2 to quest 3 expecting to regret but absolutely no regrets. It’s 100% worth the hype imo. Native quest experience so good I don’t even bother doing virtual desktop

I would go with the one which has the most exclusives. Which is Quest.

  • I think it's this one… https://amzn.asia/d/3Q3Auts

There is a comparison tool here

Before you buy you might want to explore the Pico VR store to see if the games you want to buy are actually on there.
    https://store-global.picoxr.com/global/tab/2/6

Their selection of games seems to be slightly narrower than Meta, and they obviously do not stock any of the Meta exclusive games. There are some good titles you could be missing out on, like Asgards Wrath I and II, Resident Evil VR, Robo Recall, Ass. Creed etc.

This $94 referral holiday promo should also be factored into the pricing, while the Q3 is more expensive at $799, you get $94 back in the form of store credits after activation, making the effective price $705.

And from a returns / warranty perspective Meta will also have better service. I was able to get a replacement for my Oculus Rift controller from Facebook after the joystick started to drift after 2 years of usage. They really need to start using hall effect joysticks for VR controllers…

    • Spec sheet comparison doesn't really sell the difference in lens implementation, which is where Quest 3 streaks ahead alongside refresh rate and software.

It's arguably a non-contest despite the extra RAM on the Pico.

If the OP is discerning on price look at the Quest 3S as an alternative, and if they're discerning on the visual experience for VR, get fitted for a Bigscreen Beyond.

      • Was about to do a jfc over the price and the PC specs required to push that resolution smoothly, but then I remembered all the VR platforms were a long way north of $1k when they launched.

I really need someone to get the Quest 3 specs into a Bigscreen Beyond-sized package at mid-tier smartphone pricing.

        • I think you're almost asking too much of economics and physics with silicon, let alone an R&D budget.

Meta's solution for the next 10 years will likely involve an external computing device and wireless protocols.

Given their metaverse goals and the cloud compute power that will be required to maintain all these elements and systems in persistent - often shared - environments, a computing puck in someone's pocket is a relatively straightforward element in the latency challenges for delivering a smooth and graphically rich user experience.

For the average consumer it's going to be less about VR and pucks as it is smart glasses and phone/watch sync.

@jasswolf: tbph I haven't really looked into the Bigscreen Beyond much past a cursory glance, nor have I spent much time learning about the Quest beyond its spec sheet.

While perhaps not feasible at this point in time, I like the idea of offloading all the software, hardware & cloud processing channel to the smartphone in nearly everyone's pocket.
Early adopters would be perfectly happy to put up with a wired connection in the sort term.

That said, I'm 100% certain I don't want Facebook to be the company that figures all this out first, my obvious proximity to open barn doors & the sound of departing horses notwithstanding.

            • @BinaryPirate: The puck is how they guarantee the return on investment in the early stages, then they get to work on phone integration with a war chest while smart glasses makers stumble around with basic interfaces.

              • @jasswolf: Yeah, I know. With any luck some enterprising entrepreneur is able to develop a cost-effective solution inline with what I'd like to see rather than Facebook/meta [continue] being the dominant player.

I probably wouldn't mind buying a puck-based system from Facebook/meta if I could have some confidence the corporation wouldn't be using me to harvest data.

  • Would pick the quest out of the 2.

I've got a standard Pico 4. Really good headset if you plan on doing PCVR and not using it as a standalone.

  • I'm also looking at the Quest 3. For me it's about games but also about resale value… Quests tend to hold their value and are easier to sell on Marketplace because they're a known brand.

  • More games are built for Quest, there's a few other brands out there, but Quest has the backing to take it further forward, and they still run at a sizeable loss (building momentum in VR). I love it honestly - great to support the others, but safer to go Quest 3.

(also Metas referral program is unmatched, anyone thinking should at minimum use the OzBargain referral system before setting up a new Quest unit)

  • side graded from normal pico4 to quest3 here. (originally from quest2 to pico4), and had been using the pico4 for 1 year. And i know this post is the ultra. So if the ultra still use the same display, then here is my 2 cents.

1 big thing is the display, screen door effect. I am not very sensitive to this effect to begin with, upgrading from q2 to p4 was massive just the lens alone, and that might shadow the screen door effect on the p4 initially. coz i only realized it after first time i put on quest3. Especially after 1 month use of quest3, I switched back to pico4 to see the difference. It is massive difference for me, I can not stop noticing the effect.

Also feels like quest 3 has better dynamic range, the dark area is darker (coz i sleep with vr sometimes, so how bright the black is, i can really tell the difference) , i am not sure about peak bright difference tho, i always use them with brightness way down.

another thing should still be relevant. The handling of controllers. As soon as i pickup the pico4 controller back, the grip, the trigger just feels horrible. tbh i never liked them since day one from quest2, quest2 do have solid controller build feelings and quest3 once again proves it. So if pico4ultra still using the same build, yeah. But pico4 controller do have extra buttons on them, both hand has home button.

ask away if i can help
